Book Synopsis The Heritage of Armenian Literature by : Agop Jack Hacikyan
Download or read book The Heritage of Armenian Literature written by Agop Jack Hacikyan and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 1116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preserving Armenia's rich literary tradition from a multitude of viewpoints has been the aim of this three-volume work. This third volume joins the previous two in making excerpts of Armenian masterpieces accessible in beautifully rendered English translations, while enabling readers to enjoy the immediacy of these works through lively discussions of the authors and their times. Here the focus is on the eighteenth through twentieth centuries. The volume begins with a comprehensive overview of the entire historical, social, and literary panorama of the periods covered: the Armenian Renaissance, the development of modern Armenian (with its Western and Eastern versions), the emergence of a national identity and democratic thinking (with their impact on literature and theater), and such literary schools as Romanticism, Realism, and Aestheticism. Biographies of more than 130 prominent authors appear in these pages, together with critical comments concerning their works and extensive excerpts from the works themselves. The texts are edited, annotated with footnotes, and presented in a format that permits easy comprehension. Literature unveils a rich pageant of works in historical perspective. The varied experiences from the Armenian past come alive, allowing for new understandings and comparisons to literatures of other nations.
Book Synopsis Collected Poems 1909-1962 by : T. S. Eliot
Download or read book Collected Poems 1909-1962 written by T. S. Eliot and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eliot's Collected Poems 1909-1962, first published in the 1960s and reset in 2002, is a core text selling on average 4,000 copies a year. There is no book more key to Faber's list than this: the founder's own life-long curation of his poems. Over the years, certain printing discrepancies and modifications by publishers have crept in, not always in the text's best interests. These have now been resolved conclusively following the meticulous research on Eliot's poems by Christopher Ricks and Jim McCue in The Poems of T. S. Eliot (2015), which created stable texts that are here presented in this new setting as a revised edition of Eliot's classic volume.

Book Synopsis Indian Angles by : Mary Ellis Gibson
Download or read book Indian Angles written by Mary Ellis Gibson and published by Ohio University Press. This book was released on 2011-05-13 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new historical approach to Indian English literature Mary Ellis Gibson shows that poetry, not fiction, was the dominant literary genre of Indian writing in English until 1860 and that poetry written in colonial situations can tell us as much or even more about figuration, multilingual literacies, and histories of nationalism than novels can. Gibson re-creates the historical webs of affiliation and resistance that were experienced by writers in colonial India—writers of British, Indian, and mixed ethnicities. Advancing new theoretical and historical paradigms for reading colonial literatures, Indian Angles makes accessible many writers heretofore neglected or virtually unknown. Gibson recovers texts by British women, by nonelite British men, and by persons who would, in the nineteenth century, have been called Eurasian. Her work traces the mutually constitutive history of English-language poets from Sir William Jones to Toru Dutt and Rabindranath Tagore. Drawing on contemporary postcolonial theory, her work also provides new ways of thinking about British internal colonialism as its results were exported to South Asia. In lucid and accessible prose, Gibson presents a new theoretical approach to colonial and postcolonial literatures.
