Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christopher Love (1618-1651) was a fiery and practical Puritan preacher. Christopher Love harvests sweet biblical honey from the word of God concerning the ascension of Jesus Christ, and the coming of Christ again to judgment. Though Love carefully refutes the 1000 year earthly millennial reign of Christ, and the idea of soul sleep, he is more focused on demonstrating the benefits of Christ's ascension and second coming. His main text is John 14:3, "And if I go and prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also." Christ's ascension is a ground of great comfort and great advantage to all his people while they dwell here on earth. Practically, no Christian should be afraid to die, because your Christ is in heaven, and when you die, as Love says, "death is but a trapdoor to let you into endless joy where Christ is."The benefits of Christ's coming to judgment, is his second topic, as much of an unpopular idea as judgment may be. Love says that the benefit of Christ's coming is the particular point Christ means when he says, "and receive you to myself." So if the Spirit that raised up Christ from the dead dwells in you, and you have the graces of the Spirit, that same Spirit shall quicken your mortal bodies. Therefore, the bodies of the elect shall be raised from the dead and received into glory with the soul when Christ returns. This is an exceedingly comforting thought for believers. Christ, at his second coming, receives his elect to himself in body and soul, that they might be forever present where Jesus Christ is in heaven, which is Christ's exhortation to believers, "that where I am there you may be also." That is, they are with Christ in heaven for eternity. Book excerpt: The Millennial Kingdom is a comprehensive biblical and historical treatment of the doctrine of the millennium written for the pastor, students, scholar, or layperson. The three leading millennial views -- postmillennialism, amillennialism, and premillennialism -- are presented in the context of their history, their theology, and their biblical interpretation. Dr. Walvoord presents postmillennialism first and then discusses amillennialism. However, the subject of premillenialism forms the main body of the work. The author introduces premillennialism with a survey of its historical background in the Old and New Testaments and in the history of the church. Its theological setting and methods of interpretation are discussed. A presentation of the character of the millennium concludes the volume.

Book excerpt: A single statement in Luke's Gospel opens an obscure gate to a galactically different view of exactly what happened to Jesus Christ at the end of his time on Earth. Contrary to our common understanding, Jesus’s ascension into heaven happens to be the ultimate proof of his messiahship, so much so it made his enemies race against time to prevent it from being fulfilled at any cost. The real significance of Jesus’s ascension was never made clear in the canonical gospels for it stood stubbornly against the very teachings of the Pauline Church. This book takes you on a short journey to see how Jesus’s ascension was the exact antithesis of the belief about his rising from the dead and to hear about the story of Jesus Christ as it was most likely told by the earliest Judeo-Christians. It will also bring to light the real reason behind the persecution of the early Judeo-Christians, culminating with the murder of James the Righteous: it has everything to do with the early Judeo-Christians’ steadfast belief in Jesus’s ascension into heaven, against what was being publicized about Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's essential to the Gospel, but we rarely talk about it. The good news of Jesus includes his life, death, resurrection, and future return--but what about his ascension? Though often neglected or misunderstood, the ascension is integral to the gospel. In The Ascension of Christ, Patrick Schreiner argues that Jesus' work would be incomplete without his ascent to God's right hand. Not only a key moment in the Gospel story, Jesus' ascension was necessary for his present ministry in and through the church. Schreiner argues that Jesus' residence in heaven marks a turning point in his three-fold offices of prophet, priest, and king. As prophet, Jesus builds the church and its witness. As priest, he intercedes before the Father. As king, he rules over all. A full appreciation of the ascension is essential for understanding the Bible, Christian doctrine, and Christ's ongoing work in the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." (Rev. 3:20) Wouldn't it be great if you could open the door, invite Jesus into your home, and ask Him when He's coming back? All the confusion about the events surrounding Christ's return would vanish as He explains the Scriptures to you. You would have your own "Emmaus Road journey." Like the apostles and first-century disciples, you could say that He opened the eyes of your understanding. That's exactly what this series does by unfolding in an easy-to-follow manner what God's Word shows us and what Jesus taught. Each of the three books focuses on three critical end-time revelations that open the door of our understanding surrounding the events of Christ's return. The New Testament apostles received these keys from Jesus Himself. Over the centuries, these revelations were lost or watered down, leaving us clustered and even fearful. That's not God's will. It's time to let the Word speak for itself with a message of comfort, hope, and victory. The Coming of the Son of Man brings you to your final destination- literally. It shows you what Jesus taught His disciples about the end of this age, the rapture, and the sign when all "these things will be fulfilled." The journey will expose the misidentifcation of key terms that distorted the Church's understanding of Christ's return. Along the way, Jesus's teaching, known as the Olivet Discourse, as well as the book of Revelation will become clear. No more confusion. No more questioning how to prepare. Simply the truth of God's plans and purposes.

However, Christ is the one who not only lived, died, rose, and will come again: he is also currently seated at God's right hand. In this NSBT volume, Peter Orr explores the New Testament witness to Jesus as he is now, the exalted Christ, through the lenses of his identity, his location, and his activity.
