Download or read book Turbulent Premixed Flames written by Nedunchezhian Swaminathan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-25 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A work on turbulent premixed combustion is important because of increased concern about the environmental impact of combustion and the search for new combustion concepts and technologies. An improved understanding of lean fuel turbulent premixed flames must play a central role in the fundamental science of these new concepts. Lean premixed flames have the potential to offer ultra-low emission levels, but they are notoriously susceptible to combustion oscillations. Thus, sophisticated control measures are inevitably required. The editors' intent is to set out the modeling aspects in the field of turbulent premixed combustion. Good progress has been made on this topic, and this cohesive volume contains contributions from international experts on various subtopics of the lean premixed flame problem.
Book Synopsis Advanced Thermodynamics for Engineers by : D. Winterbone
Download or read book Advanced Thermodynamics for Engineers written by D. Winterbone and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1996-11-01 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the basic theories of thermodynamics are adequately covered by a number of existing texts, there is little literature that addresses more advanced topics. In this comprehensive work the author redresses this balance, drawing on his twenty-five years of experience of teaching thermodynamics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to produce a definitive text to cover thoroughly, advanced syllabuses. The book introduces the basic concepts which apply over the whole range of new technologies, considering: a new approach to cycles, enabling their irreversibility to be taken into account; a detailed study of combustion to show how the chemical energy in a fuel is converted into thermal energy and emissions; an analysis of fuel cells to give an understanding of the direct conversion of chemical energy to electrical power; a detailed study of property relationships to enable more sophisticated analyses to be made of both high and low temperature plant and irreversible thermodynamics, whose principles might hold a key to new ways of efficiently covering energy to power (e.g. solar energy, fuel cells). Worked examples are included in most of the chapters, followed by exercises with solutions. By developing thermodynamics from an explicitly equilibrium perspective, showing how all systems attempt to reach a state of equilibrium, and the effects of these systems when they cannot, the result is an unparalleled insight into the more advanced considerations when converting any form of energy into power, that will prove invaluable to students and professional engineers of all disciplines.

Book Synopsis Combustion, Flames and Explosions of Gases by : Bernard Lewis
Download or read book Combustion, Flames and Explosions of Gases written by Bernard Lewis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion, Flames, and Explosions of Gases, Second Edition focuses on the processes, methodologies, and reactions involved in combustion phenomena. The publication first offers information on theoretical foundations, reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, and reaction between carbon monoxide and oxygen. Discussions focus on the fundamentals of reaction kinetics, elementary and complex reactions in gases, thermal reaction, and combined hydrogen-carbon monoxide-oxygen reaction. The text then elaborates on the reaction between hydrocarbons and oxygen and combustion waves in laminar flow. The manuscript tackles combustion waves in turbulent flow and air entrainment and burning of jets of fuel gases. Topics include effect of turbulence spectrum and turbulent wrinkling on combustion wave propagation; ignition of high-velocity streams by hot solid bodies; burners with primary air entrainment; and description of jet flames. The book then takes a look at detonation waves in gases; emission spectra, ionization, and electric-field effects in flames; and methods of flame photography and pressure recording. The publication is a valuable reference for readers interested in combustion phenomena.

Book Synopsis Turbulent Premixed Hydrogen/Air Flames by :
Download or read book Turbulent Premixed Hydrogen/Air Flames written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of turbulent premixed flames were investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Attention was limited to hydrogen/air mixtures burning as either turbulent jet flames or a freely propagating flames in isotropic turbulence. The research has application to a variety to premixed turbulent combustion processes: underwater metal cutting at great depth, primary combustors for high-speed airbreathing propulsion systems, afterburners, fuel/ air explosions, and spark-ignition internal combustion engines. Major findings of this phase of the investigation are as follows: (1) effects of preferential diffusion are relevent for flames at high Reynolds number, retarding and enhancing the distortion of the flame surface by turbulence for stable and unstable conditions, respectively; (2) local turbulent burning velocity, flame brush thickness and the fractal dimension of the flame surface all increase with distance from the flameholder, with larger rates of increases at larger turbulence intensities; (3) estimates of flame properties using contemporary turbulence models were only fair because these methods cannot account for effects of preferential diffusion, distance from the flameholder and finite laminar flame speeds; and (4) the stochastic simulation duplicated measured trends of flame surface properties for neutral preferential diffusion conditions (the only case considered) but underestimated effects of turbulence (particularly near the flame tip) due to the limitations of a two-dimensional simulation.

Features a complete view of the challenges at the intersection of swirling flame combustors, their requirements, and the physics of fluids at work Addresses the challenges of turbulent combustion modeling with numerical simulations Includes the presentation of the very latest numerical results and analyses of flashback, lean blowout, and combustion instabilities Covers the design of a fully premixed injector for future jet engine applications
Book Synopsis Hydrogen for Future Thermal Engines by : Efstathios-Al. Tingas
Download or read book Hydrogen for Future Thermal Engines written by Efstathios-Al. Tingas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-14 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the potential of hydrogen combustion in thermal engines and serves as a foundation for future research. Hydrogen, a well-established energy carrier, has been used in internal combustion engines for centuries, but despite progress and industry interest, hydrogen engines have yet to reach mass production. In light of recent efforts to combat climate change with clean energy and environmentally-friendly technologies, the use of hydrogen in thermal engines is gaining momentum. This book examines the unique challenges of hydrogen combustion due to its wide flammability limits, high auto-ignition temperature, and high diffusivity. It reviews current knowledge on the fundamental and practical aspects of hydrogen combustion and considers current developments and potential future advancement.
