The present compilation of all subject-related publications is a comprehensive bibliography for the field of linguistic errors. In a compact introduction, Bernd Spillner additionally provides an overview of linguistic, didactic and psycholinguistic methods of the analysis and assessment of the errors and their therapy. Book excerpt: A light-hearted, yet thoroughly professional, description of typical mistakes made by Spanish speakers of English with explanations of how to avoid and correct them. In 24 years of teaching English in Barcelona, I have a heard and read a great number of mistakes. The purpose of this compilation is to present them in a way that will make an impact on the reader, who will then learn to avoid them. Clearly, mistakes must be identified and corrected. This book is written in English, but it does not require a high language level to be understood. It is intended for a general public. Technical terminology has been kept to a minimum (though standard phonetic symbols are used to show pronunciation) and the style is light and humorous, with anecdotes that are a true reflection of mistakes that are made by Spanish-speakers. There are two pages of the typical mistakes made by Catalan-speakers. In almost 30 years of teaching English in Barcelona, I have a heard and read a great number of mistakes. REVIEWS An easy-to-read and user-friendly book ... grammar receives careful attention ... may benefit both intermediate and advanced students of English ... Teachers of English may also find it useful. TESOL Spain Newsletter While [this book] is clearly aimed at the Spanish-speaking learner of English it is also valuable for the teacher of English working in a Spanish-speaking environment ... [it highlights] many of the false friends which exist ... Translations show the learner what words do, and, equally importantly, do not mean ... with a wealth of real-life examples which are sometimes humorous, the book is very readable ... There is certainly a gap in the market for such a book ... of all the many English language books I have on my bookshelf, this is the only one that has a long waiting list of Spanish-speaking friends wanting to borrow it. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Error correction research has focused mostly on whether teachers should correct errors in students' speech and how they should go about it. The present research seeks to explore the existing error correction practices in Spanish immersion classes at the middle school level. Data were gathered from three main sources: (1) Literature review on error correction and grammar in second language classes, (2) ethnographic notes and case studies of a particular Spanish Immersion 8th grade class at the middle school level, and (3) a teacher survey comprising a questionnaire for the students. The results revealed that there exist a range of error feedback strategies, and that no matter what method of error correction is used in an Immersion class, students have a hard time committing to a longterm solution to their mistakes. The results of the survey also showed that the students were reliant on teachers for corrective feedback and they wanted to be corrected so as to improve their language output. In conclusion, the author hopes that this literature review, observations and ethnographic notes on a Spanish Immersion class, and the students' point of view on the subject of error correction will be valuable to any language teacher and motivates other language researchers to look at error corrections and to find ways to refine and correct language on a long term basis"--Leaf iii.

Book excerpt: How can today's teachers, whose classrooms are more culturally and linguistically diverse than ever before, ensure that their students achieve at high levels? How can they design units and lessons that support English learners in language development and content learning—simultaneously? Authors Amy Heineke and Jay McTighe provide the answers by adding a lens on language to the widely used Understanding by Design® framework (UbD® framework) for curriculum design, which emphasizes teaching for understanding, not rote memorization. Readers will learn the components of the UbD framework; the fundamentals of language and language development; how to use diversity as a valuable resource for instruction by gathering information about students’ background knowledge from home, community, and school; how to design units and lessons that integrate language development with content learning in the form of essential knowledge and skills; and how to assess in ways that enable language learners to reveal their academic knowledge. Student profiles, real-life classroom scenarios, and sample units and lessons provide compelling examples of how teachers in all grade levels and content areas use the UbD framework in their culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms. Combining these practical examples with findings from an extensive research base, the authors deliver a useful and authoritative guide for reaching the overarching goal: ensuring that all students have equitable access to high-quality curriculum and instruction.

This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pathways presents an innovative way of reflecting on the multidimensionality of assessment, learning and teaching in line with the CEFR. It has been designed to support professionals at all levels. The two main components of Pathways - guide and kit - integrated by various indexes, mind maps and examples of scenarios, encourage users to work in a non linear way and to select and customize. The guide addresses those fundamental concepts in the CEFR that may not be readily transparent and that especially warrant "unpacking" for educational practices in a way that is clear and accessible for professionals, both in their pre- and in-service teacher education. The kit offers 107 worksheets, which serve as a bridge for teacher educators and teachers, to reflect on these concepts and to relate them appropriately to pedagogical practices.
