Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental of Nuclear Engineering is derived from over 25 years of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on nuclear engineering. The material has been extensively class tested and provides the most comprehensive textbook and reference on the fundamentals of nuclear engineering. It includes a broad range of important areas in the nuclear engineering field; nuclear and atomic theory; nuclear reactor physics, design, control/dynamics, safety and thermal-hydraulics; nuclear fuel engineering; and health physics/radiation protection. It also includes the latest information that is missing in traditional texts, such as space radiation. The aim of the book is to provide a source for upper level undergraduate and graduate students studying nuclear engineering.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Radionuclide Releases from the CANDU Fuel Cycle by : Charlene Victoria Fawcett
Download or read book Analysis of Radionuclide Releases from the CANDU Fuel Cycle written by Charlene Victoria Fawcett and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactor open fuel cycle consists of the following components: uranium mining and milling (Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Ontario), uranium refining, conversion and fuel fabrication (Ontario), nuclear power plant operations and temporary used fuel storage (Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick). In this research, an analysis was made of radionuclide (radioactive particle) releases between the start of operations and the present for each component of the CANDU fuel cycle. Sources of data analyzed included industry reports, conference proceedings, peer-reviewed technical journal articles, government publications and reference texts. Levels of radionuclides released and measured in the environment are identified, findings of health and environment studies of the releases are presented and analyzed and areas of future related research in the CANDU fuel cycle industries and health physics are recommended.

Book excerpt: The construction of nuclear power plants in the United States is stopping, as regulators, reactor manufacturers, and operators sort out a host of technical and institutional problems. This volume summarizes the status of nuclear power, analyzes the obstacles to resumption of construction of nuclear plants, and describes and evaluates the technological alternatives for safer, more economical reactors. Topics covered include: Institutional issues-including regulatory practices at the federal and state levels, the growing trends toward greater competition in the generation of electricity, and nuclear and nonnuclear generation options. Critical evaluation of advanced reactors-covering attributes such as cost, construction time, safety, development status, and fuel cycles. Finally, three alternative federal research and development programs are presented.
