Book Synopsis Carbonate Systems During the Olicocene-Miocene Climatic Transition by : Maria Mutti
Download or read book Carbonate Systems During the Olicocene-Miocene Climatic Transition written by Maria Mutti and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-14 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oligocene and Miocene Epochs comprise the most important phases in the Cenozoic global cooling that led from a greenhouse to an icehouse Earth. Recent major advances in the understanding and time-resolution of climate events taking place at this time, as well as the proliferation of studies on Oligocene and Miocene shallow-water/neritic carbonate systems, invite us to re-evaluate the significance of these carbonate systems in the context of changes in climate and Earth surface processes. Carbonate systems, because of a wide dependence on the ecological requirements of organisms producing the sediment, are sensitive recorders of changes in environmental conditions on the Earth surface. The papers included in this Special Publication address the dynamic evolution of carbonate systems deposited during the Oligocene and Miocene in the context on climatic and Earth surfaces processes focusing on climatic trends and controls over deposition; temporal changes in carbonate producers and palaeoecology; carbonate terminology; facies; processes and environmental parameters (including water temperature and production depth profiles); carbonate producers and their spatial and temporal variability; and tectonic controls over architecture. This book is part of the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) Special Publications. The Special Publications from the IAS are a set of thematic volumes edited by specialists on subjects of central interest to sedimentologists. Papers are reviewed and printed to the same high standards as those published in the journal Sedimentology and several of these volumes have become standard works of reference.
Book Synopsis Reefs and Carbonate Platforms in the Pacific and Indian Oceans by : G. F. Camoin
Download or read book Reefs and Carbonate Platforms in the Pacific and Indian Oceans written by G. F. Camoin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IAS Special Publication #27 contains 17 of the papers presented at the IAS International Workshop on Reefs and Carbonate platforms in the Pacific and Indian oceans held in Sydney (July 1995). This is the first book to summarize the current state of knowledge about reefs and carbonate platforms in these oceans, where there is a great diversity of carbonate systems in various tectonic settings. Papers concern both processes operating in reefs and carbonate platforms and case histories (platform and oceanic reef case histories). Case histories range from the Lower Cretaceous to modern reefs and most fossil carbonate platforms concern outcomes from recent ODP legs in the Pacific. The book covers a broad spectrum of disciplines related to carbonate geology: sedimentology, geochemistry, geophysics, reef ecology and modeling. Book Synopsis Microfacies of Carbonate Rocks by : Erik Flügel
Download or read book Microfacies of Carbonate Rocks written by Erik Flügel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 995 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unparelleled reference synthesizes the methods used in microfacies analysis and details the potential of microfacies in evaluating depositional environments and diagenetic history, and, in particular, the application of microfacies data in the study of carbonate hydrocarbon reservoirs and the provenance of archaeological materials. Nearly 230 instructive plates (30 in color) showing thin-section photographs with detailed explanations form a central part of the content. Helpful teaching-learning aids include detailed captions for hundreds of microphotographs, boxed summaries of technical terms, many case studies, guidelines for the determination and evaluation of microfacies criteria, for enclosed CD with 14000 references, self-testing exercises for recognition and characterization skills, and more

Download or read book Evolution of the Mid-Cretaceous Triad written by Karl B. Föllmi and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paleoceanographic conditions which led to the formation of the "mid"-cretaceous triad along the northern Tethys margin are elucidated. In the first part, the evolution of this sequence is traced from the demise of the platform to the return of the detritus dominated deposition. The second part includes a discussion of the reconstructed paleoceanographic and tectonic variables, their possible interaction as well as their influence on sediment properties.
