Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a clear and easy-to-understand introduction to higher mathematics with numerous examples. The author shows how to solve typical problems in a recipe-like manner and divides the material into short, easily digestible learning units. Have you ever cooked a 3-course meal based on a recipe? That generally works quite well, even if you are not a great cook. What does this have to do with mathematics? Well, you can solve a lot of math problems recipe-wise: Need to solve a Riccati's differential equation or the singular value decomposition of a matrix? Look it up in this book, you'll find a recipe for it here. Recipes are available for problems from the · Calculus in one and more variables, · linear algebra, · Vector Analysis, · Theory on differential equations, ordinary and partial, · Theory of integral transformations, · Function theory. Other features of this book include: · The division of Higher Mathematics into approximately 100 chapters of roughly equal length. Each chapter covers approximately the material of a 90-minute lecture. · Many tasks, the solutions to which can be found in the accompanying workbook. · Many problems in higher mathematics can be solved with computers. We always indicate how it works with MATLAB®. For the present 3rd edition, the book has been completely revised and supplemented by a section on the solution of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations, by the topic of residue estimates for Taylor expansions and by the characteristic method for partial differential equations of the 1st order, as well as by several additional problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is rich with real-life data sets, uses RStudio to streamline computations, builds "big picture" conceptual understandings, and applies them in diverse settings. Mathematical Modeling and Applied Calculus will develop the insights and skills needed to describe and model many different aspects of our world. This textbook provides an excellent introduction to the process of mathematical modeling, the method of least squares, and both differential and integral calculus, perfectly meeting the needs of today's students. Mathematical Modeling and Applied Calculus provides a modern outline of the ideas of Calculus and is aimed at those who do not intend to enter the traditional calculus sequence. Topics that are not traditionally taught in a one-semester Calculus course, such as dimensional analysis and the method of least squares, are woven together with the ideas of mathematical modeling and the ideas of calculus to provide a rich experience and a large toolbox of mathematical techniques for future studies. Additionally, multivariable functions are interspersed throughout the text, presented alongside their single-variable counterparts. This text provides a fresh take on these ideas that is ideal for the modern student.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonic Periodontal Debridement: Theory and Technique is the first textbook to focus exclusively on this fundamentally important component of periodontal therapy. George, Donley, and Preshaw provide a comprehensive resource for dental students, dental hygiene and therapy students, and periodontal residents, as well as practicing dental hygienists and dentists who are looking to increase their familiarity and skills with ultrasonic instrumentation. The opening section describes the basic foundational knowledge of periodontal debridement; how it differs from and supersedes scaling and root planing, how it fits with modern concepts of periodontal disease pathogenesis, and includes a comparison of periodontal debridement instrumentation modalities. Section 2 describes ultrasonic technology, the variety of tip designs that are available, and provides practical guidance in appropriate tip selection. Section 3 focuses on the clinical applications of ultrasonic periodontal debridement, including patient assessment, medical and dental considerations, and provides specific guidance in clinical debridement techniques. Included are technique modules for each quadrant as well as case studies using real-world examples of situations likely to be encountered in everyday clinical practice, including ultrasonic instrumentation around dental implants.
