Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thousands of years, cataract surgery continues to be the "pearl" of ophthalmic surgery. It is explained by the fact that cataract removal always leads to an increase in visual acuity of patients. A new technology of cataract removal, phacoemulsification, was introduced by Charles Kelman in 1967. Despite this, it was difficult for the surgeons to transform from extracapsular cataract extraction to the new method - phacoemulsification. Recently, in the ophthalmological practice, the method of femtolaser cataract surgery (FLACS) has been introduced. This method allows you to automatically perform the basic stages of cataract surgery - corneal incisions, capsulorhexis, nucleus fracture. At the same time, to apply the various techniques of cataract surgery, the surgeon must possess virtually all the necessary techniques. This is dictated by the fact that, as a rule, cataract itself is rarely isolated - senile. Knowledge of the basic rules of cataract surgery, the use of pupillary rings and iris retractors in narrow pupils, the use of capsular rings in subluxations of the lens, the use of special modes of phaco in severe late cataracts, and a comprehensive clinical way of thinking can undoubtedly reduce the complications of cataract surgery.

Book excerpt: Biomedical Applications of Electrospinning and Electrospraying describes the principles and laboratory set up for electrospinning and electrospraying, addressing a range of biomedical applications. Sections cover novel combinational approaches, such as electrospinning/spraying and 3D printing. Electrospinning has evolved from being a technique to prepare random networks of textile fibers to a technique to fabricate highly ordered patterns of biomedical materials of defined scale. The technological advancements in recent years with regard to the way the jet is facilitated, how the jet path is controlled, and how the fibers are collected have provided invaluable insights into controlled fabrication of a material of choice. Additionally, the electrospray technique has also evolved from being a technique to prepare food formulations to a technique to prepare cell encapsulated beads for transplantation in clinics. Several innovations in this line, such as those leading to core-shell materials have tremendously changed the way the technique is used. Thus, a combinational approach using electrospinning, electrospraying and 3D printing has emerged. - Introduces electrospinning and electrospraying concepts and describes state-of-the-art methodologies - Provides comprehensive coverage of electrospun/spray materials in drug delivery, tissue engineering and biosensor applications - Presents details of instrumentation involved, along with novel devices for bench to bedside translation, - Covers novel combinational approaches using electrospinning, electrospraying and 3D printingIntroduces electrospinning and electrospraying concepts and describes state-of-the-art methodologies - Provides comprehensive coverage of electrospun/spray materials in drug delivery, tissue engineering and biosensor applications - Presents details of instrumentation involved, along with novel devices for bench to bedside translation - Covers novel combinational approaches using electrospinning, electrospraying and 3D printing

Book excerpt: This monograph presents the latest results related to bio-mechanical systems and materials. The bio-mechanical systems with which his book is concerned are prostheses, implants, medical operation robots and muscular re-training systems. To characterize and design such systems, a multi-disciplinary approach is required which involves the classical disciplines of mechanical/materials engineering and biology and medicine. The challenge in such an approach is that views, concepts or even language are sometimes different from discipline to discipline and the interaction and communication of the scientists must be first developed and adjusted. Within the context of materials' science, the book covers the interaction of materials with mechanical systems, their description as a mechanical system or their mechanical properties.

In agriculture, nanofertilisers improve plant nutrition by releasing nutrients slowly and steadily. Nanomaterials synthesised using biomass such as fungi are further found remarkable to clean waters polluted by heavy metals. However, as newly introduced materials in the environment, nanoparticles may exhibit toxic effects, which are reviewed in this book. In the context of climate change, methods for water desalinisation are also presented.
