Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through pointed studies of important aspects and topics of dharma in Dharmaśāstra, this comprehensive collection shows that the history of Hinduism cannot be written without the history of Hindu law. Part One provides a concise overview of the literary genres in which Dharmasastra was written with attention to chronology and historical developments. This study divides the tradition into its two major historical periods--the origins and formation of the classical texts and the later genres of commentary and digest--in order to provide a thorough, but manageable overview of the textual bases of the tradition. Part Two presents descriptive and historical studies of all the major substantive topics of Dharmasastra. Each chapter offers readers with salest knowledge of the debates, transformations, and fluctcating importance of each topic. Indirectly, readers will also gain insight into the ethos or worldview of religious law in Hinduism, enabling them to get a feel for how dharma authors thought and why. Part Three contains brief studies of the impact and reception of Dharmasastra in other South Asian cultural and textual traditions. Finally, Part Four draws inspiration from "critical terms" in contemporary legal and religious studies to analyze Dharmasastra texts. Contributors offer interpretive views of Dharmasastra that start from hermeneutic and social concerns today.

This book was released on 2020-07-13 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the time of 19th century, British employed people passing out from Oxford and Cambridge University to study the thousands of year old Sanskrit texts of India and interpret them in a way that the Indian people never become one. Inspired by the new set of values and might of British Empire these people, also considered as Orientalist, started the work of reading Sanskrit texts and present them in a way which makes people feel that British ways are better than those scriptures. While the prime aim of these interpretations was to hide the robbery of Indian resources, some considered it as reality and helped the British. This help became so vital for the British that a nation which was considered as the golden bird (सोने की चिड़िया) on earth and even after centuries of invasions and loot still contributing 20-24% of world GDP became one of the poorest nations of the world contributing 1-2% of world GDP with frequent incidents of riots, famine etc. Somewhere one orientalist identified it and in his old age realized that he wasted all his life and knowledge in just showing that the 3,000 year-old Indian Scriptures (as per his idea on the date though they are even older) are inferior to present British knowledge system. The name of this orientalist was Max Muller and he tried to reverse the damage by sharing the need of Indian Knowledge system in those texts to make our inner life perfect, more comprehensive and universal. But the damage was already done and in the last 150 years, many Muller’s of a young age are produced by our education system instead of Muller’s who turned wise. Therefore, to throw better light on Indian Society which was missed by Orientalist and present-day young Muller’s, this book is developed by using the philosophy of Jagadguru Adi Shankracharya, i.e. philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, which forces us to look for knowledge which is inside human rather than what knowledge a man possesses. It is considered as the true form of Vidya and under present circumstances, it is the most vital need of Indian Society, especially our Administrators who are supposed to serve the people of India as an Iron Pillar. It is vital that they know about the past, present and future of Indian Society and serves it with excellence, as Krishna said, “योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्”, i.e. Unity (or Yoga) is excellence in Action. Based on it, the book contains relevant information on the topics under Society portion of GS Paper-I such as- Salient features of Indian Society, Diversity of India; Role of women and women’s organization, population and associated issues, poverty and developmental issues, urbanization, their problems and their remedies; Effects of globalization on Indian society; Social empowerment, communalism, regionalism & secularism along with approach and solutions on previous year Questions.

Book excerpt: Summary of The Laws of Human Nature In The Laws of Human Nature, Robert Greene offers 18 laws that explain who we are as human beings and why we act the way we do. As in most of his previous literary works, Greene puts special emphasis on the emotional and manipulative qualities that human beings possess. The book is divided into 18 chapters, with each chapter referring to a specific law that defines human nature. Greene begins each chapter by providing a brief explanation of what each law entails. He then narrates a story of a real-life person who embodies a particular aspect of human nature. In every story, there are numerous lessons to learn, with Greene offering insightful and practical strategies on how to adopt the specific law. The purpose of the book is to show you the best and worst parts of human nature so that you become more aware of them. Greene wants the reader to analyze their own character, see whether they suffer from a particular flaw, and learn how to overcome it. The author also wants you to become more aware of these natural tendencies in the people around you so that you avoid being manipulated and controlled. The book covers a wide range of themes, ranging from evolution, to spirituality, economics, politics, and religion. Greene ties all these themes together to paint a picture of human nature and how we can better understand ourselves. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is often asserted that ‘A family that prays together, stays together’. But what if a child no longer wishes to pray? This book analyses the law in relation to situations where parents force their children to manifest the parental religion. From thorough examination of international law it argues that, unlike what is generally believed, the human rights regime does not grant parents a right to impose manifestations of their religion on their children. Instead, the author proposes to regard coerced manifestations as a limitation on children’s right to freedom of manifestation, based on national laws that give parents rights at the domestic level under principles such as parental responsibility. The book focuses on two aspects of States’ positive obligations in this regard. First, the obligation to provide a regulatory framework that can protect children’s right to freedom of manifestation, and restricts limitations to those that are proportionate or 'necessary in a democratic society'. Second, to provide access to remedies, which it is argued should consist of access to a family-friendly infrastructure for dispute resolution available to parents and children in conflict over religious manifestation. Both depend heavily on the way States balance power between parents and children at the national level. The book includes three case studies and social research of jurisdictions that offer different perspectives under the principles of parental authority (France), parental responsibility (England) and parental rights (Hong Kong).
