Book excerpt: Ce travail s'inscrit dans la problematique generale de l'evaluation environnementale des dechets solidifies/stabilises utilises dans les materiaux de travaux publics, par substitution partielle ou totale de certains agregats. Il est consacre a l'etude des mecanismes de liberation des polluants a partir d'un dechet, avant et apres solidification, soumis a l'alteration meteorique, ainsi qu'a l'evaluation de la propagation des relargats. Le choix du dechet s'est porte sur des scories de premiere fusion de plomb et de zinc, et leurs solidification a ete assuree par ajout de liants hydrauliques. Apres une etude preliminaire, realisee sur plusieurs dechets et sous-produits industriels provenant de la region nord-pas de calais, un dechet representatif a ete selectionne et l'etude s'est poursuivie par une phase de caracterisation du dechet choisi, qui a permis d'acquerir un maximum de donnees, tant sur le plan chimique que sur le comportement du dechet brut et du dechet solidifie, avant et apres traitement. Le comportement a la lixiviation de polluants des dechets et dechets solidifies a base de ciment a ete etudie en relation avec differents contextes. Un calcul de speciation a ete aussi realise visant a determiner sous quelles especes aqueuses majeures les elements pb et zn etaient mobilisees. Un site experimental a ete mis en place, afin d'evaluer le comportement environnemental de ces scories solidifiees. Le scenario choisi est un scenario fictif qui correspond a une percolation d'eau a travers des dechets granulaires riches en metaux places en depot. L'utilisation des scories dans les sables-ciments n'est pas envisageable dans un type de structure, ou le contact materiau / pluie est favorise et ou aucune couche impermeabilisante n'est disposee (au contraire d'une structure routiere standard).

Book excerpt: La caractérisation de la combustibilité des déchets solides nécessite la détermination de nombreuses propriétés physico-chimiques (taux de cendres, d'humidité, de matières volatiles). Ces données peuvent être obtenues à l'aide de tests normés relatifs aux combustibles solides. Cependant, ces derniers mettent en oeuvre de faibles quantités de produits (de l'ordre du gramme) d’une granulométrie micronique. Ainsi, ces tests se révèlent difficilement applicables aux déchets solides et leurs mélanges (DIB) en raison de leur grande hétérogénéité en terme de taille, forme ou densité. Un test représentatif de l'incinérabilité des déchets devra prendre en compte des échantillons d'une granulométrie centimétrique et une quantité de l'ordre du kilogramme. De plus, le test devra s'effectuer en continu sous atmosphère contrôlée, avec une température et un temps de séjour ajustables. Une procédure basée sur un pilote de traitement thermique à lit transcodé vibra-fluidisé a été mise en place. La température de traitement est ajustable entre 400 et 10000C. L'écoulement du solide divisé est de type piston. Le temps de séjour peut varier de quelques secondes à plusieurs minutes. Il est indépendant de la nature du solide, taille, forme ou densité. L'atmosphère de traitement est ajustable au choix en condition sur ou sous-stoechiométrique. Un certain nombre de critères ont alors établis : • le taux de réduction de la fraction combustible (conditions oxydantes) . le taux de matières volatiles (conditions pyrolytiques) • la manœuvrabilité à haute température (changement de phase) l'agglutination ou la friabilité des cendres (test de Roga) • la charge polluante libérée Ces tests ont été validés sur des combustibles solides (charbon, bois), puis appliqués sur différents déchets industriels (DIB, farines animales). Cette procédure devrait permettre une classification de l'incinérabilité des déchets et prévoir ainsi les conditions optimales de traitement thermique en terme de température, de temps de séjour et d'atmosphère. Cette procédure sera dénommée test PROCEID : PROCédure d'Evaluation de l' incinérabilité des Déchets.

In fact, this process is very old. In older industries such the food and agricultural, this technique has been extensively used. An example of this is the production of pork sausages and Roquefort cheese. Pharmaceutical industry could make extensive use of SSF in the production of secondary metabolites of many kinds and development in this direction is soon expected.
