Book excerpt: Dans le cadre de cette thèse, nous avons établi ou précisé le devenir atmosphérique de six Composés Organiques Volatils (COV) oxygénés (acroléine, trans-crotonaldéhyde, glycolaldéhyde, hexylène glycol, diacétone alcool et alcool benzylique) issus de la combustion de carburants automobiles, utilisés comme solvants, émis par la végétation ou produits "in-situ" par dégradation d'autres COV. Ce travail a été réalisé dans trois laboratoires permettant l'utilisation de dispositifs expérimentaux complémentaires (MPI-Mayence (Allemagne), LCSR-Orléans, EUPHORE-Valencia (Espagne)). Les sections efficaces d'absorption de l'acroléine, du trans-crotonaldéhyde, du glycolaldéhyde et de la diacétone alcool ont été mesurées par spectrométrie d'absorption dans l'UV-visible. La photolyse des trois aldéhydes a ensuite été étudiée en utilisant les photoréacteurs de Mayence (réacteur en quartz de 44 L) et EUPHORE (chambre souple de 200 m3 à irradiation naturelle), et la Chambre de Simulation Atmosphérique (CSA-chambre souple d'environ 200 L) d'Orléans. Ainsi, la vitesse et les principales voies de photolyse atmosphérique ont été déterminées. Les constantes de vitesse de réaction avec le radical OH ont été déterminées par méthode relative et/ou absolue à Orléans. Nous avons étudié les mécanismes d'oxydation de ces six composés initiée par le radical OH, à Orléans et à EUPHORE. Les analyses ont été réalisées par Spectrométrie Infrarouge à Transformée de Fourier (IRTF), par Chromatographie en phase Gazeuse (CG) avec Détection par Ionisation de Flamme (DIF) et par Spectrométrie de Masse (SM). Les données spectroscopiques, cinétiques et mécanistiques obtenues ont permis de discuter l'impact atmosphérique de ces composés et de leurs produits d'oxydation (capacité à former de l'ozone, effet sur la pollution photo-oxydante et contribution potentielle au bilan des sources globales d'acétone).

In particular, the Lake Baikal area and the Limnological Institute offer splendid opportunities for environmental research which, in part, is already on going. For most participants it was the first time to see the impressive nature of the Lake Baikal region. Hopefully, there will be a chance for a follow-up event in Siberia where researchers from the East and West can again meet and engage in fruitful scientific dialogue. The book contains extended abstracts of the lectures and the poster presentations presented at the NATO ARW "Global Atmospheric Change and its Impact on Regional Air Quality" Irkutsk, Lake Baikal, Russian Federation, August 21-27, 2001. The ARW was composed of 22 oral presentations by key lecturers and 6 additional shorter oral presentations from participants. In a special poster session the 36 poster contributions were presented and discussed. Unfortunately not all contributors submitted extended abstracts, however, to compensate two contributions have been added from 2 participants who were originally invited but were unable to attend.

Book excerpt: Les études présentées dans ce travail contribuent à préciser le devenir troposphérique de COV d'origine anthropique ciblés appartenant à deux familles chimiques distinctes, les composés azotés d'une part et les composés perfluorés d'autre part. Les études ont été menées en collaboration dans différents laboratoires (LCSR, Université de Wuppertal, JRC et EUPHORE). Les techniques expérimentales utilisées sont la spectrométrie d'absorption UV-visible, la photolyse laser puisée couplée à la fluorescence induite par laser (PLP-FIL) et les chambres de simulation atmosphériques des quatre laboratoires équipées de différents dispositifs analytiques (spectromètres infrarouge, chromatographes en phase gazeuse, compteurs de particules... ). Huit composés azotés ont été étudiés : une aminé (la N-méthyl pyrrolidine, NMPL), cinq amides (les Af-méthyl formamide, MF ; JV,jV-diméthyl formamide, DMF ; JV.TV-diméthyl acetamide, DMA ; N-méthyl pyrrolidone, NMP et N-formyl pyrrolidine, FPL) et deux imides (TV-methylsuccinimide, NMS et A/-formylpyrrolidone, FP). La deuxième partie de l'étude a eu pour but de préciser les processus de dégradation atmosphérique de composés perfluorés, des alcools fluorotélomères et des aldéhydes perfluorés. Les différents résultats obtenus indiquent une réduction de la capacité des alcools fluorotélomères à former des acides carboxyliques perfluorés persistants et toxiques.

Book excerpt: Cette thèse porte sur l'étude de dégradation atmosphérique de quelques composés organiques volatils oxygénés par les principaux oxydants atmosphériques OH, Cl, et NO3. Ce travail, comporte, d'une part la détermination des spectres d'absorption UV-Visible des composés hydroxycarbonylés (Hydroxyacétone (HAC), 4-hydroxy-2-butanone (4HB), 3-hydroxy-2-butanone (3HB) et 3-methyl-3-hydoxy-2-butanone (3H3M2B) et d'autre part les mesures cinétiques de la réaction du composé HAC avec le chlore atomique et le radical nitrate. Les réactions entre 4HB et 3H2B avec les radicaux OH et le chlore atomique ont aussi été étudié. Les mesures d'absorption ont été réalisées dans la gamme de température 250 et 363 K à l'aide d'une lampe D2 couplé à un monochromateur. Les valeurs de section obtenues sont utilisées pour calculer la constante de photolyse et d'estimer les durées de vie dans la troposphère des composés étudiés. Les résultats suggèrent que la photolyse pourrait être un processus important pour ces espèces dans la troposphère. Les résultats des études cinétiques, montrent une légère variation des constantes de vitesse avec la température. Nous avons aussi étudié les composés dicétones : 2,4-pentanedione et 2,3-pentanedione. Cette étude porte sur la détermination des spectres d'absorption UV-Visible des composés dicétones et l'étude cinétique de leur réaction avec les radicaux OH en fonction de température. Pour les deux composés une variation de température de plus de 60 % est observée. Les calculs théoriques ont été effectués avec deux programmes différents. Avec logiciel Gaussian 03 nous avons réalisé une optimisation de la géométrie des minima, complexes et états de transition au niveau B3LYP/6-311G++(2d, pd). La méthode composite de haut niveau CBS-QB3 a été utilisée. Et avec le logiciel ChemRate pour les calculs cinétique, et la détermination des constantes de vitesse en phase gazeuse de la réaction étudié en fonction de la température. Les calculs des niveaux d'énergies montrent l'existence d'une étape réactionnelle où il se produit d'un complexe intermédiaire suivi d'une abstraction d'un atome d'hydrogène.

Au cours de ces travaux, de nouveaux outils expérimentaux originaux ont été développés afin d’étudier ces phénomènes sous des angles différents et novateurs, notamment (i) une chambre de simulation atmosphérique rigide couplée à un spectromètre de type cw-CRDS (Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy) pour la détection au sein du réacteur même d’espèces atmosphériques clés (HO2) et (ii) un réacteur à écoulement laminaire avec injecteur mobile pour l’étude des premières étapes de formation des AOS, couplé, entre autres, à un spectromètre de masse à aérosol haute résolution. Les études cinétiques et mécanistiques en phase gazeuse ont contribué à expliciter le mécanisme réactionnel d’oxydation par OH de deux espèces oxygénées majeures de l’atmosphère : l’acétone et l’acide acétique, en particulier en déterminant les sites d’attaque du radical OH sur la molécule oxygénée.
