Book Synopsis Applied and Industrial Mathematics, Venice—2, 1998 by : Renato Spigler
Download or read book Applied and Industrial Mathematics, Venice—2, 1998 written by Renato Spigler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, I have collected several papers which were presented at the international conference called "Venice-2/Symposium on Applied and In dustrial Mathematics". Such a conference was held in Venice, Italy, between June 11 and 16,1998, and was intended as the follow-up of the very successful similar event (called "Venice-1/Symposium on Applied and Industrial Math ematics"), that was also organized in Venice in October 1989. The Venice-1 conference ended up with a Kluwer volume like this one. I am grateful to Kluwer for having accepted to publish the present volume, the aim of which is to update somehow the state-of-the-art in the field of Ap plied Mathematics as well as in that of the nowadays rather more developed area of Industrial Mathematics. The most of the invited (key-note) speakers contributed to this volume with a paper related to their talk. There are, in addition·, a few significant contributed papers, selected on the basis of their quality and relevance to the present-time research activities. The topics considered in the conference range from rather general sub jects in applied and numerical analysis, to more specialized subjects such as polymers and disordered media, granular flow, semiconductor mathematics, superconductors, elasticity, tomography and other inverse problems, financial modeling, photographic sciences, etc. The papers collected in this volume provide a selection of them. It is clear from the previous list that some attention has been paid to relatively new and emerging fields.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to Differential Equations by : Anil G Ladde
Download or read book An Introduction to Differential Equations written by Anil G Ladde and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1: Deterministic Modeling, Methods and Analysis For more than half a century, stochastic calculus and stochastic differential equations have played a major role in analyzing the dynamic phenomena in the biological and physical sciences, as well as engineering. The advancement of knowledge in stochastic differential equations is spreading rapidly across the graduate and postgraduate programs in universities around the globe. This will be the first available book that can be used in any undergraduate/graduate stochastic modeling/applied mathematics courses and that can be used by an interdisciplinary researcher with a minimal academic background. An Introduction to Differential Equations: Volume 2 is a stochastic version of Volume 1 (“An Introduction to Differential Equations: Deterministic Modeling, Methods and Analysis”). Both books have a similar design, but naturally, differ by calculi. Again, both volumes use an innovative style in the presentation of the topics, methods and concepts with adequate preparation in deterministic Calculus. Errata Errata (32 KB)

Book Synopsis Optimal Control Problems Arising in Mathematical Economics by : Alexander J. Zaslavski
Download or read book Optimal Control Problems Arising in Mathematical Economics written by Alexander J. Zaslavski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-28 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the study of two large classes of discrete-time optimal control problems arising in mathematical economics. Nonautonomous optimal control problems of the first class are determined by a sequence of objective functions and sequence of constraint maps. They correspond to a general model of economic growth. We are interested in turnpike properties of approximate solutions and in the stability of the turnpike phenomenon under small perturbations of objective functions and constraint maps. The second class of autonomous optimal control problems corresponds to another general class of models of economic dynamics which includes the Robinson–Solow–Srinivasan model as a particular case. In Chap. 1 we discuss turnpike properties for a large class of discrete-time optimal control problems studied in the literature and for the Robinson–Solow–Srinivasan model. In Chap. 2 we introduce the first class of optimal control problems and study its turnpike property. This class of problems is also discussed in Chaps. 3–6. In Chap. 3 we study the stability of the turnpike phenomenon under small perturbations of the objective functions. Analogous results for problems with discounting are considered in Chap. 4. In Chap. 5 we study the stability of the turnpike phenomenon under small perturbations of the objective functions and the constraint maps. Analogous results for problems with discounting are established in Chap. 6. The results of Chaps. 5 and 6 are new. The second class of problems is studied in Chaps. 7–9. In Chap. 7 we study the turnpike properties. The stability of the turnpike phenomenon under small perturbations of the objective functions is established in Chap. 8. In Chap. 9 we establish the stability of the turnpike phenomenon under small perturbations of the objective functions and the constraint maps. The results of Chaps. 8 and 9 are new. In Chap. 10 we study optimal control problems related to a model of knowledge-based endogenous economic growth and show the existence of trajectories of unbounded economic growth and provide estimates for the growth rate.

