Book excerpt: Many people today would list many different things as being man’s dilemma—such things as health problems, unemployment, poverty, crime, war, and so on. Each, of course, is a problem found in every society, excluding none. One could say man’s dilemma is universal and they would be correct. However, each of the things listed above are actually the result of man’s dilemma, not the cause. The cause is found in man’s depravity. In that depravity, every un-regenerated human being sets his own standard as to his or her conduct of life. Man has rejected the absolute standard of his creator and as a result is alienated toward not only God, but from one another. Man has no solution for this and therein lays the dilemma. God, on the other hand, has the solution; it is found in His provision, the Lord Jesus Christ. In the pages of this work the author considers man’s dilemma God’s solution from eleven different perspectives. Each chapter is a study in itself, but fits nicely as one completed work.

Our society places such faith in empirical reason, historical progress, and heartfelt emotion that it’s easy to wonder: Why should anyone believe in Christianity? What role can faith and religion play in our modern lives? In this thoughtful and inspiring new book, pastor and New York Times bestselling author Timothy Keller invites skeptics to consider that Christianity is more relevant now than ever. As human beings, we cannot live without meaning, satisfaction, freedom, identity, justice, and hope. Christianity provides us with unsurpassed resources to meet these needs. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Christians, we have real hope in Jesus that we have been called to share with others. But how we share that hope makes a difference. In a world that rejects everything we believe, we face a dilemma: how do we walk closely with God without caving in to pressure or alienating those we want to reach? In this six-session video Bible study, Chris Hodges looks at the lives of both Daniel and Jesus, showing how we can stand for our biblical beliefs without being hostile or insulting to others. We can stand up for God's truth in a morally corrupt culture–while still loving others–because the goal is never about winning the argument but about winning hearts. As Jesus demonstrated, when we connect with others before we correct them, we can handle the hard questions without compromising God's grace or truth. Chris offers fresh insights and practical ideas to encourage Christians struggling with their cultural reality to hold God's standards high and to keep his grace deep–just as Jesus did, and just as his followers today are called to do. The Daniel Dilemma Study Guide includes video discussion questions, Bible exploration, and personal study and reflection materials for in-between sessions. Sessions include: In the World but Not of It Identity Theft You Are What You Worship Who's the Boss? Divided, Distracted, and Disturbed What the World Needs Now Designed for use with the Daniel Dilemma Video Study (sold separately).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people go through life with questions unanswered. With so many religions and opinions floating around it is no wonder than people are confused and do not know what to believe. The vast majority adhere to their present belief as they were brought up with that particular faith but this can never guarantee that it is, in fact, the correct one. After all they cannot all differ and still be correct. The situation is crucial as if God does exist then He has the answers and if He does not our beliefs are in vain. Yet with eventual death waiting on the side lines of the playing out of our lives then obviously the wise thing would be to get to know the truth, if that is possible to do. Blind hope and blind faith in a person, or system, is like burying our heads in the sand and waiting to see if we, by pure luck, end up in a happy life after death. But what if we are wrong? What if the answer was there all along but was missed it due to ego, pride, stubbornness, procrastination, earthly ambition, laziness or any other thing that kept us from really examining the evidence for a loving, caring and solution giving God. If God is for real then, as our Creator, then is logical for Him to communicate with us, His creation, and supply us with the facts we need to know. Does He exist? Does he care about us? Is there anything He requires from us to fulfill our purpose? Will we continue in some form of life after death, and if so, are there opinions as to how we will fare in it. William Killen Wright has confronted these issues in his new book Man's Dilemma - God's Solution. He methodically leads his readers through various stages of inquiry. He begins by showing the logic and need of God, that there is a source of absolute truth as revealed by God in His written, the needed starting point of a spiritual birth provided through the sacrificial death of God's only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, help to start living the new life, how to get to know our new Father better and how to prepare to finely meet God. It is hoped that this book will supply sought-after answers that many seek and be a blessing to all who read it.

Book excerpt: The Christian Leadership Dilemma addresses how Christians can live in newness of life above victimization, judgment, and confusion in a world that seems to be barreling forward on a collision course with the very truth, indeed, the only truth that will make people truly free. Both freedom and bondage are in the heart, and both are below the surface of the noise of life. The Christian Leadership Dilemma addresses the systemic root causes of this dilemma that stems from Christian leaders who are diverted from their heavenly calling through grace and instead adopt a worldly approach to Christianity. It notes quality leaders are not to lord over or dominate followers by leveraging power to control them but rather to serve, be helpers of their joy, and be good examples. It also addresses how to settle any issues in the Christian community and how to respond to conflict from within or without the community. With this foundation, The Christian Leadership Dilemma clarifies what true “ministry” is and the necessity of obeying God rather than men when it comes to standing upon the Christian’s God-given justification through the faith of Jesus Christ. At times, those who have endeavored over the centuries to bring clarity and reform to the Christian community have been accused and maligned because they disturbed the status quo. The Christian Leadership Dilemma is intended to echo those voices of reform resounding as the single voice of a choir calling to who truly desire to know how to navigate the Christian experience successfully, particularly in times of leadership crises.

