Book Synopsis New Root Formation in Plants and Cuttings by : M.B. Jackson
Download or read book New Root Formation in Plants and Cuttings written by M.B. Jackson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formation of roots is in some respects one of the least fundamentally understood of all plant functions. Propagation by cuttings is the aspect that will occur first to most gardeners and horticulturists, and it is certainly the most useful application. But any observant traveller in the tropics can notice that some trees have the habit of forming roots in the air. Climbers like Cissus bear long fine strings of roots hanging down. Pandanus trees tend to have stout aerial roots issuing from the bases of the long branches, while the tangle of roots around the trunk of many of the Ficus species is characteristic. In Ficus bengalensis, in particular, stout cylindrical roots firmly embedded in the ground from a height of 3 to 5 meters give support to the long horizontal branches, enabling them to spread still further. In the big old specimen at Adyar near Madras, the spread of these branches all around the tree, each with a strong root growing out every few meters, makes a shaded area under which meetings of almost 5000 people are sometimes held. The history of how the formation of roots on stem cuttings was found to be under hormonal control is worth repeating here.

Book Synopsis Induced Mutation Breeding by : Subodh Kumar Datta
Download or read book Induced Mutation Breeding written by Subodh Kumar Datta and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-24 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an excellent reference collection of the research conducted by different workers on induced mutagenesis, worldwide, for more than 80 years. One can get almost all mutation breeding references at one place. The book gives a coherent and concise account of all the important and relevant aspects related to induced mutagenesis with an emphasis on recent developments in the field of crop improvement. The references have been arranged crop wise and important topic wise which deal with not only classical mutation breeding but also spontaneous mutations, somaclonal variations, nanoparticles, and relevant modern aspects. The book highlights 22 chapters covering holistic information on almost all important components such as radiosensitivity, chromosomal and morphological abnormalities, detection of mutation, management of chimera, present status of mutation etc.) of Mutation Breeding. Chapters are very informative, and one can follow the references on crop and aspect basis since the start of mutation breeding work. This book is an excellent resource for researchers and students for understanding proper applications of induced mutations in crop improvement and biological research. It is of interest and useful to graduate and postgraduate students, horticulturists, floriculturists, agricultural scientists, and breeders related to crop improvement program.
Book Synopsis Radio Wave Propagation by : Chas. R. Burrows
Download or read book Radio Wave Propagation written by Chas. R. Burrows and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radio Wave Propagation: Consolidated Summary Technical Report of the Committee on Propagation of the National Defense Research Committee presents all the scientific information and report of experiments. This book discusses the problems encountered in the propagation of radio waves. Organized into three volumes, this book begins with an overview of the technical developments in the study of tropospheric propagation. This text then outlines the general theory of standard and nonstandard propagation together with descriptions and results of transmission experiments designed to test the theory. Other chapters consider the more unusual problems concerning the radar behavior of targets. This book discusses as well the problems of radio wave propagation in the standard atmosphere at frequencies above 30 megacycles. The final chapter deals with the selection and utilization of local terrain features that affect propagation and the performance of equipment. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and engineers in the field of radio wave propagation.
Book Synopsis Flowering and Vegetative Propagation of Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum Cinerariaefolium Vis.) in Vivo and in Vitro by : S. Roest
Download or read book Flowering and Vegetative Propagation of Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum Cinerariaefolium Vis.) in Vivo and in Vitro written by S. Roest and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of climatic conditions was investigated on flowering behaviour of pyrethrum ( Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium Vis.). At low temperatures high numbers of plants initiated high numbers of flower heads. Both the development of the initiated flower heads and the vegetative development of the plants were stimulated by higher temperatures.
