Book Synopsis Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Coal Combustion by : M. Valk
Download or read book Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Coal Combustion written by M. Valk and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of fluidized bed coal combustion technology has been developed in the past decade in The Netherlands with a view to expanding the industrial use of coal as an energy supply. Various research groups from universities, institutes for applied science and from boiler industries participated and contributed to this research area. Comprehensive results of such recent experimentation and development work on atmospheric fluidized bed combustion of coal are covered in this volume. Each chapter, written by an expert, treats one specific subject and gives both the theoretical background as well as experimental results and verifications. Though the contents deal primarily with coal combustion, much information proved applicable and relevant for the combustion or incineration of other solid fuels and waste in a fluidized bed. Results of extended research and fundamental backgrounds are presented in order to provide the designer and operator of fluidized bed combustors with more complete and systematic information needed for an optimal design and operation. The design and operating experience of a full scale fluidized bed boiler are discussed and compared with the results of theoretical and experimental research on pilot plant scale.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of the Physical-Chemistry of Pulverized Coal Combustion by : L Lahaye
Download or read book Fundamentals of the Physical-Chemistry of Pulverized Coal Combustion written by L Lahaye and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of coal for the production of energy is certainly not a new area of research. Many research works were carried out to improve the efficiency of industrial and domestic facilities. In the sixties, however, because of the availability and low cost of petroleum, coal consumption decreased and the research effort in this area was minimum. Meanwhile, the situation has totally changed. Considering the reserves of oil and the instability ofregions where they are located, it is becoming absolutely necessary to develop other sources of energy. The major alternative to oil appears to be coal, at least for the near future. Indeed, the reserves known today represent several centuries of energy consumption.!t is therefore becoming urgent to develop efficient and non polluting technologies to produce energy from coal. The main possibilities are : · liquefaction · gasification · directed combustion. Research and development efforts on liquefaction have been considerably reduced because of high cost of technologies involved and poor prospects for the next two decades. Research works on gasification are progressing; it is a promising approach. However, direct combustion either in pulverized coal furnaces or in fluidized beds is the more promising way of expanding rapidly the utilization of coal. These techniques are already used in some facilities but many environmental problems remain, slowing down their development.

Book excerpt: This volume contains papers presented at the 8th International Conference on Coal Science, held in Oviedo, Spain, September 10-15, 1995. Volume I contains papers dealing with Fundamentals and General Aspects, Combustion and Gasification and Pyrolysis and Carbonization. Volume II covers papers discussing Liquefaction and Hydropyrolysis and Coal and the Environment. Book Synopsis Processing and Utilization of High-Sulfur Coals V by : B.K. Parekh
Download or read book Processing and Utilization of High-Sulfur Coals V written by B.K. Parekh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilization of high sulfur coals is becoming increasingly difficult in view of tighter environmental regulations being imposed around the world. To meet the challenge of utilizing high sulfur coals without damaging the environment, many scientists and engineers around the world are engaged in developing novel technologies. In the U.S.A. alone, the federal government has spent about five billion dollars to achieve that goal. This conference, like its predecessors, emphasizes desulfurization with papers on physical and chemical cleaning as well as post-treatment and fluid-bed combustion technologies. Of the 45 papers submitted, 15 papers deal with physical cleaning and 7 deal with chemical cleaning of coal, suggesting that a major emphasis is still be placed on pre-cleaning of coal. The post-treatment technologies, being developed with the support of U.S. federal and state government agencies, emphasize removal of both SOx and NOx gases. The book will be of particular interest and benefit to researchers, graduate students and other people involved in coal processing, characterization and utilization; public policy making and administration related to energy conservation, economic development, and environmental protection; and investors in industry and new technology.
Book Synopsis Lignites of North America by : H.H. Schobert
Download or read book Lignites of North America written by H.H. Schobert and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-01-10 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a comprehensive survey of the origin, the fundamental properties, and the technology of utilization of the lignites of North America, this book will be of particular interest to professional scientists and engineers working in coal research or coal technology. Coals display a continuum of properties, often with no sharp, steep change between ranks and thus the book restricts the discussion strictly to lignites (with the occasional comparisons with other coals). There is a very extensive index, making the contents of the book easily accessible to the reader.

Book Synopsis Pulverized-Coal Combustion and Gasification by : L. Smoot
Download or read book Pulverized-Coal Combustion and Gasification written by L. Smoot and published by Springer. This book was released on 1979-02 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: viii and approaches could be adapted to other coal conversion and combustion problems, we have not considered combustion or gasification in fluidized or fixed beds or in situ processes. In addition, we have not considered other fossil-fuel combustion problems associated with oil shale, tar sands, etc., even though many aspects of pulverized-coal combustion would relate to these problems. For the case of pulverized-coal models, we have attempted to provide a detailed description of the model foundations. Parts I and II of this book emphasize general principles for describing reacting, turbulent or laminar, multiphase systems. General conservation equations are developed and summarized. The basis for computing thermochemical equilibrium in complex, heterogeneous mixtures is presented, together with techniques for rapid computation and reference to required input data. Rate processes are then discussed, including pertinent aspects of turbulence, chemical kinetics, radiative heat transfer, and gas-particle convective-diffusive interactions. Much of Part II deals with parameters and coefficients for describing these complex rate processes. This part of the book provides recommended values of coefficients and parameters for treating complex reacting flows. Parts I and II may well be suitable for use in an advanced course in reacting flows, and have been written partly with that in mind. Part III deals with more specific aspects of pulverized-coal characteristics and rate processes. Following a general description of coal structure and constitution, coal pyrolysis and char oxidation processes are considered.
