His own words were, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay dawn his life for his friends. Why did he leave a holy heaven for a sinful world the songs of angels for the temptations of devils a throne of glory fora cross of agony? It was love, only love. Love, not to friends, but to foes. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, He showed his tender love in a thousand ways when on earth, going about doin good, healing all manner of sickness, never turning from t e poor and the sad, always the Friend ot'sinners. How he wept over Jerusalem, as he thought of her sins and approaching sufferings. When in the agonies of death, how kindly he spoke to the penitent thief at his side; and how earnestly prayed for his mocking murderers; Father, forgive them; or they know not what they do. He might easily have called forth an rmy of angels to deliver him but if he had not died, we 0 uid not have been saved and thefore, because he loved us, he drank the bitter cup to its very dregs. Now that he has risen again, his love to sinners is as great as ever. Love prompts him to intercede for us, to pity us, to send his Spirit to help us, to wait to be gracious, and save us. He loves you he died for you he looks down with pity on you he calls you to come to him. His love has Spared you till now, though you have rejectedhim. His love bears with your sins, and again at 'this moment entreats you to accept a pardon purchased by his blood. If some fri d had spent his fortune to deliver you from prison, or risked his life to save yours, could you treat him with neglect? But Jesus has done far more. He died to redeem you from eternal woe, and make you happy for ever in heaven. He comes to you, and showing the marks of his wounds, he says, See how' I loved thee, sinner. Ilove thee still. Come unto me, that I may save thee from sin and. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The feeblest expression of Christian pity and love, though it be but the widow's mite, or the cup of cold water, or the kindly look and word when there is neither mite nor cup to give, yet, if done in His name, it is entered in the book of life as a loan to the Lord; and in that day when the books are opened, the loan will be paid back with usury. This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thoughts on the Coming and Kingdom of Our Lord Jesus Christ It is a cause for joy, that there arc so many things in religion in which God's people are agreed; while there is much reason to mourn, that there are still so many things about which they differ, and that at present the church is very far removed from any thing like unity of faith. The former shows the power of the Spirit of God, the latter the force of prejudice; for it is this principle which is the great bar to unity. May the Lord in mercy remove it; make us all willing to submit to his word; ready to unlearn what is wrong; and willing to give up every system or sentiment, however cherished, which will not bear the test of truth. It must be acknowledged, that against the sentiments advocated in the following pages, a strong tide of prejudice is running. These doctrines are, the pre-millennial coming of Christ: the first resurrection of the saints; their reigning with Christ on earth; the restoration, and future glory of the Jews; and the renovation of creation. Now it is well known, that many good people will scarcely hear these things mentioned; so strong is their prejudice. Could the author of the following pages believe that those who thus despise these views, and who also despise, or else pity those who advocate them, had dispassionately attended to their claims, and prayerfully studied God's word on this subject, unfettered by a system received from others, he would blot out the word prejudice, and supply its place with a softer word. But he cannot think that many who cry out against millenarianism have thus done; and therefore painfully feels that, in speaking or writing upon this subject, he has so great an enemy as prejudice to contend against. Still, he docs not question the sincerity of those who thus act, though he believes them to be sincerely wrong; neither is the existence of this difference, a draw-back upon Christian affection. No, wherever God's image is, there he would wish his love to rest: even though he sees not every sentiment he considers scriptural reflected in the mind of his fellow saint.
