Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A modern-day women’s manifesto: a look at how love, romance, and the digital domain police women's behaviours. Be the cool girl and get the guy. Otherwise you're ... Too fat or too thin; too clever or too stupid; too free or too restricted. You need to be .... Pretty but relatable, not difficult, not demanding - yes, virtually invisible. Play down your attributes, your wants, your needs and most definitely, don't be high maintenance! The term “high-maintenance” is part of everyday speech, and usually refers to a woman who places a high value on her personal image, wants or needs. Often uttered within the context of dating, the implication is the woman in question is too much hard work. Rarely, if ever, do we come across the term “high-maintenance man”. On a daily basis women are deliberately portraying themselves as “low-maintenance”, “chill” and “cool”. Hidden behind these seemingly insignificant, even innocuous words, is something far more sinister. They tend to describe the multitude of ways women reign themselves in to appease men. The “high-maintenance” woman is too much to handle – confirming known stereotypes that women are expected to be quiet, subservient, opinion-less, and always amenable. That they shouldn’t be difficult. This rhetoric is dangerous. It teaches women around the world, and distressingly, the next generation that they need to play into a male stereotype of what a woman should be – and that’s smaller, and less than. This is a call to arms to women. To take up as much space as you like. To be as clever, as madeup, as dull, as vibrant, as curious, or as difficult as you choose. To live wildly. To occupy and embrace different spaces. This is your moment to be, yes, high maintenance. Embrace it

Book excerpt: If you haven't heard of the 'Oola phenomenon' yet, it's time to catch up. First, though, you need to understand what it is: Oola is that state of awesomeness you experience when your life is balanced and growing in all the key areas of health and well-being. It can be a noun or a verb. It can be a destination or a feeling. It can be as complex as a life growing and balanced in fitness, finance, family, field, faith, friends, and fun (the 7 F's of Oola), or as simple as a sunset, a quiet book on the beach, or a special moment with a child. It is that place we all shoot for in life. That feeling we experience and that we celebrate in our successes along the way. In short, Oola is cool. Since the first copy of the original book, Oola: Find balance in an Unbalanced World, rolled off the presses a few years ago, the Oola Lifestyle has become a literal phenomenon—a dynamic movement. OolaPalooza live events have been routinely sold out since the day they were started, and the Oola message has been taken to countless cities across America and to every major city in the world via 700,000+ Oola fans on social media. In their 1970s VW Surf bus, authors Troy Amdahl and Dave Braun have taken their OolaDream tour on the road, from coast-to-coast, collecting dreams and goals for a balanced life from people who adorn their vehicle with colorful Oola stickers. The OolaGuys know that women are the ultimate multitaskers. While a circus performer might spin seven plates in a single show, women spin seven plates—figuratively—every day. They not only juggle kids, family, and home life, they also juggle work responsibilities, customers and clients, make constant business decisions, handle professional events and so many related activities that it's truly mind-boggling how much a woman can pack into a 24-hour day. In this Oola especially for them, the book shows, through the experiences of 54 inspiring women, how to overcome unexpected hardships, and transform the juggling act of everyday life into a dream lifestyle of simplicity, tranquility, abundance, and opportunity. That's what 'living Oola' means—and it's not only an attainable goal, but a well-deserved reward.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early on, Madalene and Herbert S. Jordan realized they had a common focus in life which could easily be summarized as "Duty, Honor, Country and God." Integrity was the hallmark characteristic of them both. When commitments were made, they were honored...without hesitation. With marriage, the commitments were in the wedding vows, never to be violated, and in religion, the commitment was in the baptismal rite which, again, was never to be violated. For Madalene Marie Driscoll, her commitment to God was made as a baby through the promises of her parents and God-parents. All through her life, she was devoted to the Catholic Church, its teachings and its obligations. She spent much time in prayer, and whenever possible spent time in adoration before the Holy Eucharist. At location after location, Army post after Army post, she sewed cassocks and surpluses for the altar boys. Indeed in most posts from the 1930's on, her boys were altar servers. She was dedicated to reading scripture and religious books, attending novenas and prayed the rosary on basically a daily basis. She frequently went to daily Mass and was a dedicated parishioner in the chapels and churches wherever she lived. Priests treasured her ability to get things done. She always hoped that one of her sons would become a priest, but was pleased to have a nephew and brother who were priests in the Passionist Order, Father Godfrey Poage and Father Louis Driscoll. Herbert Spencer Jordan was raised as a Congregationalist, but following the marriage to Madalene he attended Catholic Mass with the family on special occasions. After their son Bert's sudden death in the Korean War in September 1950, Herbert began studying with a Jesuit priest and in 1951 became a Roman Catholic. He embraced that commitment with total heart and soul, and became a stalwart convert, frequently reading religious books and a lot of religious history. In prayer life, they really became a pair as they had in marriage. Indeed, they embedded in their sons the characteristics which their parents manifested...INTEGRITY...DUTY...HONOR...COUNTRY...GOD. This manifestation showed up in many ways. In entering a car, Mom always quietly said a prayer. Dad never used a foul or profane word...and didn't allow anyone in his home or who worked for him to use any such language. Wherever they traveled with the Army, the two of them would become close friends with Catholic priests and sisters in their parishes. In Dad's case, this happened long before he became a Catholic. They were always generous in giving to church and charities. In fact, our family home often became the site for parish- or Army chapel-based activities, and especially for raising money for struggling churches during World War II. What a model set of parents!!

Book excerpt: Belinda Star is a highly decorated veteran of the United States Army. Her military background has created a woman adept in the art of battle, but even her specialized training and battlefield experiences could not prepare her to deal with the crimes committed by her own family. Crimes that not only were committed against the American public, but also against Belinda herself. In the midst of familial tension, Belinda must travel from Germany, where she lives with her active duty husband, back to the United States--back to a place and a family she left long ago. She knows that her mother has, once again, found herself in trouble with the law, but it is not until Belinda arrives that she realizes the extent of her mother's crimes and the secrets she has concealed. Despite the poor treatment Belinda has endured throughout her life at the hands of her own family, she finds herself alone in her efforts to save them from the debt they have created and the legal infractions they have committed. Violence. Alcoholism. Theft. Impersonation. The list of problems within Belinda's family is long, yet she remains steadfast in her commitment to them. Even when Belinda is the only family member who has surfaced to help, her family continues their lies and betrayal, causing Belinda to question her own pledges of allegiance to them time and time again. Belinda must remain the stoic and steadfast soldier she has always been to pull back the layers and layers of deceit and mystery her family has created over several decades. As Belinda uncovers the family secrets her mother will do anything to conceal, she begins to discover even more about her heritage and, consequently, even more about herself. Through her diligence and skill, Belinda not only finds a way to right the wrongs her family has committed, but she also learns a great deal about the true meaning of a daughter's duty.
