This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If one were forced to use a single key word to describe the decade of the 1980's, a very prominent one would be "technology. " Leading the forefront of tech nology advancement were breakthroughs in electronics. Devices that were uncommon or unknown in 1980 became commonplace, and almost indispens able, by 1989. This trend has continued into the 1990's and it does not seem to be abating in any way. Microwave ovens, video recorders, telephone answer ing machines, compact disc players, computers, and a host of smaller or less sophisticated devices now appear in most households. The development of small and inexpensive computers, i. e. , personal computers, has placed computing resources within reach of many more people. In addition, many traditional, and largely mechanical devices, have been enhanced by electronics. For example, specialized microprocessors are combined with arrays of electronic sensors to control and monitor sophisticated engineering components in most new auto mobiles. In this and many other ways, we are touched by the new electronics in almost every aspect of our daily lives. Initially, personal computers were little more than toys. They contained only a small fraction of the computing power of their immediate ancestors, the mini computers and mainframe computers. However, rapid improvements in integ rated circuit design and chip manufacture produced regular reductions in size and cost of computer components. During the same time, processor speed and sophistication increased.

Download or read book Compliance and Ethics in Law Firms written by Tracey Calvert and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the key features of outcomes-focused regulation is the expectation that everyone working in a law firm will demonstrate ethical and professional behaviours. The principles of the SRA Code of Conduct 2011 underpin all aspects of practice. Not only do solicitors need to be aware of their professional conduct duties, but all other members of the firm, regardless of job title or qualifications, must also understand the principles.Getting this wrong can not only damage a firm's client relationships, but it can also lead to legal/regulatory action, professional indemnity implications, and loss of reputation. [This] is a practical book which can be used by everyone who works in a law firm, as it provides both a useful reminder of essential requirements for solicitors and an introduction to conduct, ethics and compliance obligations for non-legally trained members of the firm."--Back cover.

Book Synopsis Guide to the GDPR by : Maciej Gawronski
Download or read book Guide to the GDPR written by Maciej Gawronski and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2019-07-17 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To execute and guarantee the right to privacy and data protection within the European Union (EU), the EU found it necessary to establish a stable, consistent framework for personal data protection and to enforce it in a decisive manner. This book, the most comprehensive guide available to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is the first English edition, updated and expanded, of a bestselling book published in Poland in 2018 by a renowned technology lawyer, expert to the European Commission on cloud computing and to the Article 29 Working Party (now: the European Data Protection Board) on data transfers who in fact contributed ideas to the GDPR. The implications of major innovations of the new system – including the obligation of businesses to consult the GDPR first rather than relevant Member State legislation and the extension of the GDPR to companies located outside of the European Economic Area – are fully analysed for the benefit of lawyers and companies worldwide. Among the specific issues and topics covered are the following: insight into the tricky nature of the GDPR; rules relating to free movement of personal data; legal remedies, liability, administrative sanctions; how to prove compliance with GDPR; direct liability of subcontractors (sub-processors); managing incidents and reporting data breaches; information on when and under what conditions the GDPR rules may apply to non-EU parties; backups and encryption; how to assess risk and adjust security accordingly and document the process; guidelines of the European Data Protection Board; and the GDPR’s digest for obligated parties in a form of a draft data protection policy. The Guide often breaks down GDPR articles into checklists of specific requirements. Of special value are the numerous ready-to-adapt template compliance documents presented in Part II. Because the GDPR contains a set of new obligations and a perspective of severe administrative fines for non-compliance, this guide is an indispensable practical resource for corporate data protection officers, in-house counsel, lawyers in data protection practice, and e-commerce start-ups worldwide.

Book Synopsis Democratizing Legal Services by : Laura Snyder
Download or read book Democratizing Legal Services written by Laura Snyder and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a “law-thick” world. For individuals and organizations in both the public and private sectors, navigating the large number of complex laws, rules, institutions, and procedures that pervade American life is virtually impossible without some assistance. Some argue that "there are too many lawyers." Others argue that the unmet need for legal services is so high that it constitutes a human rights crisis. This book exposes why it is easy to access legal services for some, while it is virtually impossible for others, and why some lawyers have successful careers, but others cannot. This book argues that the problems plaguing legal services in the US can be only be addressed by a radical overhaul of the rules that govern how legal services may be delivered, as well as radical changes to who exercises the power to make those rules. Through interviews with those with experience with alternative legal service providers, this book exposes the formidable obstacles that exist along the path to those changes, as well as the opportunities that await.