Book excerpt: Today's modern technology and scientific knowledge contradicts all religious dogma created in ancient times by ignorant and superstitious people who had just learned to write. Modern science can test the strength of one's faith and it can make him a skeptic, causing him to discard the religious beliefs of his family for generations past. Deep religious experiences (or self-induced delusions) can be explained by physical, psychological, biological and medical sciences today. "Evil" or "Sin" is the result of social and mental conditions and can be corrected with education and medication today and without the help of an imaginary "God". To quote Mark Twain "Faith is to believe in what you know for sure is not true". The GOD Dilemma is an unscientific investigation to justify believing in religion today and in particular the Christian faith. It argues that scientific and logical discussions about religion and the existence of God are futile; however, we cannot stop thinking about it. Humans are (maybe) born with a faith in God's existence and with a conscience that tells them which is morally and ethically right and which is not. Author Thomas used to believe in religion, God, and Christianity through his teenage years, but even if he learned to ignore it during his 50 adult years, he never consciously discarded his Christian faith. He now shares his investigations and attempts to believe in Jesus Christ once again, despite today's knowledge of the universe and evolution and by ignoring the sanctimonious behavior of fundamentalist US Christians. In the international scene, Thomas believes that the US wars since WWII cannot be justified by the life and the teachings of Jesus Christ. There is an underlying moral claim by fundamentalist Christian Americans that its actions are justified by Jesus and Christianity. The new phenomenon called "Christian Zionism" which requires the removal of Palestinians from their homeland to create and expand Israel to enable the second coming of Christ, categorically contradicts the teachings of Jesus in the four Gospels. Zionism is based on the Old Testament Bible (OTB) and Revelations in the New Testament both of which are scientifically ridiculous. The OTB is also historically questionable (about a God interacting with his only chosen people in Middle East) and morally criminal (God sponsored and assisted armed robbery and genocide to create Israel ancient and modern) by today's legal and ethical standards. Why has the life and teachings of Jesus Christ not produced universal love and non-violence among Christians? Why are American Christians the most active supporters of (or not speaking out against) the wars, bombing and destruction by the USA since WWII? Are Ashkenazi European Jews really the descendants of Semitic slaves from Egypt? What were the reasons for anti-Semitism and the Holocaust in "Christian" Europe of the past? Why is the European Union and the US punishing the Palestinians for the Holocaust crimes in Europe? Can God's orders in the Bible be legally used by the United Nations to recreate Israel again in the 20th century after 3000 years by getting rid of Palestinians? The book seeks to inform and provoke critical thinking of the readers through this investigation into religion and God and, in particular, the violent, intolerant and self-righteous behavior of Christians for centuries past and even in today's enlightened age using the source of the Christian religion the Bible.

Thankfully, the Lord is always walking beside us to help us both understand and handle our dilemmas, even when they are more complex than we ever imagined. In a biblical commentary, Pastor Conrad De La Torres provides insight into the greatest dilemmas that have been experienced on Earth and with significant eternal ramifications. Shared with the intent of helping believers understand in greater depth the dilemmas of the Adams and then apply the knowledge to their own lives, Pastor Torres examines the trials faced by the two Adams of the Bible—Adam himself and Jesus Christ—as they exist in two separate gardens, realize they are in love with two women, face two dilemmas, and ultimately make two decisions with historical implications. The Dilemma of the Adams is a spiritual commentary that shares the true story of two men in the Bible who faced dilemmas and decisions with everlasting consequences.

Book excerpt: Modern-day Christians often bring their own presuppositions and assumptions to the reading of the Bible, not realizing how deeply their understanding of Christ's life and teachings is affected by a 21st-century worldview. In Understanding Jesus, author Joe Amaral delves deep into Jewish history, societal mores, and cultural traditions, closing the gap created by geographical distance and over two thousand years of history. Using a chronological approach to the life of Christ, he guides the reader through significant events such as Jesus' birth, baptism, and crucifixion, pointing out illuminating details that that the Western mind would normally miss. Amaral's premise is that to understand Jesus, we must understand the time and place in which he was born, the background from which he drew his illustrations, and the audience he spoke to. Throughout the book he explores specific terms, places, and events for their significance and shows how they add richness and meaning to the text. Topics include the connection between Jesus and John the Baptist, the annual Feasts and why they are important to modern Christianity, Jewish customs such as foot-washing, clean and unclean foods, paying tribute to political governments, and the significance of various miracles. In Understanding Jesus, Amaral draws back the curtain on a way of life that existed during the reign of the Caesars, and in doing so, reveals truths about the way we live more than two thousand years later, half a world away.

Book excerpt: The genre of the book is effectively spiritual while at the same time philosophical and should be read with this interest in mind. It has some 'heavy' themes and would best suit an adult reader but as easily could be appreciated by the curious teenager. The book attempts to unlock some of the 'great mysteries' of the world addressing difficult subjects such as 'the Jews', a place called Hell, what is the Church? Homosexuality, rebellion and sin. It directly addresses the mystery surrounding our spiritual relationship with our creator and the eternal destination of the soul. It also extends to orthodox themes such as truth, injustice and love.

Book excerpt: Christ's divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness. —2 Peter 1:3 Pure Christianity needs no embellishment whatsoever. We find complete sufficiency in Christ and His provision for our needs. But too many Christians have bought in to the notion that all the spiritual resources we gain at the moment of salvation are not adequate to meet the real needs in today's complex world. So they look for something more—an emotionally exciting and self-edifying experience not found in God's Word. This failure to understand the sufficiency of Christ has opened the door to all kinds of worldy influences, causing many modern believers to mix biblical truths with seemingly helpful man-made methods such as mysticism and psychology. As a result, they wallow in a watered-down, pseudo-Christanity that has been drained of its vitality, effectiveness, and security. In this book John MacArthur exposes the main ways Christians have displaced their spiritual resources and explains how to avoid making the same error. It will make you newly aware of how completely God provides—and give you a renewed understanding of what it means to be "complete in Christ."
