Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few character education books published in the 21st century have addressed the resource needs of P-12 teachers. It Starts in the Classroom: Character Education for a Better Tomorrow is a “character education tool kit” that enables P-12 teachers, teachers-in-training, counselors, administrators, and coaches to see themselves as the “key” character educators in their schools, classrooms, and community. This book helps bring humanity, student engagement, and other life skills into the classroom that have been proven to increase student academic achievement. Ultimately, It Starts in the Classroom helps teachers see that they are, in fact, really changing the world for the better. This book shows them how to do this not only with their students but with themselves. With the current state of our world, character education is needed now more than ever. Things can get better, but it starts in the classrooms—with the teachers and the students.

Book Synopsis Philosophical Perspectives on Moral and Civic Education by : Colin Macleod
Download or read book Philosophical Perspectives on Moral and Civic Education written by Colin Macleod and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-29 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people place great stock in the importance of civic virtue to the success of democratic communities. Is this hope well-grounded? The fundamental question is whether it is even possible to cultivate ethical and civic virtues in the first place. Taking for granted that it is possible, at least three further questions arise: What are the key elements of civic virtue? How should we cultivate these virtuous dispositions? And finally, how should schools be organized in order to make the education of citizen possible? These interrelated questions are the focus of this collection. By considering these questions from a variety of philosophical perspectives ranging from moral psychology, philosophy of education, and political philosophy, the nine essays assembled here advance our understanding of the challenges we face in trying to shape children to be virtuous citizens.

This book was released on 2022-04-15 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will provide educational leaders a comprehensive set of suggestions, recommendations, and resources related to leading the implementation process for social-emotional learning. We begin with an exploration of the meaning of social and emotional learning—and the various operational definitions currently in use among leading educators and SEL-related organizations. The introductory section of the handbook also reinforces our assertion that SEL and equity are two closely interrelated priorities in education today—perhaps the two singularly most significant priorities we are all facing in our profession. Next, the handbook explores the nature of effective SEL leadership, including priorities for superintendents and other educational leaders, as well as the importance of distributed leadership via networking and the building of communities of practice related to aligning social-emotional learning with student health, nutrition, and academic progress.

Book Synopsis A Theory of Moral Education by : Michael Hand
Download or read book A Theory of Moral Education written by Michael Hand and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-14 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children must be taught morality. They must be taught to recognise the authority of moral standards and to understand what makes them authoritative. But there’s a problem: the content and justification of morality are matters of reasonable disagreement among reasonable people. This makes it hard to see how educators can secure children’s commitment to moral standards without indoctrinating them. In A Theory of Moral Education, Michael Hand tackles this problem head on. He sets out to show that moral education can and should be fully rational. It is true that many moral standards and justificatory theories are controversial, and educators have an obligation to teach these nondirectively, with the aim of enabling children to form their own considered views. But reasonable moral disagreement does not go all the way down: some basic moral standards are robustly justified, and these should be taught directively, with the aim of bringing children to recognise and understand their authority. This is an original and important contribution to the philosophy of moral education, which lays a new theoretical foundation for the urgent practical task of teaching right from wrong.