Book Synopsis Second Order PDE's in Finite and Infinite Dimension by : Sandra Cerrai
Download or read book Second Order PDE's in Finite and Infinite Dimension written by Sandra Cerrai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this monograph is the study of a class of stochastic differential systems having unbounded coefficients, both in finite and in infinite dimension. We focus our attention on the regularity properties of the solutions and hence on the smoothing effect of the corresponding transition semigroups in the space of bounded and uniformly continuous functions. As an application of these results, we study the associated Kolmogorov equations, the large-time behaviour of the solutions and some stochastic optimal control problems together with the corresponding Hamilton- Jacobi-Bellman equations. In the literature there exists a large number of works (mostly in finite dimen sion) dealing with these arguments in the case of bounded Lipschitz-continuous coefficients and some of them concern the case of coefficients having linear growth. Few papers concern the case of non-Lipschitz coefficients, but they are mainly re lated to the study of the existence and the uniqueness of solutions for the stochastic system. Actually, the study of any further properties of those systems, such as their regularizing properties or their ergodicity, seems not to be developed widely enough. With these notes we try to cover this gap.

Book Synopsis Semi-Infinite Fractional Programming by : Ram U. Verma
Download or read book Semi-Infinite Fractional Programming written by Ram U. Verma and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a smooth and unified transitional framework from generalised fractional programming, with a finite number of variables and a finite number of constraints, to semi-infinite fractional programming, where a number of variables are finite but with infinite constraints. It focuses on empowering graduate students, faculty and other research enthusiasts to pursue more accelerated research advances with significant interdisciplinary applications without borders. In terms of developing general frameworks for theoretical foundations and real-world applications, it discusses a number of new classes of generalised second-order invex functions and second-order univex functions, new sets of second-order necessary optimality conditions, second-order sufficient optimality conditions, and second-order duality models for establishing numerous duality theorems for discrete minmax (or maxmin) semi-infinite fractional programming problems. In the current interdisciplinary supercomputer-oriented research environment, semi-infinite fractional programming is among the most rapidly expanding research areas in terms of its multi-facet applications empowerment for real-world problems, which may stem from many control problems in robotics, outer approximation in geometry, and portfolio problems in economics, that can be transformed into semi-infinite problems as well as handled by transforming them into semi-infinite fractional programming problems. As a matter of fact, in mathematical optimisation programs, a fractional programming (or program) is a generalisation to linear fractional programming. These problems lay the theoretical foundation that enables us to fully investigate the second-order optimality and duality aspects of our principal fractional programming problem as well as its semi-infinite counterpart.
Book Synopsis Magneto-Inductive Communication and Localization by : Gregor Dumphart
Download or read book Magneto-Inductive Communication and Localization written by Gregor Dumphart and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2022-06-15 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilizing magnetic induction for wireless communication, wireless powering, passive relaying, and localization could enable massive wireless sensor applications with tiny nodes in challenging media, foremost biomedical in-body sensor networks. This work investigates the performance limits of these unique wireless systems with hardly any assumptions. As a foundation, a general system model and an interface to communication theory are developed. A major part of this work identifies two crucial magneto-inductive fading channels: that between randomly oriented coils and that caused by a nearby swarm of resonant passive relay coils. The analysis yields important technological implications. Based thereon, an investigation of wirelessly-powered in-body sensors is conducted, revealing their active and passive data transmission capabilities. Finally, a treatise of magneto-inductive node localization develops algorithms that perform near identified accuracy limits in theory and practice.

Our entries, authored by key figures in the field, focus on special considerations when applied specifically to communication research, accompanied by engaging examples from the literature of communication, journalism, and media studies. Entries cover every step of the research process, from the creative development of research topics and questions to literature reviews, selection of best methods (whether quantitative, qualitative, or mixed) for analyzing research results and publishing research findings, whether in traditional media or via new media outlets. In addition to expected entries covering the basics of theories and methods traditionally used in communication research, other entries discuss important trends influencing the future of that research, including contemporary practical issues students will face in communication professions, the influences of globalization on research, use of new recording technologies in fieldwork, and the challenges and opportunities related to studying online multi-media environments. Email, texting, cellphone video, and blogging are shown not only as topics of research but also as means of collecting and analyzing data. Still other entries delve into considerations of accountability, copyright, confidentiality, data ownership and security, privacy, and other aspects of conducting an ethical research program. Features: 652 signed entries are contained in an authoritative work spanning four volumes available in choice of electronic or print formats. Although organized A-to-Z, front matter includes a Reader’s Guide grouping entries thematically to help students interested in a specific aspect of communication research to more easily locate directly related entries.
