Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book Synopsis Lepton Flavor Violation from Low Scale Seesaw Neutrinos with Masses Reachable at the LHC by : Xabier Marcano
Download or read book Lepton Flavor Violation from Low Scale Seesaw Neutrinos with Masses Reachable at the LHC written by Xabier Marcano and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flavor physics is fundamental to test the Standard Model of particle physics and could be the key to discover new physics. This book explores lepton flavor violating implications in the low scale seesaw models, a well-motivated scenario for explaining the still open problem of neutrino mass generation. It studies the lepton flavor violating Higgs decays in depth, developing useful simple expressions for making fast estimations of this observable. It also introduces a new parametrization optimized for the study of lepton flavor violation in these models, showing that high rates could be obtained for Higgs and Z decays if these new heavy neutrinos have masses in the TeV range. Lastly, it goes on to explore the possibility of their production and decay at the Large Hadron Collider through events with two charged leptons of different flavor.

Book Synopsis CLFV 2013 by : Francesco Grancagnolo
Download or read book CLFV 2013 written by Francesco Grancagnolo and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "... focused on the interplay between studies and measurements concerning charged lepton flavor violation processes. An update on the current and planned research was given, together with the analysis of up to date theoretical scenarios. R&D programs going on to set up new detection techniques and devices were also covered. Search for CLFV processes are powerful probes of physics beyond the Standard Model. This conference, the first in a projected series, has examined the status of CLFV-predicting models, both SUSY and non-SUSY, after the first LHC results, and has investigated the physics accessible in the coming round of experiments. We have learnt what searches for CLFV have already told us, and have examined the prospects for experiments and new facilities planned for the coming decade. The workshop was organized in plenary session of invited, review and contributed talks and poster presentation."--Editorial page.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for the lepton-flavor-violating decay of the tau into one charged lepton and two charged hadrons has been performed using 221.4 fb−1 of data collected at an ee− center-of-mass energy around 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. In all 14 decay modes considered, the numbers of events found in data are compatible with the background expectations. Upper limits on the branching fractions are set in the range (0.7-4.8) x 10−7 at 90% confidence level. All results are preliminary.
Book Synopsis Charged-lepton Mixing and Lepton Flavor Violation by :
Download or read book Charged-lepton Mixing and Lepton Flavor Violation written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a model for calculating charged-lepton mixing matrices. These matrices are an essential ingredient for predicting lepton avor-violating rates in the lepton number nonuniversal models recently proposed to explain anomalies in B-meson decays. The model is based on work on \constrained flavor breaking" by Appelquist, Bai and Piai relating the charged-lepton mass matrix, M[iota], to those for the up and down-type quarks, Mud. We use our recent model of lepton nonuniversality to illustrate the magnitudes of avor-violating B-decay rates that might be expected. As a result, decays with [mu][tau] final states generally have the highest rates by far.

Book Synopsis Evolution of Particle Physics by : M Conversi
Download or read book Evolution of Particle Physics written by M Conversi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution of Particle Physics is concerned with the birth of particle physics and its maturation as a scientific field, with emphasis on advances in both theory and experiment. Topics covered include weak interactions and the breaking of hadron symmetries; the role of complexity in nature; symmetry principles in physics; and isobaric analog resonances in phenomenological nuclear spectroscopy. Adiabatic transformations as well as range and straggling of muons are also discussed. This book is comprised of 24 chapters and begins with a review of some of the most important discoveries in particle physics, along with the tools and techniques that made it possible. The reader is then introduced to symmetry breaking, paying particular attention to hadron symmetries and their connection to weak interactions. The following chapters explore channeling of ultrarelativistic charged particles in crystals; coherent scattering of high-energy hadrons by light nuclei; elementary particle physics and high-energy physics; and the design and use of large electron synchrotrons. This monograph will be of interest to particle physicists.
