Download or read book Emissions from Two-Stroke Engines written by Marco Nuti and published by SAE International. This book was released on 1998-10-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the design of new CI engines, it is of paramount importance to reduce the pollutants and fuel consumption," writes author Marco Nuti. In this, the first book devoted entirely to exhaust emissions from two-stroke engines, Nuti examines the technical design issues that will determine how long the two-stroke engine survives into the twenty-first century. Dr. Nuti, director of Technical Innovation at Piaggio, thoroughly explores pollutant formation and control from unburned hydrocarbon emissions, carbon monoxide emissions, catalytic aftertreatment, and secondary air addition.

Book Synopsis The Tracer Gas Method of Determining the Charging Efficiency of Two-stroke-cycle Diesel Engines by : P. H. Schweitzer
Download or read book The Tracer Gas Method of Determining the Charging Efficiency of Two-stroke-cycle Diesel Engines written by P. H. Schweitzer and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A convenient method has been developed for determining the scavenging efficiency or the charging efficiency of two-stroke-cycle engines. The method consists of introducing a suitable tracer gas into the inlet air of the running engine and measuring chemically its concentration both in the inlet and exhaust gas. Monomethylamine CH3NH2 was found suitable for the purpose as it burns almost completely during combustion, whereas the "short-circuited" portion does not burn at all and can be determined quantitatively in the exhaust. The method was tested both on four-stroke and on two-stroke engines and is considered accurate within 1 percent.

Book Synopsis Comparison of In-cylinder Scavenging Flows in a Two-stroke Cycle Engine Under Motored and Fired Conditions by :
Download or read book Comparison of In-cylinder Scavenging Flows in a Two-stroke Cycle Engine Under Motored and Fired Conditions written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The in-cylinder flow field of a loop-scavenged, two-stroke engine has been characterized using laser Doppler velocimetry. The radial component of gas velocity was measured along the axis of the cylinder for both motored and fired operation. Measurements were obtained under conditions simulating both crankcase and external blower driven scavenging. Mean profiles of the radial velocity show marked differences in the global flow structure between motored and fired operation for both scavenging methods. These differences persist throughout the scavenging process and survive compression of the fresh charge. Root mean square (rms) velocity fluctuations near TDC were also determined, and significant differences between motored and fired operation are observed. The rms fluctuations are found to correlate well with the mean shear during compression.
