Book Synopsis Modified Nucleosides and Cancer by : G. Nass
Download or read book Modified Nucleosides and Cancer written by G. Nass and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises the lectures presented at the workshop Modified Nuc1eosides and Cancer held from 28 September to 2 October, 1981 in Freiburg, West Germany. The workshop was organized by Gisela Nass and sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. The purpose of the workshop was to cover the varied analytical methods for quantitative and qualitative determination of modified nucleosides and their metabolism including bio synthesis, all in relation to the function of these compounds in the origin and growth of cancer cells. The potential signi ficance of measuring modified nucleosides in body fluids for tumor diagnosis in humans received particular attention. Various fields of research which have previously been segregat ed are thus unified in this volume. Emphasis was also placed on the fact that modified nucleosides are constituents of the genetic material, the desoxyribonucleic> acid, on the one hand, and of the transfer ribonucleic acids on the other hand, with the latter macromolecules participating not only in the translation of genetic information into protein, but also in many regulatory processes in all single- and multi-, cellular organisms including man.
Book Synopsis ADP-Ribose Transfer Reactions by : Myron K. Jacobson
Download or read book ADP-Ribose Transfer Reactions written by Myron K. Jacobson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current interest in NAD (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) in biological systems focuses on its role in ADP-ribose transfer reactions. These appear to be fundamentally involved in the regulation of many physiological processes. The contributions in this monograph thus represent the range of research in the very active investigation of niacin metabolism. The major topics covered are: ??? - Enzymology of ADP-Ribosylation - ADP-Ribosylation and Chromatin Function - Carcinogenesis and Differentiation - NAD Metabolism and Chemotherapy - ADP-Ribosylation and Signal Transduction - Molecular Genetic Approaches to ADP-Ribosylation
Download or read book Food and Cancer written by Trung Nguyen and published by EnCognitive.com. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is book 1 of 5 of the Understand Cancer Series. After reading this series, the reader will understand the cause, prevention, and treatment of cancer based on the best-available science. This book answers the question, “What causes cancer?” It examines the secondary causes of cancer. Is cancer caused by genetics, the environment, or diet? The book provides insight into breast cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and many other types of cancers—all backed by scientific research. The references in this book alone are over 100 pages. This book may be the most authoritative voice on the subject.

Book Synopsis Organ and Species Specificity in Chemical Carcinogenesis by : Robert Langenbach
Download or read book Organ and Species Specificity in Chemical Carcinogenesis written by Robert Langenbach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symposium on Organ and Species Specificity in Chemical Carcinogenesis was held March 1981 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dr. James Miller concluded this Symposium with these remarks: "Without a doubt all of us would agree this has been a very successful symposium in illustrating a very wide range of chemical, stereochemical, biochemical, metabolic, molecular, and biological factors in chemical carcinogenesis. I think it is noteworthy that many of the discussions have dealt with pharmacodynamic, or toxicodynamic, factors that can influence the biological activities of the extremely wide range of structures that we choose to call chemical carcinogens. I sincerely hope that after this symposium everyone here will realize the very great need we have for further information on these agents in the species we profess to be working for, the human species. We badly need an adequate data base on human organs, human tissues, human cells, human subcellular preparations, and human body fluids. I don't think we can rely on extrapolations of data on chemical carcinogenesis from experimental animals to humans, no matter how sophisticated or plausible these extrapolations may seem, until we know far more about chemical carcinogenesis in humans. Now, I'd like to add a somewhat personal note. As many of you know, my wife and I have shared a joint career of some 40 years in this field, and I'd like to emphasize in these closing remarks the factor of youth.
Book Synopsis Environmental Toxicology by : Sigmund F. Zakrzewski
Download or read book Environmental Toxicology written by Sigmund F. Zakrzewski and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2002-04-04 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental principles of environmental toxicology are clearly presented here for university students and professionals in related fields. This book consists of two parts. In the first part basic metabolic, physiological, and pharmacological concepts are used to explain the fate of toxic chemicals in the body, with emphasis on carcinogenesis and mutagenesis. This part also contains a chapter on chemicals disrupting the endocrine system and a chapter on risk assessment and the precautionary principle. The second section deals with specific environmental problems - air pollution, alteration of the earth's atmosphere, water and land pollution, including sections on wetlands, organic agriculture and genetically modified crops. It also deals with health and environmental effects of ionized radiation, and the effect of a rapid population growth on the environmental and human welfare. Chapter on pollution control and regulatory policies are also included.

Download or read book Dibenzanthracenes and Environmental Carcinogenesis written by Walter Karcher and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-10-15 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic survey of the dibenzanthracenes and of their chemical, physiochemical, and biological properties, this book treats the nomenclature, the chemical and physical properties, and the synthesis and preparation of the five principal isomers of the dibenzanthracene series: dibenz (a, h), dibenz (a, c), dibenz (a, j), anthracene, benzo(a)naphthacene, and pentacene. Other chapters are devoted to their occurrence and analysis in the environment, in industrial processes and effluents, and in foodstuffs. T second part addresses their biological activity and reviews the metabolism, cellular interactions, toxicology, mutagenicity, and carcinogenicity of the dibenzanthracenes. The final chapter is devoted to structure-activity relationships in this class of the aromatic compounds.
