Book excerpt: My tongue will tell the anger of my heart, or else my heart concealing it will break … Kat Francisco hates love. Love killed her friend, drove her mother away, and brought down a curse on her and her sister. So when a stranger comes to town and won’t stop flirting with her, Kat, a powerful witch, isn’t having it. Except … except Tru St. John is so annoyingly clever. She’d rather trade barbs with him than coo sweet nothings at anyone else. But when she finally gives in to her desires, she finds that love is bigger and more complicated than she ever imagined. Tru St. John, a bear shifter, is in town for one reason: to woo Kat Francisco. He’s been promised a meeting with the powerful head of the Carpathian clan, but only if he distracts Kat for a bit to give his college buddy time to finally seal the deal with Bianca, Kat’s little sister. Yet with every encounter with Kat, Tru finds himself wanting not just to distract her, but to keep her forever. He was supposed to make Kat fall for him … but he’s the one falling, and fast. Will the truth bring Kat and Tru together, or drive them apart? Find out in this modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. The Shifters of Verona series is best read in order and contains steamy paranormal romance retellings of the following Shakespeare classics: Romeo & Juliet (Star-Crossed), The Taming of the Shrew (Tamed), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Only Fools Fall) and Much Ado About Nothing (Alter Me). Each book has an HEA with a new featured couple every book.
Book Synopsis Sites of Jewish Memory by : Glenda Abramson
Download or read book Sites of Jewish Memory written by Glenda Abramson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a collection of 16 essays, first published in the Journal of Modern Jewish Studies, that explore Jewish communities in North Africa, Turkey and Iraq. The discussions are located primarily in the 20th century but essays also examine the Jewish community in 16th-century Istanbul, and in early modern Morocco. Topics include traumatic departures of communities from countries of centuries-old Jewish residence, and relocations; pilgrimages to holy sites by Mizrahi Jews in Israel; resonances of Shabbetai Zevi in Turkey and Morocco; "otherness" and the nature of homeland; the Sephardi culinary heritage as realised in the cookbooks of Claudia Roden; sites of memory, such as Kuzguncuk in Turkey; and a controversial view of the exclusions and erasures that Arabized Jews have undergone. In this unique collection a major, but not exclusive, theme is that of the instability of memory, and the attempt to understand the interactions between memory and history as Jews recount their experiences of living in, and often leaving, their past homelands. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Modern Jewish Studies.
Download or read book Domesticated Glory written by Gale Heide and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domesticated Glory critically examines the marriage between Evangelicalism and American politics. The study begins by engaging popular political pundits who wish to transform Christianity into an arm of the state. It then moves to examine some of the theological foundations proposed as support for the church's propping up of American political ideology. Finally, the study provides a more robust politics of the church by outlining how the church might act as a politics in itself. Thus, the church may gain a political voice as church in such a way as to make the world know it stands in need of redemption. This is a far cry from the liberal attempt of the Social Gospel and many modern evangelicals to transform the world into a pseudo-church by cultural or social control. Unlike attempts to engage culture on its own terms in the political arena or to escape politics by avoiding any public testimony to the Gospel, this study lays out a way for the church to act as church in the public square, witnessing to a Gospel concerned primarily about the universe's King and His future Kingdom.
