Book Synopsis New Insights on the Gospels - Volume VI by : Msgr. João Scognamiglio Clá Dias, EP
Download or read book New Insights on the Gospels - Volume VI written by Msgr. João Scognamiglio Clá Dias, EP and published by New Insights Multimedia Corps . This book was released on 2012-02-03 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “New Insights on the Gospels” Volume VI, commentaries on the Sunday Gospels corresponding to Year C Sundays in Ordinary Time is part of a collection that enables you to accompany Our Lord Jesus Christ throughout every Sunday of the liturgical year, together with the founder of the Heralds of the Gospel. The work “New Insights on the Gospels,” beyond being exegetical and pastoral, has the merit of making theology accessible to all readers regardless of social status or academic level. To soar in the heights of Theology, what is needed, more than culture or intelligence, is faith. Faith enables us to penetrate truths and mysteries that lie beyond the reach of human understanding. When it comes to believing, higher learning or intellectual capacity is not of consequence; what truly matters is having a soul that is open to God’s light. It is only in the Catholic Faith that today’s world will find answers to the problems that perturb it. Perhaps this explains the growing interest among the faithful in deepening their knowledge of Catholic Doctrine. Could this be the reason for the successful publication of the first volumes of this collection? Published in four languages—English, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese—its first edition quickly ran out, achieving a circulation of almost seventy thousand copies. Saving precious teachings of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church from falling into oblivion, it is a response to the worthy and emphatic recommendation of the Second Vatican Council of giving primacy to Thomism (cf. Optatam totius, n.16) in the study of the mysteries of salvation. The work has met wide acceptance among priests, for whom it is mainly intended, to serve as a resource in homily preparation. But it has met an equally warm reception among the lay faithful who are eager to broaden their religious knowledge. This may be a unique symptom of the spiritual condition of our age: the thirst for the divine. It is a thirst that increases as it is quenched, causing neither distress nor pain but only joy for those who seek to satisfy it in the crystalline springs of the Word of God.

Download or read book The Sermon on the Mount and Human Flourishing written by Jonathan T. Pennington and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sermon on the Mount, one of the most influential portions of the Bible, is the most studied and commented upon portion of the Christian Scriptures. Every Christian generation turns to it for insight and guidance. In this volume, a recognized expert on the Gospels shows that the Sermon on the Mount offers a clear window into understanding God's work in Christ. Jonathan Pennington provides a historical, theological, and literary commentary on the Sermon and explains how this text offers insight into God's plan for human flourishing. As Pennington explores the literary dimensions and theological themes of this famous passage, he situates the Sermon in dialogue with the Jewish and Greek virtue traditions and the philosophical-theological question of human flourishing. He also relates the Sermon's theological themes to contemporary issues such as ethics, philosophy, and economics.

Book excerpt: "Bartleby, the Scrivener" – An elderly Manhattan lawyer with a comfortable business in legal documents has two scriveners employed, but an increase in business leads him to advertise for a third. He hires the forlorn-looking Bartleby in the hope that his calmness will soothe the irascible temperaments of the other two. An office boy nicknamed Ginger Nut completes the staff. At first, Bartleby produces a large volume of high-quality work, but one day, when asked to help proofread a document, Bartleby answers with what soon becomes his perpetual response to every request: "I would prefer not to." "Benito Cereno" is a tale about the revolt on a Spanish slave ship captained by Don Benito Cereno. In 1799 off the coast of Chile, Captain Amasa Delano of the American sealer and merchant ship Bachelor's Delight visits the San Dominick, a Spanish slave ship apparently in distress. After learning from its captain Benito Cereno that a storm has taken many crewmembers and provisions, Delano offers to help out. He notices that Cereno acts awkwardly passive for a captain and the slaves display remarkably inappropriate behavior, and though this piques his suspicion he ultimately decides he is being paranoid. When he leaves the San Dominick and captain Cereno jumps after him, he finally discovers that the slaves have taken command of the ship, and forced the surviving crew to act as usual.

Download or read book The Forbidden Religion written by Jose M. Herrou Aragon and published by José M. Herrou Aragón. This book was released on 2012-07-03 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gnosis means knowledge. But we are not referring to just any knowledge. Gnosis is knowledge which produces a great transformation in those who receive it. Knowledge capable of nothing less than waking up man and helping him to escape from the prison in which he finds himself. That is why Gnosis has been so persecuted throughout the course of history, because it is knowledge considered dangerous for the religious and political authorities who govern mankind from the shadows. Every time this religion, absolutely different from the rest, appears before man, the other religions unite to try to destroy or hide it again. Primordial Gnosis is the original Gnosis, true Gnosis, eternal Gnosis, Gnostic knowledge in its pure form. Due to multiple persecutions, Primordial Gnosis has been fragmented, distorted and hidden.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Aurea Catena Homeri, written in German by Dr. Anton Josef Kirchweger, was first printed in 1723, though it was distributed in a handwritten format prior to that time. It is said to be one of the most important books ever created giving insight into alchemy the idea that all creation, no matter what its nature, is closely interconnected, that a deeply secret connection pervades all of nature, that one thing relates to the next and things depend upon each other. In The Golden Chain of Homer, editors Gregory S. Hamilton and Philip N. Wheeler provide an English translation of Aurea Catena Homeri, complete with frequent, detailed footnotes and extensive commentary that offers a detailed analysis and insight into Kirchweger's work, considered a masterpiece of alchemical literature. The Golden Chain of Homer shows Kirchweger's book in a new, enlightening way. Through this translation, it becomes easier to understand alchemical principles and unveil the mysteries that shroud the science of alchemy.

Book excerpt: In this new commentary on the controversial Gospel of Thomas, Simon Gathercole provides the most extensive analysis yet published of both the work as a whole and of the individual sayings contained in it. This commentary offers a fresh analysis of Thomas not from the perspective of form criticism and source criticism but seeks to elucidate the meaning of the work and its constituent elements in its second-century context. With its lucid discussion of the various controversial aspects of Thomas, and treatment of the various different scholarly views, this is a foundational work of reference for scholars not just of apocryphal Gospels, but also for New Testament scholars, Classicists and Patrologists.
