Book excerpt: Christmas from Heaven is the story of the humble beginnings of what became a beacon of hope to a war-torn land, the story of Gail Halvorsen, a young pilot in the US Army Air Corps who was assigned as a cargo pilot to the Berlin Airlift, in which US forces flew much-needed supplies into a Soviet-blockaded Berlin. As he performed his duties, Lt. Halvorsen began to notice the German children gathered by the fences of Tempelhof Air Base. Knowing that they had very little, he one day offered them some chewing gum. From that small act, an idea sprang: He would "bomb" Berlin with candy. Fashioning small parachutes, he and his crew sent them floating down as they approached the Berlin airport, wiggling the wings of their C-54 as a signal to the children that their anticipated cargo would soon arrive. Lt. Halvorsen became known by hundreds, if not thousands, of children in Berlin as "Uncle Wiggly Wings" or "The Candy Bomber." Word soon spread, and donations of candy and other supplies poured in from sympathetic Americans. Lt. Halvorsen's small idea became a great symbol of hope not only to German children in a bombed-out city but to all those who yearned for freedom.

Book excerpt: This book tells the true story of the tragic, unexpected death of my daughter Laura on Christmas Eve. During her twenty-one years of life, I always tried to protect her. Her death made me feel so helpless. I was at the mercy of the unknown. This cancer-eating pain in my heart was destroying me. She was not of earth anymore, so now I began to desperately search all of creation to find her. I could not rest until I had answers. Did I really need to find God? Do angels really come and assist us? Do miracles really happen? Do dreams really take you into another dimension? Was Laura trying to reach out to me beyond the boundaries of death? I was bewildered to see the hustle and bustle of the world survived the death of my daughter. Why did she have to die? Was she alive in another dimension, or was she just dead? A child cannot die and expect a mother to live. Then I attended an apparition of Blessed Mother which changed my life. Through this conversion of faith that I attained, I found answers, and the pieces of the puzzle started to fit together.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Berlin Candy Bomber is the story of how two sticks of gum and one man's kindness to the children of a vanquished enemy grew into an epic of goodwill‚-spanning the globe and touching the hearts of millions in both Germany and America. In June 1948, Russia cut off the flow of food and supplies to Berlin. The Americans, joined by the English and French, began a massive airlift to bring sustenance to the city and thwart the Russian siege. Gail Halvorsen was one of hundreds of U.S. pilots involved in the airlift. While in Berlin, he met a group of children standing by the airport watching the planes. He was impressed to share two sticks of gum with them, and he promised to drop candy the next time he flew to the area. The next day he wiggled the wings of his plane to identify himself and then dropped several small bundles of candy, using parachutes crafted from handkerchiefs. Local newspapers picked up the story. Suddenly, letters addressed to ""Uncle Wiggly Wings"" began arriving as the children requested candy drops in other areas of the city. Enthusiasm spread to America, and candy contributions came from all across the country. The blockade and airlift ended in 1949, but the story of the Candy Bomber lives on-a symbol of human charity, and the candy drops have continued into a new century.

Book excerpt: Who was in the manger that first Christmas morning? Some say he would become a great moral leader. Others, a social critic. Still others view Jesus as a profound philosopher, a rabbi, a feminist, a prophet, and more. Many are convinced he was the divine Son of God. Who was he—really? And how can you know for sure? Consulting experts on the Bible, archaeology, and messianic prophecy, Lee Strobel searches out the true identity of the child in the manger. Join him as he asks the tough, pointed questions you’d expect from an award-winning legal journalist. If Jesus really was God in the flesh, then there ought to be credible evidence, including Eyewitness Evidence—Can the biographies of Jesus be trusted? Scientific Evidence—What does archaeology reveal? Profile Evidence—Did Jesus fulfill the attributes of God? Fingerprint Evidence—Did Jesus uniquely match the identity of the Messiah? The Case for Christmas invites you to consider why Christmas matters in the first place. Somewhere beyond the traditions of the holiday lies the truth. It may be more compelling than you’ve realized. Weigh the facts . . . and decide for yourself.

