En el capítulo cuarto se recogen las bases de los procesos usuales de tratamiento y depuración industrial de aguas, reseñando primero los principios fisicoquímicos y microbiológicos de los procesos unitarios aplicados, y después sutraslado a la práctica a escala industrial. El quinto capítulo realiza una exposición actualizada de las normativas sectoriales más relevantes (españolas yaún europeas) de obligado cumplimiento para aguas naturales, de consumo humano, residuales, regeneradas y aguas de piscinas, resaltando sus puntos más relevantes. El capítulo sexto presenta una aproximación a la problemática de los contaminantes emergentes, verdadera fuente de preocupación en el mundo actual, seguido de un capítulo séptimo recopilando las técnicas aplicables en control fisicoquímico, microbiológico, virológico y radiológico de aguas, con especialatención a las consideradas como métodos de referencia.
