Book excerpt: In this fast-paced sequel to The Shroud Conspiracy “that Dan Brown fans will love” (Library Journal), the child cloned from the blood on the Shroud of Turin has the potential to change the world—or to destroy it for good. “John Heubusch is brilliant. I would read anything he writes” (Peggy Noonan, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and bestselling author). In this “sensational sequel” (Steve Forbes), a fallen angel is mistakenly resurrected from the blood of an evil “Watcher” taken from the Shroud of Turin, and the fiend bestows an unstoppable plague on the world. Dr. Jon Bondurant, the forensic anthropologist and avowed atheist, joins with devout Domenika Josef to bring another child of the Shroud into the world to save it, this one borne of DNA believed to be that of Jesus Christ. Can this child be the answer to their—and mankind’s—prayers? His parents are uncertain just who the child is or what he will become, but when he starts demonstrating remarkable powers to heal, they begin to understand that whatever he is, he is not of this world. Might he bring miracles to the world when it needs them the most? Or has science given mankind a tool with which it will destroy itself as the tempting power of the Watcher unfolds? What follows is a globe-spanning chase to uncover the truth and stop a pandemic that just may wipe out humanity once and for all in a “smart, electrifying thriller that delivers cover-to-cover” (Brad Thor, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Spymaster).

Book excerpt: Christianity was born nearly two thousand years ago in ancient Palestine. It has shaped the course of human history. Yet historians still cannot say how it really began. How did a first-century Jew called Jesus manage to spark a new religion? It is one of the biggest and most profound of all historical mysteries. This extraordinary book finally provides a convincing answer. Traditionally, the birth of Christianity has been explained via the miracle of the Resurrection. After Jesus died he was raised from the dead by God and appeared to his disciples, telling them to spread the gospel. Once they saw the Risen Jesus, nothing could shake their belief. Within a few generations Christianity had spread throughout the Middle East and Europe; within a few centuries it had taken over much of the world. But historians have been unable to account for Christianity’s remarkable success without the Resurrection to spark it. If no one really saw the Risen Jesus, how were his followers convinced that he was their immortal Messiah? Art historian Thomas de Wesselow has spent the last seven years deducing the answer to this puzzle, and in doing so he has pieced together an entirely new picture of the birth of Christianity. Reassessing a familiar but misunderstood historical source and reinterpreting many biblical passages, de Wesselow shows that the solution has been staring us in the face for more than a century. The Shroud of Turin, widely thought to be a fake, is in fact authentic. And it holds the key to the greatest mystery in human history.

Book excerpt: The terms 'recombinant DNA technology', 'DNA cloning', 'molecular cloning' or 'gene cloning' all refer to the same process: the transfer of a DNA fragment of interest from one organism to a self-replicating genetic element such as a bacterial plasmid. The DNA of interest can then be propagated in a foreign host cell. This technology has been around since the 1970s, and it has become a common practice in molecular biology labs today. Reproductive cloning is a technology used to generate an animal that has the same nuclear DNA as another currently or previously existing animal. Dolly was created by reproductive cloning technology. In a process called 'somatic cell nuclear transfer' (SCNT), scientists transfer genetic material from the nucleus of a donor adult cell to an egg whose nucleus, and thus its genetic material, has been removed. The reconstructed egg containing the DNA from a donor cell must be treated with chemicals or electric current in order to stimulate cell division. Once the cloned embryo reaches a suitable stage, it is transferred to the uterus of a female host where it continues to develop until birth. Therapeutic cloning, also called "embryo cloning," is the production of human embryos for use in research. The goal of this process is not to create cloned human beings, but rather to harvest stem cells that can be used to study human development and to treat disease. Stem cells are important to biomedical researchers because they can be used to generate virtually any type of specialised cell in the human body. This new book presents an up-to-date Chronology of Cloning along with current and selected abstracts dealing with cloning as well as a guide to books on the topic. Access to the abstract and books sections is provided by title, subject and author indexes.

Book excerpt: We have the technology to clone human beings. But do we have the right? We have the ability to play God. But what if we could clone God? We can... And already did. An ancient prophecy predicts a dire future as past and present intertwine into a deadly dance of power with mankind as the ultimate pawn. Jane Hunt, author of Dragon Legacy: A supernatural event occurs at an Italian monastery in 1046 which starts a chain of events destined to affect the future of humanity. 'The Shroud' is a fast paced apocalyptic thriller with strong elements of horror and suspense. They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions and that is the premise behind this cautionary tale. Fast forward to the 20th century when the ability to clone a human being exists. A group of well-meaning but sadly misguided priests and nuns persuade a genetic scientist with dubious morals to clone Jesus Christ. 'The Shroud' explores interesting themes. Full of plot twists and a cast of characters all with their unique parts to play in the drama that unfolds. Historical flashbacks provide clues to the mystery which I liked. Well written supernatural elements ensure a unique take on a much written about theme it definitely brings something new to the table. Full of vivid imagery and explosive action this is a recommended nail-biting read.

