Book excerpt: A Self-Proclaimed MessiahDownload for FREE on Kindle Unlimited + Free Bonus Inside!Read on your Computer, Mac, Smartphone, Kindle Reader, iPad, or Tablet.Did Charles Manson suffer from emotional disorders which were genetically inherited from parents who themselves lived on the margins of society, or were nurtured in the environment to which he was exposed? He shared many of the characteristics we associate with cult leaders, especially those whose actions are ultimately made to further their own needs and desires. Charles Manson was a complex character; delusional, charismatic, intelligent and able to exploit the trends of his time. He brought a counter-culture to a counter culture; he and his followers became hippies whose actions opposed the values of that war opposing, peace-loving group. Inside you'll read about Death No Name Maddox: The Birth of a Mass Murderer Influences Cult Murder and Imprisonment And much more!Like many other cult leaders, Charles Manson established fear in the minds of his followers. He used quasi-religious ideas to set up the concept of an apocalyptic war, although this was based on race rather than religious dogma. Charles Manson is dead now, recently succumbing to the most every day of symptoms, a heart attack. No passing in the flames of evil or martyred on the cross of his cause. His manner of death was no doubt an anti-climax to a life lived more in myth than in reality. His tale is not yet complete. Perhaps it never will be, such is the continuing fascination he provokes. But here is his story.

Book excerpt: Charles Manson - Helter Skelter and Beyond is a biography of Charles Manson, the infamous convict charged with murder and conspiracy to murder in the late 1960's. Manson formed and led the "Manson Family" to heinously commit the Tate-LaBianca murders. Helter Skelter, a reference to a Beatles song, is forever connected to the Manson murders; but by his own account, Helter Skelter was a term Manson used to predict and produce an apocalyptic racial war between whites and blacks. Charles Manson and the Manson Family murders have become a symbol of evil, bloody violence, and the macabre which continues to fascinate us today. Charles Manson - Helter Skelter and Beyond is highly recommended for those interested in the chilling account of Charles Manson and the Manson Family and for those interested in the unusual connection the murders have with the rock/pop culture from then and now.

Book excerpt: "Hunting Charles Manson the best true crime book you will ever read....Lock your doors, keep the night lights on, and read this book." - Linda Fairstein, New York Times bestselling crime novelist In the late summer of 1969, the nation was transfixed by a series of gruesome murders in the hills of Los Angeles. Newspapers and television programs detailed the brutal slayings of a beautiful actress--twenty six years old and eight months pregnant with her first child--as well as a hair stylist, an heiress, a businessman, and other victims. The City of Angels was plunged into a nightmare of fear and dread. In the weeks and months that followed, law enforcement faced intense pressure to solve crimes that seemed to have no connection. Finally, after months of dead-ends, false leads, and near-misses, Charles Manson and members of his "family" were arrested. The bewildering trials that followed once again captured the nation and forever secured Manson as a byword for the evil that men do. Drawing upon deep archival research and exclusive personal interviews--including unique access to Manson Family parole hearings--former federal prosecutor and Fox News legal analyst Lis Wiehl has written a propulsive, page-turning historical thriller of the crimes and manhunt that mesmerized the nation. And in the process, she reveals how the social and political context that gave rise to Manson is eerily similar to our own.

Book excerpt: The gripping story of the real Charles Manson as told by his long-time prison administrator, counselor, unofficial press agent, and confidant, Ed George. “Throughout my life, people have asked me about Manson. . . . “Does he have hypnotic powers?” “Does he have a diabolical charisma?” . . . “Is he crazy?” My response is that for some people, the answer to all of the above is yes—except for the last question.” —Edward George Charles Manson was perhaps the most infamous criminal of the twentieth century. Convicted for orchestrating the shocking Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969, and for two other killings, there has been much written about him. But not many people knew him as well as Edward George, who over years of conversations with Manson as his prison administrator, counselor, unofficial “press agent,” and confidant, gained deep insight into Manson’s mind-set. In this updated edition of George’s riveting account, he illuminates the many sides of Manson: charismatic cult leader, master manipulator, calculated “showman,” sly trickster, and more. George and his coauthor, Dary Matera, begin by detailing the troubling events of Manson’s youth, the historic 1969 murders, and the subsequent trial that ended an era. They then pull back the curtain on the intense reality of Manson’s turbulent life behind bars and the events that have transpired since the initial publication of this book in 1999, including Manson’s death in 2017. Originally published as Taming the Beast: Charles Manson’s Life Behind Bars Praise for Taming the Beast “A valuable book which gives additional insights into the criminal mind of Charles Manson.” —Vincent Bugliosi, author of Helter Skelter “Charles Manson may be the most written about, commercially viable malefactor in American history, yet George and Matera offer a worthwhile new take on him in their jailhouse bio. . . . George came to know Manson’s whole rollicking gang in scary and intimate detail. He strives to understand Manson and his devotees and, spewing psychological and spiritual insights and plenty of witchy Masonoid details, succeeds in horrifying his readers.” —Booklist “What distinguishes George’s book is that it puts a human face on a man whose very name defines evil—revealing the personality hidden during television interviews.” —Alameda Journal “An ugly, ugly look at a man whose entire life has been a study in sickness. . . . Provide[s] a chilling glimpse of Family members like Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, who showed up at the prison regularly in her red cape.” —Kirkus Reviews

