Especially in developing countries small scale industries considered as a backbone of their economies. In regard of this, the study intends to examine the challenges and prospects of Micro and Small enterprises in construction sector, specifically on the construction material producer enterprises in Yeka and Bole sub-cities. To satisfy the objectives of this study, descriptive and inferential analyses were used. The information was collected from the sample of 150 MSEs with face to face interviews. The sampled MSEs were selected by simple random sampling technique. Besides that, the study draws out with nine key challenges which seem to influence the profitability of MSEs in both sub-cities. The results point to that, there is a strong relationship between the independent and dependent variable. Furthermore, the selected explanatory variables may significantly explain the variations of the explained variance at 5% and 10% level of significance. Based on the results, financial, managerial, raw material, work premises and technologies are the main challenges of MSEs, those to be profitable and successful. Therefore, recommendations are forwarded to government bodies, micro and small construction material producer enterprise and to other researchers.

The basic argument made in this thesis is that even if the Ethiopian Constitution provides and guarantees common ownership of land (together with the state) to the people, this right has not been fully realized whether in terms of land accessibility, enjoyability, and payment of fair compensation in the event of expropriation. Expropriation is an inherent power of the state to acquire land for public purpose activities. It is an important development tool in a country such as Ethiopia where expropriation remains the only method to acquire land. Furthermore, the two preconditions of payment of fair compensation and existence of public purpose justifications are not strictly followed in Ethiopia. The state remains the sole beneficiary of the process by capturing the full profit of land value, while paying inadequate compensation to those who cede their land by expropriation. Secondly, the broader public purpose power of the state in expropriating the land for unlimited activities puts the property owners under imminent risk of expropriation.

Less attention has been given to identify challenges and prospects of poultry industry rather than taking one component and react on that, though poultry industry is diminishing through time without clear and research based identified problems. The purpose of this study was to identify the challenges and prospects of poultry industry in Bahir Dar city. What are the major constraints and prospects of poultry industry, what would help strengthen poultry industry, and how do poultry productions profitability look like? These were questions which the study attempts to answer with focus on Bahir Dar city poultry industry. The study was descriptive type of research and the data for the study were collected through sets of questionnaires administered to respondents, as well as interviews, with some selected producers and experts. Census sampling technique was used to select respondents and data collected was analyzed by the use of SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The study revealed that stakeholders involved in the poultry business of Bahir Dar poultry farm industry believe the industry is actually declining and they assign causes such as shortage of guaranteed land, absence of sufficient electric power, absence of genuine breed supply of chicken, lack of knowledge on poultry production, shortage of professionals in the area, government’s lack to amend land lease time policy based on the nature of poultry industry, absence of clear control mechanism of genuine breed poultry and absence of feed processer either private or/and government organization subsidies on agric inputs like feed, drugs, equipment and several other factors. On the other hand, major prospects of poultry industry in Bahir Dar city like presence of good government policy, presence of better market demand and conducive environment for poultry production were identified. It can be concluded that, if the government and producers are unable to overcome those major identified constraints and challenges of poultry industry, the existing loss of poultry industry will be aggravated and most probably poultry industry will be totally eliminated from Bahir Dar city. A modified survey questionnaire was distributed to 104 respondents. The respondents of the study were the micro entrepreneurs who are in the business for the last three years operating within the area of Davao City. The study used quantitative exploratory research using exploratory factor analysis and Kaiser-meyer-olkin to determine the factors and the level of per extracted risks that were critical to the micro entrepreneurs in operating a micro enterprise. The results revealed that among the four risk factors perceived by micro entrepreneurs, only financial risk was considered the factor that greatly affect the operation of a micro enterprise. Furthermore, the study revealed that variables such as income, business type and type of business ownership were considered sensitive in operating a micro enterprise. The study is beneficial to the micro enterprise owners since it would give them a better understanding as to which factors are more significant to them. This would also enable them to prepare and protect their businesses from risks in order to survive the industry.

It becomes an increasingly important factor for organizational survival in the current dynamic environment. Customer satisfaction is one measurement of organizations performance based on the quality of services provided. This study tries to examine the effect of organizational culture on customer satisfaction in Yeka Sub City Small Tax Payers’ Office. The employed semi-structured questionnaire as data gathering tools for the sample population and non-participant observation was also employed as data gathering tool to supplement questionnaire. The total sample size was 249 out of which 232 questionnaires were completed and included in the analysis part. The responses of respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics and narration. SPSS software was used in analyzing the collected data. The results of analysis showed mixed responses. The correlation coefficients show that all independent variable were found to be positively correlated with customer satisfaction though there is a discrepancy in their strength. Moreover, multiple regression analysis was used to determine the effect of all independent variables on a dependent variable, customer satisfaction. And accordingly, customer satisfaction is found to be primarily predicted by higher level of reliability, tangibility, team orientation, responsiveness, customer orientation and stability of organization. Meanwhile, the employee satisfaction is mostly predicted by higher level of stability, outcome orientation and innovation and risk taking. Generally, it was found that when 65 % of observed variability in customer satisfaction can be explained by independent variables included in the study, 54 % of observed variability in employee satisfaction is found to be explained by change in independent variables included in the study organization.

The research is descriptive in its very nature. Besides, both quantitative and qualitative research approach is used. Simple random sampling technique particularly lottery method is used to select samples from the total population. Both primary and secondary data sources have been employed, and questionnaire, interview and observation are employed to collect the required data. Furthermore, quantitative (i.e. descriptive statistics specially frequency distribution and percentage) and qualitative (i.e., verbal analysis or narration) data analysis methods have been launched to analyze the collected data. Data are mainly presented in tabular, pictorial and textual form. Continuous population growth in Yeka sub city resulted in the encroachment of forest land mostly through informal way and this resulted in the minimization of forest cover and the alteration of land use from natural forest into human-made residential and other built-up areas on a continuous manner. Besides the formal settlement, made by the legal allotment of land, the informal settlement is very high and even difficult to control. This indicates the high magnitude of urbanization in the sub city. The main causes for the continuous urban population growth or urbanization are influx of people into the city of Addis Ababa, ever-increasing natural birth rate and reduced mortality rate.
