Book excerpt: Excerpt from Choice Iris: Spring 1925 Prices are net for one plant. No discount for quantity, as these prices are low - considering the large rhizomes I send' Iris prices used to be judged by the introducer's idea of his own introductions. In this list they are judged mostly by 1914 impressions gained when about 1000 varieties bloomed and the varieties were judged one against the other regardless of the introducer, and many much-boosted ones were inferior to older or cheaper ones. A fast increaser also reduces price. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of the Iris Tms work has been written with two principal aims in view. I have endeavoured, in the first place, to give all the useful information upon culture that is available, and, secondly, to rovide an easy and efficient means for the verification ofp names and for the naming of plants. In the verification of names that happen to be correct there should be no difficulty, but with regard to the naming of plants, it must be remembered that Irises are exceedingly variable. They hybridise both in the garden and in a wild state, and intermediates, or forms not agreeing precisely with any description, are at least liable to be met with. I still hope, however, that naming will be effected in most cases without difficulty. By dividing into small, easily understood groups, and by the construction of keys, I have hoped to provide a Special facility. Download or read book All Grown Up written by Jami Attenberg and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A national bestseller from the New York Times best-selling author of The Middlesteins, All Grown Up is a wickedly funny novel about a thirty-nine-year-old single, childfree woman who defies convention as she seeks connection. Who is Andrea Bern? When her therapist asks the question, Andrea knows the right things to say: she’s a designer, a friend, a daughter, a sister. But it’s what she leaves unsaid—she’s alone, a drinker, a former artist, a shrieker in bed, captain of the sinking ship that is her flesh—that feels the most true. Everyone around her seems to have an entirely different idea of what it means to be an adult: her best friend, Indigo, is getting married; her brother—who miraculously seems unscathed by their shared tumultuous childhood—and sister-in-law are having a hoped-for baby; and her friend Matthew continues to wholly devote himself to making dark paintings at the cost of being flat broke. But when Andrea’s niece finally arrives, born with a heartbreaking ailment, the Bern family is forced to reexamine what really matters. Will this drive them together or tear them apart? Told in gut-wrenchingly honest, mordantly comic vignettes, All Grown Up is a breathtaking display of Jami Attenberg’s power as a storyteller, a whip-smart examination of one woman’s life, lived entirely on her own terms.
