This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study draws on multiple writings to offer a new conceptualization, one that aids in the assessment of unethical practices. Traditionally, phenomenology and the sociology of knowledge have focused on perception, cognition and common sense. Ethnomethodology has focused on procedural infrastructures of ordinary lives. This article combines concepts and ideas from these methodologies in the general concept of "collective myopia" with some Habermasian and Foucaultian influences. The conceptualization focuses on normative controls operating behind the scenes of unethical practices in Japanese business. The contributions of national culture to the crimes are omitted as much as possible to establish a position of general theory. The conceptualization is then applied to examine the case of the Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank, which was linked to racketeering in 1997.

Book Synopsis Japanese Understanding of Salvation by : Martin Heißwolf
Download or read book Japanese Understanding of Salvation written by Martin Heißwolf and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is no secret that Christianity has been widely rejected in Japan with less than two percent of the population identifying as Christian. The dominant worldview in Japan is deeply animistic, with beliefs such as the Japanese mana-concept, ki (気), the Japanese soul-concept, and the concept of God/god(s), kami (神), being deeply rooted in the culture and fundamentally influencing society. Dr Martin Heißwolf, with his years of experience in Japan, critically examines Japanese animism in light of core Christian beliefs, such as the concepts of “peace” and “salvation.” Central to Japanese people’s rejection of Christian truth is the diametric opposition of its supernatural message to the natural focus of Japanese animistic folk religion. Heißwolf’s meticulous study is framed squarely within missiological thought and praxis so Christians serving in Japanese contexts are better able to communicate the message of the gospel by more fully understanding Japanese people, people by whom God wants to be known.

Book Synopsis Organizational Ethics and Stakeholder Well-Being in the Business Environment by : Sean Valentine
Download or read book Organizational Ethics and Stakeholder Well-Being in the Business Environment written by Sean Valentine and published by IAP. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational ethics involves the institutionalized principles, guidelines, and norms that influence how a company and its employees function in an ethical manner. Ultimately, these processes collectively influence a firm's 1) overall sense ofbusiness ethics, 2) management of employees, and 3) interactions with partners outside of the immediate work environment. Researcher and practitioners are interested in organizational ethics because the different approaches used to develop such a context generate many other positive business outcomes. While the connection between organizational ethics and employee/stakeholder well-being has been explored, moving forward with a number of new investigations should push the literature forward. This book seeks to explore these important topics and present a more comprehensive overview of organizational ethics and stakeholder well-being in the business environment. Such inquiry is important because the linkages between business ethics and stakeholders, if wellmanaged, have the capacity to benefit both companies and employees. In addition, the content of this book should serve to guide future investigations within this area of business ethics.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of the Learning Organization by : Anders Örtenblad
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of the Learning Organization written by Anders Örtenblad and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-12-17 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of the 'learning organization' is one of the most popular management ideas of the last few decades. Since it was conceived as an idea in its own right, it has been given various definitions and meanings, such that we are still faced with the question as to whether any unified understanding of what the learning organization really is can be established. This Handbook offers extensive reviews of both new and traditional perspectives on the concept and provides suggestions for how the learning organization can best be defined, practiced, studied, and developed in future research. With contributions from long-standing scholars in the field as well as those new to the area, this book aims to bridge the gap between traditional and more critical perspectives, and in doing so find alternative features and angles to take the idea forward. In addition to elaborating on and developing older definitions of the learning organization and suggesting updated and even new definitions, the chapters also provide focused explorations on pertinent aspects of the learning organization such as ambidexterity, gender inclusivity, and systems thinking. They also survey organizations that have made efforts towards becoming learning organizations, how the learning organization can best be measured and studied, and the universality of the idea itself. Some of the questions raised in this book are answered, or at least given tentative answers, while other questions are left open. In this way, the book has the ambition to take the learning organization an important step further, whilst having no intentions to take any final step; instead, the intention is that others will endeavour to continue where this book stops.
Book Synopsis Confucian Capitalism by : John H. Sagers
Download or read book Confucian Capitalism written by John H. Sagers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the life story of Shibusawa Eiichi (1840–1931), one of the most important financiers and industrialists in modern Japanese history, as its narrative focal point, this book explores the challenges of importing modern business enterprises to Japan, where the pursuit of profit was considered beneath the dignity of the samurai elite. Seeking to overturn the Tokugawa samurai-dominated political economy after the Meiji Restoration, Shibusawa was a pioneer in introducing joint-stock corporations to Japan as institutions of economic development. As the entrepreneurial head of Tokyo’s Dai-Ichi Bank, he helped launch modern enterprises in such diverse industries as banking, shipping, textiles, paper, beer, and railroads. Believing businesses should be both successful and serve the national interest, Shibusawa regularly cautioned against the pursuit of profit alone. He insisted instead on the ‘unity of morality and economy’ following business ethics derived from the Confucian Analects. A top leader in Japan’s business community for decades, Shibusawa contributed to founding the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce, and numerous educational and philanthropic organizations to promote his vision of Confucian capitalism. This volume marks an important contribution to the international debate on the extent to which capitalist enterprises have a responsibility to serve and benefit the societies in which they do business. Shibusawa's story demonstrates that business, government, trade associations, and educational institutions all have valuable roles to play in establishing a political economy that is both productive and humane.
