Book Synopsis In Japan the Crickets Cry by : Ronald Clements
Download or read book In Japan the Crickets Cry written by Ronald Clements and published by Monarch Books. This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steve had suffered under the brutal regime of his Japanese guards. He and his classmates at Chefoo school in China ' for the most part the children of missionaries ' had been interned in 1942. Resentment of the Japanese was a way of life. Could he possibly pray for them? Painfully, reluctantly, he found that he could, and his prayers sank deep. At the end of the war the China Inland Mission was seeking young men willing to go to Japan . Steve trained, packed and went. Thus began Steve's lifelong love of Japan. Over the years he would tussle with a culture where courtesy wins over truth; where suicide is an honourable choice; where to be foreign is to be forever alien. Time after time he would encounter miracles of healing, provision, and protection as God looked after him, his wife Evelyn and their growing family. In a resistant culture he would see many come to Christ. This is the story of how a boy's grudging prayers were remarkably answered.

Download or read book Shandong written by Paul Hattaway and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 2022-06-28 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God’s Mighty Acts in China Many have heard of the extraordinary explosion of Christianity throughout China in recent decades. Few, however, know how it occurred. Paul Hattaway draws on thirty years’ experience in China and numerous interviews with church leaders to provide insights into how the living God brought about the largest revival in the history of Christianity. In a narrative full of jaw-dropping stories, The China Chronicles documents the acts of the Holy Spirit throughout China, where phenomenal growth has occurred in the furnace of intense persecution. Hattaway starts his account with Shandong Province, which is home to almost one hundred million people. On multiple occasions, God has revived his Church in Shandong by pouring out his Spirit with great power and grace. As a result, Shandong today could be rightfully called “China’s Revival Province.” The China Chronicles Series: Book 1: Shandong Book 2: Guizhou Book 3: Zhejang Book 4: Tibet Book 5: Henan Book 6: Xinjiang
Book Synopsis China’s Foreign Places by : Robert Nield
Download or read book China’s Foreign Places written by Robert Nield and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the imperial powers—principally Britain, the United States, Russia, France, Germany and Japan—signed treaties with China to secure trading, residence and other rights in cities on the coast, along important rivers, and in remote places further inland. The largest of them—the great treaty ports of Shanghai and Tientsin—became modern cities of international importance, centres of cultural exchange and safe havens for Chinese who sought to subvert the Qing government. They are also lasting symbols of the uninvited and often violent incursions by foreign powers during China’s century of weakness. The extraterritorial privileges that underpinned the treaty ports were abolished in 1943—a time when much of the treaty port world was under Japanese occupation. China’s Foreign Places provides a historical account of the hundred or more major foreign settlements that appeared in China during the period 1840 to 1943. Most of the entries are about treaty ports, large and small, but the book also includes colonies, leased territories, resorts and illicit centres of trade. Information has been drawn from a wide range of sources and entries are arranged alphabetically with extensive illustrations and maps. China’s Foreign Places is both a unique work of reference, essential for scholars of this period and travellers to modern China. It is also a fascinating account of the people, institutions and businesses that inhabited China’s treaty port world.

Book Synopsis China's Millions (Classic Reprint) by : James Hudson Taylor
Download or read book China's Millions (Classic Reprint) written by James Hudson Taylor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-11 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from China's Millions NE thousand eight hundred and ninety! Thoughtless indeed should we be if we could enter upon the last ten years of this century without a solemn feeling Of awe. It has been a wonderful century, the most wonderful on record. Progress in many ways has been very rapid, and the world seems going on at an almost maddening rate. Steam has superseded the slow and cumbrous posting system but even steam is not quick enough for our correspondence, for which the telegraph and the telephone are increasingly in request. Parts Of the world that were unknown at the beginning Of the century are now linked to us by the electric cable. Roman Catholic countries Of Europe and long closed heathen empires, like India and China, have been marvellously opened to the missionary. But Satan still reigns the god of this world is not dethroned. Increasing knowledge of science has increased the fearful power of our weapons Of destruction, and the armed millions Of Continental Europe indicate but too plainly that man fears man no less, and loves man no more, than when the century commenced. Who can foresee the events and the changes which a few years may now bring should our lord delay His coming We truly live in perilous times, whether we look at things political or things religious. Never was there a time in which it was more important to walk with god and to abide in the secret place Of the most hrch, nor in which it was so urgent to be up and doing; for our master is at the door, while the Church is only now beginning to wake up to the realisation that the work of evangelisation for which she was left in the world is yet but barely commenced. Book Synopsis Battle for Beijing, 1858–1860 by : Harry Gelber
Download or read book Battle for Beijing, 1858–1860 written by Harry Gelber and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ‘battle for Beijing’ is universally – and quite wrongly – believed to have been about opium. This book argues that it was about freedom to trade, Britain’s demands for diplomatic equality, and French demands for religious freedom in China. Both countries agreed that their armies, which repeatedly prevailed over Chinese ones that were numerically superior, would stay out of Beijing itself, but were infuriated by China’s imprisonment, torture and death of British, French and Indian negotiators. At the same time, the British and French also helped the empire to battle rebels and to pocket port and harbour dues. They steered carefully between their political and trading demands, and navigated the danger that undue stress would make China’s fragile government and empire fall apart. If it did, there would be no one to make any kind of agreement with; much of East Asia would be in chaos and Russian power would soon expand. Battle for Beijing, 1858–1860 offers fresh insights into the reasons behind the actions and strategies of British authorities, both at home and in China, and the British and French military commanders. It goes against the widely accepted views surrounding the Franco-British conflict, proposing a bold new argument and perspective.
