Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) is one of the recently developed miniaturized analytical techniques. The separation mechanism involved in the separation process is based mainly on the analytes‘ stationary–mobile phase interactions; however, in the case of charged compounds, the different electrophoretic mobilities have to be considered. The process takes place in a capillary column, containing a selected stationary phase, where the mobile phase is delivered by an electro-osmotic flow (EOF) controlled by the application of a relatively high electric field. In contrast to what happens in liquid chromatography, where the mobile phase possesses a parabolic profile, in CEC, a plug flow profile is observed that helps achieve a higher efficiency. This overview includes the illustration of basic principles of CEC, the latest achievements concerning the instrumentation used (stationary phases, columns, detectors, hyphenation), description of method optimization, selected examples, and some potential uses of CEC in separation science.

Book Synopsis Capillary Liquid Chromatography by : Boris Grigorʹevich Belenʹkiĭ
Download or read book Capillary Liquid Chromatography written by Boris Grigorʹevich Belenʹkiĭ and published by Springer. This book was released on 1987-03-31 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 1980s capillary liquid chromatography was being established; it was a period in which only a few research groups published a relatively small number of papers on the subject. In terest has since taken off, and a period of intense development, to which no end is yet in sight, is now upon us. More investiga tors and instrument-making firms are now entering the field. This greater interest has resulted in the rapid appearance of two collec tions [1, 2] and a series of topical reviews [3-6]. However, it could hardly be said that all the problems in this area have been formulated, let alone solved. The preparation of very efficient - open tubular or packed - microbore columns, for example, remains more an art than a science, while the relation ship between radial and longitudinal mass transfer, and the effect of transcolumn velocity profiles on chromatographic efficiency, have been very poorly studied. Indeed, recent publications on these subjects have sometimes, far from clarifying matters, only muddied them further. Many instrument-making firms are trying to unify their equip ment so that it is suitable for microbore, conventional (analytical), and preparative liquid chromatography. This approach has not real ized the full potential of capillary chromatography, and there also remains room for improving the performance of capillary columns.
Book Synopsis High Performance Liquid Chromatography & Capillary Electrophoresis by : Andrea Weston
Download or read book High Performance Liquid Chromatography & Capillary Electrophoresis written by Andrea Weston and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-07-21 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HPLC and CE: Principles and Practice presents the latest information on the most powerful separation techniques available: high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis (CE). Fundamental theory, instrumentation, modes of operation, and optimization of separations are presented in a concise, non-technical style to help the user in choosing the appropriate technique quickly and accurately. Well- illustrated and containing convenientend-of-chapter summaries of the major concepts, the book provides in-depth coverage of trouble-shooting, improvement of resolution, data manipulation, selectivity, and sensitivity.Graduate students, technicians, and researchers who must use separations with little or no background in analytical chemistry can overcome separation anxiety and get started in obtaining the best possible separations in minimal time. The book will alsobe useful to analytical chemists who need a better understanding of theory and processes. - Fully up-to-date information on both HPLC and CE includes troubleshooting and comparisons of the two techniques - Applicable to a wide variety of separation problems - Covers basic concepts governing any separation as well as instrumentation and how to use it - Helps the user to obtain optimal resolution in minimal time - Contains information on special procedures such as chiral separations, affinity chromatography, and sample preparation - Includes information on upcoming trends such as miniaturization - Major concepts in each chapter are organized to allow access to information easily and quickly - Contains practical bibliography for accessing the literature
