Book excerpt: Creating a sensation when it was first published in 1877, the first major work by the young Russian noblewoman who would found the Theosophical Society devoted 1200 pages to the mysteries of ancient and modern science and theology. This new edition abridged by Theosophical scholar Michael Gomes breathes fresh life into this classic of Western esoteric thinking. Stripped of its lengthy quotations from other writers and its repetitious commentary, Isis Unveiled is revealed to be a clear and readable exploration of the universal truths of the Ancient Wisdom Tradition by one of the most remarkable women of modern times.
Book Synopsis Studies in Occultism by : H. P. Blavatsky
Download or read book Studies in Occultism written by H. P. Blavatsky and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2019-01-09 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occultism is not magic. It is comparatively easy to learn the trick of spells and the methods of using the subtler, but still material, forces of physical nature; the powers of the animal soul in man are soon awakened; the forces which his love, his hate, his passion, can call into operation, are readily developed. But this is Black Magic — Sorcery. For it is the motive, and the motive alone, which makes any exercise of power become black, malignant, or white, beneficent Magic. It is impossible to employ spiritual forces if there is the slightest tinge of selfishness remaining in the operator. For, unless the intention is entirely unalloyed, the spiritual will transform itself into the psychic, act on the astral plane, and dire results may be produced by it. The powers and forces of animal nature can equally be used by the selfish and revengeful, as by the unselfish and the all-forgiving; the powers and forces of spirit lend themselves only to the perfectly pure in heart — and this is DIVINE MAGIC.

Book Synopsis The Masters Revealed by : K. Paul Johnson
Download or read book The Masters Revealed written by K. Paul Johnson and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existence of Madame Blavatsky's occult "Masters" has been fiercely debated for more than a century. Although scores of books have been written about her, none has focused on the historical identities of these elusive teachers. This book profiles 32 of Blavatsky's hidden sponsors, including leaders of secret societies in Europe and America, religio-political reformers in Egypt and India, and even British government agents. The milieu in which she carried out her spiritual quest is vividly revealed as a hotbed of revolutionary plots and secret coalitions. But beyond all the politics was a genuine spiritual awakening of global significance.
Book Synopsis The Higher Spiritual Path by : William Wilson Quinn
Download or read book The Higher Spiritual Path written by William Wilson Quinn and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-08 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Predicated on the immemorial core or "first" principles of the universal perennial philosophy, which finds expression from Lao Tzu to Ramana Maharshi in the East and from Pythagoras to René Guénon and Ananda K. Coomaraswamy in the West, The Higher Spiritual Path details how those on the higher spiritual path must address and master its requirements. This book is as practical as it is philosophical -- or theosophical -- since it is based on the specifics of “sacred science,” or spiritual science, an inextricable component of the perennial philosophy. Many of the requirements of the higher spiritual path are based on the truths of this ancient spiritual science, formulated over millennia by jivanmukti, or liberated beings, who serve as the teachers of those currently engaged in treading this hieratic path. The goals of ascending this path are the loftiest; the hierarchical order of its spiritual teachers is the holiest; and the totality of its evolutionary and compassionate purpose is the most sacred.
Book Synopsis The Cambridge Companion to New Religious Movements by : Olav Hammer
Download or read book The Cambridge Companion to New Religious Movements written by Olav Hammer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-08-30 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New religions emerge as distinct entities in the religious landscape when innovations are introduced by a charismatic leader or a schismatic group leaves its parent organization. New religious movements (NRMs) often present novel doctrines and advocate unfamiliar modes of behavior, and have therefore often been perceived as controversial. NRMs have, however, in recent years come to be treated in the same way as established religions, that is, as complex cultural phenomena involving myths, rituals and canonical texts. This Companion discusses key features of NRMs from a systematic, comparative perspective, summarizing results of forty years of research. The volume addresses NRMs that have caught media attention, including movements such as Scientology, New Age, the Neopagans, the Sai Baba movement and Jihadist movements active in a post-9/11 context. An essential resource for students of religious studies, the history of religion, sociology, anthropology and the psychology of religion.

Book Synopsis The Eastern Mysteries by : David Allen Hulse

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UNLOCK THE MEANING OF EASTERN MAGICK In scope and clarity, there is no book that can compare to The Eastern Mysteries. This reissue of David Allen Hulse's landmark work is the one book all students of the occult must own. It catalogs and distills, in hundreds of tables of secret symbolism, the true import of each ancient Eastern magickal tradition. Each chapter is a key that unlocks the meaning behind one of the magickal languages. Through painstaking research and analysis, Hulse has accomplished an unprecedented feat -- that of reconstructing the basic underlying systems that form the vast legacy of mystery traditions. The real genius of this accomplishment is that it is presented in a way that is immediately understandable and usable. Although the book deals with many foreign scripts, ancient tongues, and lost symbols, it is designed for the beginning student. Included is a wealth of cross references, excellent introductory material and overviews, an extensive annotated bibliography, and -- new to this edition -- a complete index.

Book Synopsis The Art of Deception is the Rule of Life by : Albert Amao Soria Ph.D.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a spiritual journey of self-discovery for those open-minded and willing to embrace the truth, even if it means confronting deep-rooted false beliefs inherited from our ancestors. It is a call to step out of the comfort of blissful ignorance and into the light of personal enlightenment. Ignoring the truth may provide temporary solace, but it can lead to greater despair and fear in the long term. This existential gap is usually filled with religions, myths, and legends; however, these stories may not be entirely factual. Nevertheless, they provide solace and a sense of purpose in life, so they are often considered well-intentioned, pious fiction. Many desire to know the truth, but few are genuinely prepared to handle it. This book challenges many core beliefs and convictions held as accurate; it may lead to existential conflict. As King Solomon wisely said, “For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief” (Ecclesiastes 1:18). These words resonate with the essence of this book, inviting you to embark on a journey of self-discovery and truth-seeking. It highlights the transformative potential of this process, as those who can confront the truth honestly undergo a psychological catharsis—a liberation of erroneous assumptions. Thus, this book is not for the faint of heart. More than 2,500 years ago, Buddha stated that life is an illusion, and today’s most accurate science, quantum physics, asserts that we live in virtual reality. The truth can challenge our deepest convictions and induce confusion because we live based on false assumptions imposed by our ancestors, mass media, outdated education systems, and traditional erroneous beliefs.
Book Synopsis Occult Roots of Religious Studies by : Yves Mühlematter
Download or read book Occult Roots of Religious Studies written by Yves Mühlematter and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historiographers of religious studies have written the history of this discipline primarily as a rationalization of ideological, most prominently theological and phenomenological ideas: first through the establishment of comparative, philological and sociological methods and secondly through the demand for intentional neutrality. This interpretation caused important roots in occult-esoteric traditions to be repressed. This process of “purification” (Latour) is not to be equated with the origin of the academic studies. De facto, the elimination of idealistic theories took time and only happened later. One example concerning the early entanglement is Tibetology, where many researchers and respected chair holders were influenced by theosophical ideas or were even members of the Theosophical Society. Similarly, the emergence of comparatistics cannot be understood without taking into account perennialist ideas of esoteric provenance, which hold that all religions have a common origin. In this perspective, it is not only the history of religious studies which must be revisited, but also the partial shaping of religious studies by these traditions, insofar as it saw itself as a counter-model to occult ideas.
