This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you wonder? Do you have big existential questions about your life and life in general? Do you wonder about the meaning of life and why we are here? This story is written as a meditation and thought exercise. We follow two main characters as they explore the meaning of life. One character is a tiny blue speck in the vastness of the universe and the other is a human woman, one of the many smaller entities that live within the tiny blue speck which itself lives within another and so on infinitely. There is a synchronicity established as we see that the experience of the human woman mirrors on her level the experiences of the tiny blue speck which is intelligent at the cellular level. We humans may in fact be cells in another larger more intelligent body. Philosophy is explored as Amber looks for meaning while fulfilling assignments in her college philosophy class. The book explores the idea of, ‘as above so below’ and the meaning of our existence by following the internal emotional view and the external practical view through the various colorful emotions of the rainbow. There is an exploration of the chakras and their healthiest meanings as well as an exploration of travels through the stages of grief as one of the main characters, a college student, has loss both of her parents in an accident and has to come to an understanding about life and love and connection. Understanding darkness and Shadow is an essential part of understanding the meaning of life. Both characters, the woman and the cell of light feels alone and on a mission of discovery. One character voluntarily leaves the collective glow while the other is left alone by the death of her parents. The major lesson is one of connection, to one or more other beings. We connect by finding joy, sharing it, and by realizing, experiencing, and accepting the joy of connection with all of existence. Darkness and light are part of the same river seen from different perspectives. We are drops of light and color in a vast river of light with no beginning and no end. We are the glow. The several major pieces of the writer’s artwork included evokes the same kinds of meditative thoughtful frame of mind in pursuit of meaning. You are invited to kick your feet up and explore one verse, one picture and one emotion at a time. Enjoy!

Book excerpt: Since the dawn of time, electromagnetic energy has permeated through the universe, surrounding and interacting with everything it touches, illuminating, destroying and giving life. The colourful section of the electromagnetic spectrum we see in the form of visible light, rainbows and other phenomena is tiny when compared to its vast entirety. Using many parts of the electromagnetic spectrum have become common everyday occurrence for the majority of people on Earth, as it's been integrated into our lives in ways that we don't even think twice about it. This book illuminates many parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and its effects, the endless ways we have harnessed its energy, and how we interact and live with its influence. (less)

Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, a quiet revolution has taken place in the world of light art and design with the introduction of LED technology. Sydney-based artists Ruth McDermott and Ben Baxter have been on the vanguard of this movement, creating innovative and award-winning installation artworks utilizing the capabilities of this new technology. A frequent highlight of the Vivid Sydney light art festival, their work has become known for creating site-specific narratives exploring the landscapes and histories of Sydney and its surrounds. This book surveys twelve years of their practice (2009-2021), as their work evolved in tandem with the technology, with a special focus on the technical aspects of creating, mounting, and displaying large-scale installations. Along with an essay on the history of light art, commentary from collaborators, and over 100 photographs documenting the conceptual life span of eighteen artworks, this book features the authors reflections on the unique relationship of artistic collaboration, and how this relationship has enhanced their practice and journey as artists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the first two decades of the nineteenth century, two of the most significant theoretical works on color since Leonardo da Vinci's Trattato della Pittura were written and published in Germany: Arthur Schopenhauer's On Vision and Colors and Philipp Otto Runge's Color Sphere. For Schopenhauer, vision is wholly subjective in nature and characterized by processes that cross over into the territory of philosophy. Runge's Color Sphere and essay "The Duality of Color" contained one of the first attempts to depict a comprehensive and harmonious color system in three dimensions. Runge intended his color sphere to be understood not as a product of art, but rather as a "mathematical figure of various philosophical reflections." By bringing these two visionary color theories together within a broad theoretical context—philosophy, art, architecture, and design—this volume uncovers their enduring influence on our own perception of color and the visual world around us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light pervades the world, and when it is not light, darkness emerges and is combated by electric illumination. Despite this globally shared human experience in which spaces appear radically different depending on time, season, and weather, social science investigation on the subject is meager. From Light to Dark fills this gap, focusing on our interaction with daylight, illumination, and darkness. Tim Edensor begins by examining the effects of daylight on our perception of landscape, drawing on artworks, particular landscapes, and architectural practice. He then considers the ways in which illumination is often contested and can be used to express power, looking at how capitalist, class, ethnic, military, and state power use lighting to reinforce their authority over space. Edensor also considers light artists such as Olafur Eliasson and festivals of illumination before turning a critical eye to the supposedly dangerous, sinister associations of darkness. In examining the modern city as a space of fantasy through electric illumination, he studies how we are seeking—and should seek—new forms of darkness in reaction to the perpetual glow of urban lighting. Highly original and absorbingly written, From Light to Dark analyzes a vast array of artistic interventions, diverse spaces, and lighting technologies to explore these most basic human experiences.
