Book excerpt: Um experimento estabelecido ha 5 anos em um solo Podzolico Vermelho-escuro (PALEUDULT) com sinais visiveis de degradacao pelo mau uso, localizado na EEA/UFRGS-Eldorado do Sul/RS, foi amostrado com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de metodos de preparo de solo (convencional, reduzido e sem preparo) e sistemas de culturas (aveia (Avena strigosa) /milho, aveia+trevo (Trifolium subterraneum) /milho e aveia+trevo/milho+caupi (Vigna unguiculata)) sobre as caracteristicas quimicas do solo, absorcao de nutrientes e rendimento do milho. A associacao dos metodos de preparo que promovem menor revolvimento do solo e dos sistemas de culturas que produzem maiores quantidades de residuos resultou em maiores valores de carbono organico total, capacidade de troca de cations, nitrogenio e outros nutrientes na camada superficial do solo. Os metodos de preparo de solo nao afetaram o rendimento do milho, enquanto que, os sistemas de culturas tiveram efeito sobre o rendimento, principalmente pela maior disponibilidade de nitrogenio nos sistemas com leguminosas. A disponibilidade de nitrogenio afetou tambem a absorcao dos demais nutrientes.

Book excerpt: Algumas caracteristicas quimicas de solo, nutricao e rendimento de milho foram avaliados em um experimento de campo, envolvendo dez sistemas de culturas e dois niveis de adubacao nitrogenada em um solo Podzolico Vermelho-Escuro (PALEUDULT), da EEA/UFRGS. O experimento foi instalado em 1983 e as avaliacoes contidas neste trabalho foram realizadas em 1988/89. Alteracoes significativas em funcao dos sistemas de culturas foram observadas no nitrogenio total e carbono do solo nas camadas 0-2,5 e 2,5-7,5 cm, com reflexos na camada aravel (0-17,5 cm). Alteracoes significativas tambem foram observadas na soma de bases e capacidade de troca de cations (CTC) do solo nas camadas 0-2,5 e 2,5-7,5 cm, com alta cor- relacao entre CTC e teor de carbono. Em relacao ao pousio/ milho, os maiores incrementos foram determinados pelos sistemas milho + guandu, siratro e milho + lablabe. Os sistemas de culturas afetaram significativamente o rendimento de graos de milho, no nivel zero de adubacao nitrogenada, atraves de diferentes capacidades de suprimento de N a esta cultura. Os maiores rendimentos foram observados nos sistema que incluiram leguminosas, destacando-se o siratro, trevo + gorga, milho + guandu e milho + lablabe.
