Book Synopsis L’Apocalypse des animaux (1 Hen 85-90): une propagande militaire? by : Daniel Assefa
Download or read book L’Apocalypse des animaux (1 Hen 85-90): une propagande militaire? written by Daniel Assefa and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-09-30 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the majority of scholars, the Animal Apocalypse is a militant text, a piece of pro-Maccabean propaganda. This text, however, develops theological reflections that are distinctly different from a justification of an armed struggle. Its themes are even incompatible with the Maccabean movement. It is impossible to condemn the Second Temple and, at the same time, mobilise people for a fight in order to purify that very Temple. After dealing with text-critical issues, this work challenges the thesis that the text is military propaganda through the use of narrative and historical approaches. The analyses, besides proposing a new way of a studying an apocalypse, spell out the peculiarity and the significance of the theology of the Animal Apocalypse in connection with the biblical history of Israel and the theology of the Qumran community.
Book Synopsis Quant a la Nature de L'Homme by : John M. Allen
Download or read book Quant a la Nature de L'Homme written by John M. Allen and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-11 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the depths of human nature in the light of biblical teaching, the author carves a straight path through the tangled undergrowth of Greek Gnosticism that has infiltrated the Church today. Startling in its simplicity, this book takes the reader to the core of the problem, clearly outlining the issues at stake and dealing with them uncompromisingly. Are children to blame for their parents' sin? Why does man sin? Does a Christian have a dual nature? Are we born bad? Does our nature compel us to commit certain actions, whether bad or good? What is the relationship between a twentieth-century Christian and Adam? Does God see Jesus when He looks at the Church? What is the truth regarding unconditional eternal security? Can a Christian be lost? Answering these questions and many others purely from the Bible, the author brings light and hope on this most misunderstood of all subjects - the nature of man.

This book was released on 2000 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traumatic experiences of persecution and genocide have changed traditional views of literature. The discussion of historical truth versus aesthetic autonomy takes an unexpected turn when confronted with the experiences of the victims of the Holocaust, the Gulag Archipelago, the Cultural Revolution, Apartheid and other crimes against humanity. The question is whether - and, if so, to what extent - literary imagination may depart from historical truth. In general, the first reactions to traumatic historical experiences are autobiographical statements, written by witnesses of the events. However, the second and third generations, the sons and daughters of the victims as well as of the victimizers, tend to free themselves from this generic restriction and claim their own way of remembering the history of their parents and grandparents. They explore their own limits of representation, and feel free to use a variety of genres; they turn to either realist or postmodernist, ironic or grotesque modes of writing.
