Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major two volume work presents a new decision making tool which enables manufacturers and scientists to undertake life cycle assessment (LCA) of new products from the design and development stages. The methodology allows the environmental consequences of a product to enter into decision making in the same way as traditional commercial parameters such as price, quality etc. Significantly, it is in accordance with international consensus, as defined by SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization). Moreover, the individual steps have been made operational through the creation of a collection of tools for assessment. The books are derived from the Environmental Design of Industrial Products (EDIP) programme organized by the Technical University of Denmark and five leading Danish companies. The project was sponsored by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Confederation of Danish Industries.

This book was released on 1991 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report on the environmental audit of the east bayfront and port industrial area of the City of Toronto is the first to use a comprehensive ecosystem approach to a specific geographical area. The audit was conducted in two phases, with phase I gathering existing information on many aspects of the area, focusing primarily on the physical environment; and phase II including recommendations for key research that should be continued in the future. The technical background papers written for both phases I and II form the basis for this report, which explores the ecosystem approach and the notion of ecosystem integrity. The report examines the physical structures of the study area ecosystem, such as the habitats for humans and other organisms and their historical development; how the ecosystem functions; and the way in which decisions are made about ecosystems, including issues of stewardship and accountability. It then presents some opportunities to overcome obstacles presented by environmental conditions and to improve ecosystem integrity in the area.

Book Synopsis Sustainable Water Use and Management by : Walter Leal Filho
Download or read book Sustainable Water Use and Management written by Walter Leal Filho and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-27 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributing to the growing debate on the need for sustainable water use and management, with concrete examples of new approaches, concepts, arguments, methods and findings which illustrate how this can be achieved, this book will be attractive for large groups of readers familiar with one or more of the themes it tackles, and to the general public. Within this context, the book makes use of many tables and graphics, which bring the many messages together. This approach is intended not only for those working on water matters (e.g. bureaucrats, water managers, policymakers, journalists, etc.) and interested in water management issues and sustainability at large, but also for students of water management, water politics, environmental policy, water economics, water engineering and sustainability studies. Located at the crossroads of two key phenomena: sustainability and water, this book brings forward academic research and discussions on water efficiency, new technologies, and the water-agriculture nexus. It also benefits readers by tackling matters related to trans-boundary cooperation on water (including rainwater) and river-basin management, pricing issues, participatory water management, and the role of women in sustainable water use, amongst others.
