Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every time I visited the Citadel, I would imagine what I could do to enhance its glory and bring attention to its soul, says artist Dale Chihuly of his recent project in Jerusalem. In July 1999, Chihuly's grandest and most ambitious undertaking opened at the Citadel, and will remain there for a year. Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem 2000 serves as a focal point for the city's millennium celebration. This volume highlights 14 major installations commissioned by the Tower of David Museum of the History of Jerusalem. The exhibition is made up of more than 10,000 pieces of glass, blown in France, Japan, the Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, and the United States. Within the walls of the Citadel, Chihuly unexpectedly married ancient and modern forms, animating the stone architecture with glass. Mediterranean sunlight illuminates the Blue Tower, the red and yellow Spears, the Moon, and the Crystal Mountain. Chihuly has transformed the Citadel, once a defensive fortress, into a garden of colour and celebration. Commentary by William Warmus.

Book excerpt: Bound like an artist's sketchbook this book documents the culmination of this amazing artistic odyssey that took the artist from his Seattle Boathouse hot shop to Nuutajarvi, Finland; Waterford, Ireland; Monterrey, Mexico; and finally Venice to blow glass. In the factories in those locations, Chihuly and his team of American glass blowers worked with native artisans more accustomed to making functional objects than art. Together they created the 14 chandeliers that graced the campos and canals of Venice for a remarkable time in September 1996. In her essay Dana Self, curator of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, muses on the relationship of Chihuly's glass and 'The Spectacle of Beauty'. She concludes that Chihuly's fantastical explorations demonstrate that beauty does produce a meaningful experience of the world. Writer William Warmus chronicles the culmination of this two-year project with his diary entries. Full-colour photographs record for readers the installations as they were assembled. An extensive chronology traces the artist's career.

In this new book, stunning images of the Cylinders are accompanied by essays from art and literary critics which frame the history and significance of both Chihuly's work and the work of Joyce.

Book excerpt: This book chronicles four decades of Dale Chihuly's work on paper, a dynamic collection that is a fascinating study of variety. Many of the drawings are drenched in thick, bold layers of colour. Others are more elusive -- just a hint of form sketched with a fistful of pencils or a confidently manipulated charcoal. Over the years his style has evolved, becoming more abstract and more elaborate, and his drawings, in some cases, have become much larger. But there are no rules; a technique that Chihuly favoured a decade before may resurface again. The excitement of Chihuly's work on paper is in its unpredictability, and that in two dimensions Chihuly is free to let his grandest schemes come to fruition. Above all, Chihuly's work on paper revels in the monumental creativity that is essentially Chihuly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book is needed because it aims to improve the care of Bipolar clients while strengthening the clinical practices of non-MD psychotherapists. What is different is the proposal that psychotherapists manage the overall care of Bipolar clients. The increased number of publications about Bipolar over the past decades has enhanced the recognition of Bipolar. As many as 16 million individuals in the US may have a Bipolar episode at some point. Psychiatrists have traditionally managed Bipolar clients but there are not enough psychiatrists and they generally spend only 10 to 15 minutes every one to six months with their clients—often not enough time to recognize oncoming Bipolar episodes. Therapeutic strategy has changed from treating acute episodes to postponing next episodes. Psychotherapists see their clients for 50 minutes every week and are in a better position to recognize developing episodes. Psychotherapists do not prescribe and medicines are usually needed along with psychotherapy for best results. This book encourages psychotherapists to vet and collaborate with prescribers in caring for the therapists’ Bipolar clients. Lacking in the psychotherapists’ armamentarium for treating Bipolar clients is education regarding diagnostic signs, symptoms, and treatment including the most productive medications. This book provides therapists and clients the needed information and encourages academic departments and other psychotherapy programs to institute training about Bipolar Disorders.
