Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique, adaptable model for meditation practice that ties together elements of the various Buddhist traditions The deceptively simple three-phase method presented in Three Steps to Awakening is a meditation practice that can be worked with for a lifetime. Larry Rosenberg looks to Zen, Insight Meditation, and the teachings of J. Krishnamurti to find three kinds of meditation that anyone can do and that complement each other in a wonderful way: (1) breath awareness, (2) breath as anchor, and (3) choiceless awareness. Having the three methods in one’s repertoire gives one meditation resources for any life situation. In a time of stress, for example, one might use breath awareness exclusively. Or on an extended retreat, one might find choiceless awareness more appropriate. The three-step method has been taught to Larry’s students at the Cambridge Meditation Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for many years. After teaching the three-step method, Larry goes on to show how to bring the awareness gained in meditation to the world off the cushion, into relationships and into all areas of daily life.

Book Synopsis Choiceless Awareness by : Amir Sabzevary
Download or read book Choiceless Awareness written by Amir Sabzevary and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009-07 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How, according to Jiddu Krishnamurti, are 'psychological freedom' and 'choiceless awareness' defined and obtained? Experience, knowledge, thought, and memory lead to 'psychological imprisonment' out of which fear, violence and loneliness grow. How does one liberate oneself from this psychological bondage? By means of descriptive analysis, the concepts of freedom and responsibility, time, thought and memory, authority, fear and meditation are rigorously examined in relation to 'psychological freedom' and 'choiceless awareness.' In the final analysis, it is found that 'psychological freedom' is obtained in the absence of internal authorities such as knowledge, thoughts, beliefs and memories, as well as external authorities such as books, teachers, education, culture, organizations and religion. Once 'psychological freedom' has been obtained, then choiceless awareness, which is a clear and undistorted perception of what is present, is born. A clear and undistorted perception of a situation, according to Krishnamurti, constitutes the very essence of attention, and indeed, meditation. This work provides readers an insightful and timely commentary on Krisnamurti's most fundamental ideas.

Book Synopsis Discover The Immeasurable by : Jiddu Krishnamurti
Download or read book Discover The Immeasurable written by Jiddu Krishnamurti and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2014-02-28 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly sixty years, J. Krishnamurti, one of the most distinguished voices of modern times, tirelessly traveled the world lecturing on the need to know the mind, and earned the respect of countless people. Dozens of books document his talks both in the US and in Europe. Discover the Immeasureable contains a series of six lectures given by J. Krishnamurti in the Fall of 1956. It includes the original questions from his listeners, together with his insightful and practical answers. These lectures, as all of the great philosopher’s work, are based on the need for radical change in understanding our own minds. With the term “immeasurable,” Krishnamurti is urging us to explore “what is beyond the beliefs and theories, beyond the sentimental hopes and intellectual assertions [and] mere projections of the mind” that determine our lives. He calls us to passionate action in experiencing life directly, since “only direct experience has validity.” To directly experience what is immeasurable will have an extraordinary significance in our lives, even to the point of realizing what is God, or what is truth. The practice of knowing oneself is not an esoteric one, the author asserts. What we discover, with focused attention, is that truth is revealed in every relationship and at every moment. Krishnamurti advocates the practice of meditation not as some otherworldly transport, but as the method for initiating self-knowledge. Through meditation the mind becomes stilled, without demands. In this state, he speculates, “that which is not measurable comes into being.” Attachment to any belief undermines the search for truth. A book for seekers of wisdom & truth from any tradition ... or no tradition. For readers of J. Krishnamurti’s previous books, and for bookstores and libraries—university & public—everywhere.

Book excerpt: One of the great teachers of the twentieth century shows a more intimate side in this collection of letters, written to a young person who was suffering in both body and mind. "Life is a razor's edge and one has to walk on that path with exquisite care and with pliable wisdom" - J Krishnamurti Between 1948 and the early 1960s, Krishnamurti was easily accessible and many people came to him. On walks, in personal meetings, through letters, the relationships blossomed. He wrote the following letters to a young friend who came to him wounded in body and mind. The letters, written between June 1948 and March 1960, reveal a rare compassion and clarity: the teaching and healing unfold; separation and distance disappear; the words flow; not a word is superfluous; the healing and teaching are simultaneous.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until the end of his life at the age of ninety, Krishnamurti-the world teacher-traveled the world speaking as a private person. The rejection of all spiritual and psychological authority, including his own, is a fundamental theme. A major concern is the social structure and how it conditions the individual. The emphasis in his talks and writings is on the psychological barriers that prevent clarity of perception. Because his subject is all-embracing, the Collected Works which are in 18 Volumes, are of compelling interest. Within his talks in any one year. Krishnamurti was not able to cover the whole range of his vision, but broad amplifications of particular themes are found throughout these volumes. In them he lays the foundations of many of the concepts he used in later years. The Collected Works contain Krishnamurti`s previously published talks, discussions, answers to specific questions, and writings for the years 1933 through 1967. They are an authentic record of his teachings, taken from transcripts of verbatim shorthand reports and tape recordings. Jiddu Krishnamurti was born in 1895 of Brahmin Parents in South India. At the age of fourteen he was proclaimed the coming World Teacher by Annie Besant, then President of the Theosophical Society, an international organization that emphasized the unity of world religions. Mrs. Besant adopted the boy and took him to England, where he was educated and prepared for his coming role. In 1911 a new worldwide organization was formed with Krishnamurti as its head, solely to prepare its members for hisadvent as World Teacher. In 1929, after many years of questioning himself and the destiny imposed upon him, Krishnamurti disbanded this organization, saying: Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path. My only concern is to set men absolutely, unconditionally free. Until he end of his life at the age of ninety, Krishnamurti traveled the world speaking as a private person. The rejection of all spiritual and psychological authority, including his own, is a fundamental theme. A major concern is the social structure and how it conditions the individual. The emphasis in his talks and writings is on the psychological barriers that prevent clarity of perception. In the mirror of relationship, each of us can come to understand the content of his own consciousness, which is common to all humanity. We can do this, not analytically, but directly in a manner Krishnamurti describes at length. In observing this content we discover within ourselves the division of the observer and what is observed. He points out that this division, which prevents direct perception, is the root of human conflict. His central vision did not waver after 1929, but Krishnamurti strove for the rest of his life to make his language even more simple and clear. There is a development in his exposition. From year to year he used new terms and new approaches to his subject, with different nuances. Because his subject is all embracing, the Collected Works are of compelling interest. Within his talks in any one year, Krishnamurti was not able to cover the whole range of his vision, but broad amplifications of particular themes are found throughout these volumes.