Book excerpt: The first acceptance of paranoid awareness is that nothing is as it seems. This is the key to understanding the conspiracy of nature, the "matrix" that constitutes the foundation of paranoid awareness, and the forerunner to the lucid view. Paranoid awareness asks the question: Supposing the Truth happens to more or less coincide with what has been hitherto designated as impossible? Supposing what we call Reason has been a plot to systematically cut off all phenomena and thoughts that refuse to submit to its own arbitrary model of reality? Supposing ninety five percent of what is really going on in the world has been suppressed and damned, in order to maintain the current illusion of Consensus "Reality"? Supposing, in a word, that REALITY IS ELSEWHERE? This is the premise of The Lucid View. Consensus Reality is the ultimate secret society. It is so secret that even its members are unaware of its existence. Consensus Reality is a conspiracy to uphold the world. It is the means by which we communicate and agree upon the way things are, and the way they must be. So far as it is a functioning model, such a Consensus is valid. Insofar as it is not a functioning model, and is, as in our present case, on the verge of total breakdown, then such a Consensus is by definition invalid. At this point, it therefore becomes the right and responsibility of every thinking member of society to cancel his membership, and to option a new, higher or broader concept of "reality." This is The Lucid View. The Lucid View: Investigations in Eschatology and Paranoid Awareness An unorthodox analysis of conspiracy theory, ufology, extraterrestrialism, and occultism, The Lucid View takes us on an impartial journey through secret history, from the Gnostics and Templars, Crowley and Hitler1s occult alliance, the sorcery wars of Freemasonry and the Illuminati, "Alternative Three" covert space colonization, the JFK assassination, the Manson murders, Jonestown, 9/11, into Ufos and alien abductions, their relations to mind control technology and sorcery practices, with reference to inorganic beings and Kundalini energy. The book offers a balanced overview on religious, magical and paranoid beliefs as pertaining to the 21st century, and their social, psychological, and spiritual implications for humanity, the leading game player in the grand mythic drama of Armageddon.

Book excerpt: Charles Milles Manson was an American criminal and cult leader. In the late 1960s, he formed what became known as the Manson Family, a quasi-commune in California. Manson's followers committed a series of nine murders at four locations in July and August 1969. In 1971, he was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people, all of which members of the group carried out at his instruction. Manson was also convicted of first-degree murder for two other deaths. At the time the Manson Family began to form, Manson was an unemployed ex-convict who had spent half of his life in correctional institutions for a variety of offenses. Before the murders, he was a singer-songwriter on the fringe of the Los Angeles music industry, chiefly through a chance association with Dennis Wilson, drummer and founding member of the Beach Boys. Manson believed in what he called "Helter Skelter", a term he took from the Beatles' song of the same name to describe an impending apocalyptic race war. He believed the murders would help precipitate that war.

It comprises a prologue, an epilogue, and sixteen chapters that both build upon and diversify the success of the 2011 volume Autobiographical International Relations. Here, as in that volume, academics place their narratives in the context of world politics, culture, and history. Contributors explore moments in their academic lives that are often inexpressible in the standard academic voice and which, in turn, require a different way of writing and knowing. They write in the belief that academic IR has already begun to benefit from a different kind of writing—a stylae that retrieves the "I" and explicitly demonstrates its presence both within the world and within academic writing. By working within the overlap between theory, history, and autobiography, these chapters aim to increase the clarity, urgency, and meaningfulness of academic work. Highlighting the autoethnographic and autobiographic turn in critical international relations, this work will be of great interest to students and scholars in international relations, IR theory and global politics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1950s and 1960s True Detective magazine developed a new way of narrating and understanding murder. It was more sensitive to context, gave more psychologically sophisticated accounts, and was more willing to make conjectures about the unknown thoughts and motivations of killers than others had been before. This turned out to be the start of a revolution, and, after a century of escalating accounts, we have now become a nation of experts, with many ordinary people able to speak intelligently about blood-spatter patterns and organized vs. disorganized serial killers. The Rise of True Crime examines the various genres of true crime using the most popular and well-known examples. And despite its examination of some of the potentially negative effects of the genre, it is written for people who read and enjoy true crime, and wish to learn more about it. With skyrocketing crime rates and the appearance of a frightening trend toward social chaos in the 1970s, books, documentaries, and fiction films in the true crime genre tried to make sense of the Charles Manson crimes and the Gary Gilmore execution events. And in the 1980s and 1990s, true crime taught pop culture consumers about forensics, profiling, and highly technical aspects of criminology. We have thus now become a nation of experts, with many ordinary people able to speak intelligently about blood-spatter patterns and organized vs. disorganized serial killers. Through the suggestion that certain kinds of killers are monstrous or outside the realm of human morality, and through the perpetuation of the stranger-danger idea, the true crime aesthetic has both responded to and fostered our culture's fears. True crime is also the site of a dramatic confrontation with the concept of evil, and one of the few places in American public discourse where moral terms are used without any irony, and notions and definitions of evil are presented without ambiguity. When seen within its historical context, true crime emerges as a vibrant and meaningful strand of popular culture, one that is unfortunately devalued as lurid and meaningless pulp.
