Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chapter I - Importance of Nutrition of Species in Aquaculture, Chapter II - Nutritional Requirements of Finfish, Chapter III - Nutritional Requirements of Crustaceans (Shrimps and Prawns, Lobsters and Crabs), Chapter IV - Broodstock and Larval Nutrition, Chapter V - Feed Ingredients, Chapter VI - Feed Additives, Chapter VII - Feed Formulation An Feed Technology, Chapter VIII - Feeding Management and Sustainability, Chapter IX 0- Biofloc Technology, Chapter X - Aquaponics. Fish and shellfish are contributing highly nutritious and healthy food to the food basket the world over. The world per capita seafood consumption reached a record level of 20 kg per person per year for the first time in history. This is twice the level of average per capita fish consumption in 1960s in the world. The global trade value of seafood has increased to $ 150 billion. The total fish production in the world is 150 million tons in 2014 (FAO) out of which 70 million tons is contributed by aquaculture. While the natural capture fishery resources are fast dwindling, contribution by aquaculture is ever increasing. The culture of crustaceans and finfishes is propelled mainly by intentional feeding of formulated feeds. As the demand for fish as food for human consumption is ever-increasing, aquaculture is the only alternative to bridge the gap between supply and demand. Indian aquaculture production has shown impressive growth with total aquaculture production nearing 7 million tons contributing almost 70% to the total seafood production. Indian aquaculture sector is mainly represented by the large scale culture of Indian Major Carps (catla, rohu and mrigal), exotic carps (grass carp, silver carp and common carp) and Pangasius catfish. Freshwater prawn and Penaeid shrimp are the crustaceans that are adding to seafood exports from the country. Aquaculture of Asian seabass, milkfish, mullets, grouper and cobia etc. has been gaining momentum. The total aqua feed production is touching almost 300,000 tons per annum.

Book Synopsis Research Trends on Fish & Fisheries in Mountain Waters of Eastern Himalayan Region by : Debangshu Narayan Das, Santoshkumar Abujam, Achom Darshan Singh
Download or read book Research Trends on Fish & Fisheries in Mountain Waters of Eastern Himalayan Region written by Debangshu Narayan Das, Santoshkumar Abujam, Achom Darshan Singh and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2019-05-10 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a total of 25 unpublished research articles. In this edition, we have kept parity with each other’s outcomes, concisely in a unique style to depict the trends of research in the mountain fishery sector. We have also appended a list of contributors at the end of the book. The strategies observed in fisheries and aquaculture developments in the mountain waters clearly reveal that the on-going dimensions are nothing but broad ecosystem-based approached where both subsistence and commercial expansion of the systems could be possible. The research trend also directs that several fishery components, like ornamental fisheries, recreational fisheries, integrated fish farming, freshwater crab fishery, shellfish aquaculture, etc., exist. They may also be strengthened in mountain waters to improve the economic status of the mountain regions. Thus for exploiting huge mountain aqua-resources, Arunachal Pradesh targets the ecosystem-based approach of raising native mahseers, like Tor tor, Tor putitora, Neolissochilus hexagonolepis, and exotic species of trout in its mountain waters as a preliminary endevour.
Book Synopsis Sustainable Blue Revolution in India by : Latha Shenoy
Download or read book Sustainable Blue Revolution in India written by Latha Shenoy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-05-31 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive information on several dimensions of blue revolution in a structured form. Material provided in the book has been gathered from several relevant published sources and views expressed are based on practical field experience of the authors. Blue revolution would be one of the big game changers for the Indian economy. The subject of sustainable development of fisheries sector being very vast, concerted efforts have been made to accommodate all the relevant elements. Very little reading material with proper analysis is currently available and this book is expected to bridge the gap and project way-forward to achieve sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture in India under the blue revolution. The book is organised under 13 chapters covering wide ranging subjects that include fish production, processing, marketing, exports/imports of fishery products; ecolabelling; role of industry in promoting sustainability in fishing and aquaculture; sustainability issues in marine/inland fisheries/aquaculture; and fisheries regulations and legislations. Information has been provided on Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water); components of blue economy; Government of India fisheries development initiatives; and executive summary of recently launched PMMSY. Emerging plant and cell-based seafood segment; overall impacts of climate change; and impact of recent pandemic COVID-19 on fisheries and aquaculture are discussed under separate chapters. Finally, a chapter on ‘Way Forward’ is included that suggests practical management measures, technology infusion, technical interventions along with few innovative concepts and approaches towards achieving blue revolution. Note: T&F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Book Synopsis Freshwater Fish Distribution by : Tim M. Berra
Download or read book Freshwater Fish Distribution written by Tim M. Berra and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With more than 29,000 species, fishes are the most diverse group of vertebrates on the planet. Of that number, more than 12,000 species are found in freshwater ecosystems, which occupy less than 1 percent of the Earth’s surface and contain only 2.4 percent of plant and animal species. But, on a hectare-for-hectare basis, freshwater ecosystems are richer in species than more extensive terrestrial and marine habitats. Examination of the distribution patterns of fishes in these fresh waters reveals much about continental movements and climate changes and has long been critical to biogeographical studies and research in ecology and evolution. Tim Berra’s seminal resource, Freshwater Fish Distribution, maps the 169 fish families that swim in fresh water around the world. Each family account includes the class, subclass, and order; a pronunciation guide to the family name; life cycle information; and interesting natural history facts. Each account is illustrated, many with historical nineteenth-century woodcuts. Now available in paperback, this heavily cited work in ichthyology and biogeography will serve as a reference for students, a research support for professors, and a helpful guide to tropical fish hobbyists and anglers.
