Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am Tex Lang and I walked portions of the Camino Frances in September and October 2018 and again in March and April, 2019. This is an update of my first book Camino de Santiago Journey 2019 which I published in December of 2018. In this updated version I have added more tips and hints plus information relating to Covid-19 and the upcoming Holy Year of 2021.I was like most pilgrims who have not walked The Way in that I knew very little about this big undertaking. Oh sure, I researched like crazy on the web to get information. I shopped for clothing and everything else that might have been on this person's or that person's list. And I made a few mistakes. Now that I have 'been there' I know how I will do it differently in the future. And that information is what I bring to my readers plus many tips I learned on the ground in Spain. The hints I offer in this book are universal but my travel perspective is limited to the Camino Frances. I returned to the Camino in March of 2019 for a few more weeks and learned several more helpful tips.In this book you will learn What to take and what to leave behind. This will help keep what is in your backpack to a minimum. How to manage your money with options for a credit card or prepaid debit card and getting cash when you need it in Spain. Exact examples of clothing I took which worked perfectly for me and what did not, including shoes. I tried out six pair before making a selection and still did not have the right shoes. Next time it will be different. How to select your accommodations and insure there is a place for you at the end of the day. How to save time and money arranging for cell phone service in Spain. Which plan was the best for me and how you can find it. The best apps to have on your smartphone for planning your day to day, keeping track of the weather and even knowing that you are still on the trail!Which guidebooks are best and how to take them with you in your phone saving space and weight in your backpack. What to expect in your day to day Camino experience. This will raise your confidence about your ability to do this! What I learned from my own mistakes and those of others. I did not have a bad experience the first time. Far from it! It was wonderful! But I struggled because of unexpected physical difficulties and had to cut my Camino short. I am 74 years old as of this writing and am a 7-year lung cancer survivor. I have other physical challenges including sciatica, feet issues, hip problems, COPD and emphysema. With this in mind I have included in the book a section for older people considering the Camino and those who have a physical challenge of some sort. You will get the story of how things evolved for me and what steps I am taking to minimize the problems in the future. And, you will get to meet Millie, a 70+ yr. old retired school teacher from Maryland who completed the Camino. I will tell you what I learned from this tiny lady and how she inspired me for my future undertakings.

This book relates these sentiments to the curatorship of the Camino de Santiago that comprises a lattice of European pilgrimage itineraries converging at Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain. The detailed analysis focuses on the management of pilgrimage settings as heritage and tourism linked to the shrine of Saint James and gives particular attention to investment guidelines, land use planning regulations, environmental stewardship, information dissemination and museology.

Friendship takes on new meaning in this true story of Justin and Patrick, born less than two days apart in the same hospital. Best friends their whole lives, they grew up together, went to school together, and were best man in each other’s weddings. When Justin was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease that robbed him of the use of his arms and legs, Patrick was there, helping to feed and care for him in ways he’d never imagined. Determined to live life to the fullest, the friends refused to give into despair or let physical limitations control what was possible for Justin. So when Justin heard about the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile trek through Spain, he wondered aloud to Patrick whether the two of them could ever do it. Patrick’s immediate response was: “I’ll push you.” I’ll Push You is the real-life story of this incredible journey. A travel adventure full of love, humor, and spiritual truth, it exemplifies what every friendship is meant to be and shows what it means to never find yourself alone. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Keep Walking is a modern-day pilgrimage, a spiritual journey, a physical feat. Cathay was in her mid-60s and entering a new phase of life. In phase one she had been single for 29 years. Phase two followed with 33 years of marriage. Now widowed, she was looking for direction for her next 30 years. That's when she felt called to hike the Camino de Santiago, the centuries old 483-mile trail across northern Spain. With trepidation, some fear and a fervent commitment to make the hike as best she could, Cathay traveled alone to Spain and started walking. She kept walking day after day through tears, anger, laughter, sadness and great joy. Every day was a challenge, and she often questioned why she was on the Camino. Why not just go to a nice hotel and think through what to do the next 30 years? Her question was answered when a fellow sojourner said to her, You're here [on the Camino] to learn to fall in love with yourself again. After 37 days she reached her destination. Keep Walking is her story of self-discovery, of transformation, and of renewal, all set in the magical, mystical field of the stars, the Camino de Santiago.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I am about to share here a story about stars that dance. . . . If the very thought of seeing stars dance piques your curiosity at some deep level of your soul, then pay attention to what follows, for the walk to the Field of Stars, to Santiago de Compostela, is a journey that has the power to change lives forever." -- from the introduction "Pilgrimage" is a strange notion to our modern, practical minds. How many of us have walked to a distant holy place in order to draw nearer to God? Yet the pilgrimage experience is growing these days in various parts of the world. Seeking to take stock of his life, Kevin Codd set out in July 2003 on a pilgrimage that would profoundly change his life. To the Field of Stars tells the fascinating story of his unusual spiritual and physical journey on foot across Spain to Santiago de Compostela, the traditional burial place of the apostle James the Greater. Each brief chapter chronicling Codd's thirty-five-day trek is dedicated to one or two days on the road. Codd shares tales of other pilgrims, his own changes of perspective, and his challenges and triumphs along the way -- all told with a disarming candor. Seen through the eyes of a Catholic priest who honors the religious worldview that originally gave rise to these medieval odysseys, "pilgrimage" comes to life and takes on new meaning in these pages.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I'd never done anything crazy like this before - a pilgrimage walk. I was not a hiker, and I wasn't a Catholic. In fact, I wasn't even sure I was a Christian. On the last government census when I had to state my religion, I'd said I was a Buddhist, mainly because they've had such a hard time in Tibet and I felt they needed my statistical support. I was also not an adventure traveller. For me, adventure travel was flying coach. All this backpacking and wearing of heavy boots and flying off to France to walk ancient pilgrimage routes was a new experience, and not one that made me feel entirely comfortable." And so Bill Bennett, an Australian based film director, set off on an 800 kilometre walk across Spain to Santiago de Compostela, not sure why he was doing it, and not feeling entirely comfortable. His discomfort increased markedly a few days later when his knee gave out - so the rest of the walk was a "pain management pilgrimage." But he kept his sense of humour, and his memoir is at times hilarious but also deeply moving, and insightful. In the vein of Bill Bryson and Eric Newby, The Way, My Way takes you on a unique spiritual journey, and gives you a hearty laugh along the way.