In order to achieve this dream, he graduates college with honors in genetics, imagining the consequences of his success. He feels confident that he would surely win the Nobel Prize in Medicine, as no one before him had succeeded in the feat of creating a clone of Jesus. The first time he vocalized this idea, it sounded like a fantastical rant, even to him. But he began to repeat, in front of the mirror, "I am going to clone Jesus," until he was convinced. It was a plan that could not materialize without the cooperation of a woman to carry the embryo, so he involves Barbara, a student, and pretends to be a seminarian to enter the Turin Cathedral all in order to draw blood from the Shroud of Jesus. The process seems to be unfolding smoothly for the first embryo, with Barbara now passionate about Simon's devotion to this magnificent goal. All goes according to plan, but what paternal conflicts may the young clone experience? What beliefs will he develop as an adult? Will he approve or condemn this grand action of his father's? Born with the charisma of a leader, but contrary to his parents' beliefs, he enlists in the army to seek his own adventure. Book trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-HMQ5hkozU&t=9s

A fictional narrative, its plot radiates around an illegally cloned man on trial for the deaths of a wealthy East Coast couple and the son of a prominent state official. The clone's creator, a now aging scientist, unlocked the secret of recreating the total human genome years before its present day advent, and circumvented the laws of God and man to clone Jesus Christ from a dated DNA sample. In the ensuing conflict, the lead defense attorney encounters unrelenting obstacles, which involve ransom demand and murder, and remains stalemated until climactic revelations occur. The prosecutor, compelled to maintain a near-perfect legal record, disregards moral values until startling evidence is discovered and an emotional encounter forces him to relinquish the fight. THE MASTER COPY constructs a web of associations, utilizing contemporary dialogue to develop the plot and draw the reader into the cathartic ending. However, its premise remains the most intriguing aspect, as it renews an awareness of the prophesized perils facing mankind at the end of the world, and raises the disquieting notion that this controversial story is conceivable

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exposes the agenda behind the bio-robotic grey aliens’ genetic manipulation of certain human races • Reveals the Grey’s nature as sophisticated self-aware machines created by a long vanished extraterrestrial civilization • Explains how their quest to capture human souls appears in the historical record from biblical times • Explains how the phenomenon of racism is a by-product of their genetic tampering In 1997 Nigel Kerner first introduced the notion of aliens known as Greys coming to Earth, explaining that Greys are sophisticated biological robots created by an extraterrestrial civilization they have long since outlived. In this new book Kerner reveals that the Greys are seeking to master death by obtaining something humans possess that they do not: souls. Through the manipulation of human DNA, these aliens hope to create their own souls and, thereby, escape the entropic grip of the material universe in favor of the timeless realm of spirit. Kerner explains that genetic manipulation by the Greys has occurred since biblical times and has led to numerous negative qualities that plague humanity, such as violence, greed, and maliciousness. Racism, he contends, was developed by the aliens to prevent their genetic experiments from being compromised by breeding with others outside their influence. Examining historical records, Kerner shows that Jesus, who represented an uncorrupted genetic line, warned his disciples about the threat posed by these alien interlopers, while Hitler, a pure product of this alien intelligence, waged genocide in an attempt to rid Earth of all those untouched by this genetic tampering. Despite the powerful grip the Greys have on humanity, Kerner says that all hope is not lost. Greys exist wholly in the material world, so if we follow the spiritual laws of reincarnation and karma, aiming for enlightenment and rising above the material--a state the Greys are unable to reach--we can free ourselves from their grasp.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phrase “War on Terror” has quietly been retired from official usage, but it persists in the American psyche, and our understanding of it is hardly complete. Nor will it be, W. J. T Mitchell argues, without a grasp of the images that it spawned, and that spawned it. Exploring the role of verbal and visual images in the War on Terror, Mitchell finds a conflict whose shaky metaphoric and imaginary conception has created its own reality. At the same time, Mitchell locates in the concept of clones and cloning an anxiety about new forms of image-making that has amplified the political effects of the War on Terror. Cloning and terror, he argues, share an uncanny structural resemblance, shuttling back and forth between imaginary and real, metaphoric and literal manifestations. In Mitchell’s startling analysis, cloning terror emerges as the inevitable metaphor for the way in which the War on Terror has not only helped recruit more fighters to the jihadist cause but undermined the American constitution with “faith-based” foreign and domestic policies. Bringing together the hooded prisoners of Abu Ghraib with the cloned stormtroopers of the Star Wars saga, Mitchell draws attention to the figures of faceless anonymity that stalk the ever-shifting and unlocatable “fronts” of the War on Terror. A striking new investigation of the role of images from our foremost scholar of iconology, Cloning Terror will expand our understanding of the visual legacy of a new kind of war and reframe our understanding of contemporary biopower and biopolitics.