Work was first, Mishaps were dealt with harshly. Praise was a foreign language. The family suffered cruel scorn, rejection, and deprivation. All the while, Bennet Armstrong hypocritically portrayed himself to others as flawlessly pious.Thankfully, a devout mother bridged the gap, loving her children, telling them Bible stories, teaching them to respect their father, and praying fervently for their safety and salvation.Annie Armstrong's prayers were heard.Joseph came to trust his kind heavenly Father who helped him love and forgive and rise above his circumstances to a life of purpose and peace. This story, sometimes heartrending, sometimes heartening, points to the one true hope for all man's miseries -- Jesus Christ, the true...

Book excerpt: "Ema, give me your hand." These were the words Jesus spoke to Ema on Christmas Eve--the night He straightened her crooked foot, hand, neck, and spine, and restored her mobility. Easter weekend, eighteen years earlier, an ordinary workday turned into a nightmare when Ema McKinley passed out and was left hanging upside down in the storage room. Rather than improving, Ema's body became progressively bent and disfigured. Doctors diagnosed Ema with reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), an extremely painful trauma-induced disease which led to Ema's hand and foot deformities, painful sores, insomnia, gastrological distress, curvature of the neck and spine, heart and lung failure, and permanent confinement to a wheelchair. Once an athletic, powerhouse woman with multiple jobs and volunteer positions, Ema became a modern-day Job who lost everything except her faith and desire to trust God more fully. Ema wrestled with pain, anger, and unforgiveness, but now takes the reader on a healing miracle encounter of Biblical proportions. Rush of Heaven will ignite readers' passion for Jesus and help them walk hand-in-hand with Him through life's darkness. It will open hearts to embrace the impossible. "Jesus gave me this miracle for you too!" -- Ema McKinley

Book excerpt: No matter your beliefs...whether you choose to read this book to your young grieving hearts as "fiction or non-fiction" this is a must read if you or a loved one has experienced a death. The book is simply timeless. ********************* This book is also unlike any other children's book regarding death. While most are about the process of healing & acceptance in the aftermath of losing someone they love. This book gives an opportunity for children to have some comfort for years to come & in particular during the holidays. The author leaves no question that she is a Christian & she wants her grandchildren to truly visualize the concept of her message. Albeit, she also stresses the main objective is to help grieving hearts; not change someone's views of religion. She has respect to the diversity of others views. With all that being said, this book does in fact focus on heaven. With an open mind, she wants readers to consider the literal definition of Heaven. The first death she can remember was at 9 years old & her grandfather passed away two days before Christmas. He was her Mom's father & it changed Christmas for many years to come as her Mom & others continued to mourn in particular during the holidays each year. She states that her worst death she witnessed her children suffer was that of her nephew, (sister's son) who was 18 yrs. old on December 7, 1995. Despite her faith & attempt to be positive it took everything her family had to function through Christmas that year and years to come. Five years later Spilman lost her father right before Easter & nine years after that her sister, who was 56 yrs. old, passed away. It was right as the holidays began before Thanksgiving. She needed a heart transplant. She left behind 5 beautiful grandchildren with her younger son. Four years later, Spilman's mom was gravely ill during Christmas and passed away two weeks later. The little ones in the family began to ask more questions. Are they sad at Christmas? Are they with Samson (Spilman's late 10 yr. old Newfoundland) in heaven? It is all too familiar to hear these fears & questions. ************************ While there are many holidays observed throughout the year, she chose select ones to express in her book. The goal is to attempt to give comfort with some visuals by adding a little magic for their heavy hearts. Moreover, she believes her book's message is to open the door for children to open their minds and create happiness for whatever holidays they may celebrate That is why her book can be an inspiration to many. Book excerpt: This latest cantata collaboration by Mark Hayes and John Parker is an innovative presentation of the beloved Christmas story. The inspired music covers the dynamic spectrum from poignant and introspective prayers for God's mercy to angelic proclamations of God's majesty and glory. It is a unique blend of new Christmas anthems with favorite yuletide carols. The distinctive use of familiar Latin phrases in each selection serves as a common thread throughout the work and capitalizes on a current trend in many churches-reaching back to embrace ancient worship. The allusion to aspects of nature in each anthem underscores the overall theme and uniquely highlights the familiar progression of the Christmas story which includes the angels, shepherds, Mary and the Wise Men. The optional inclusion of congregation on familiar carols along with Audra Parker's fresh narration makes this a joyous Christmas worship experience for choir and congregation alike!
