Book Synopsis Numerical Approximation of Exact Controls for Waves by : Sylvain Ervedoza
Download or read book Numerical Approximation of Exact Controls for Waves written by Sylvain Ervedoza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-17 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to fully developing and comparing the two main approaches to the numerical approximation of controls for wave propagation phenomena: the continuous and the discrete. This is accomplished in the abstract functional setting of conservative semigroups. The main results of the work unify, to a large extent, these two approaches, which yield similaralgorithms and convergence rates. The discrete approach, however, gives not only efficient numerical approximations of the continuous controls, but also ensures some partial controllability properties of the finite-dimensional approximated dynamics. Moreover, it has the advantage of leading to iterative approximation processes that converge without a limiting threshold in the number of iterations. Such a threshold, which is hard to compute and estimate in practice, is a drawback of the methods emanating from the continuous approach. To complement this theory, the book provides convergence results for the discrete wave equation when discretized using finite differences and proves the convergence of the discrete wave equation with non-homogeneous Dirichlet conditions. The first book to explore these topics in depth, "On the Numerical Approximations of Controls for Waves" has rich applications to data assimilation problems and will be of interest to researchers who deal with wave approximations.
Book Synopsis Introduction to the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) Method for Electromagnetics by : Stephen Gedney
Download or read book Introduction to the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) Method for Electromagnetics written by Stephen Gedney and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) Method for Electromagnetics provides a comprehensive tutorial of the most widely used method for solving Maxwell's equations -- the Finite Difference Time-Domain Method. This book is an essential guide for students, researchers, and professional engineers who want to gain a fundamental knowledge of the FDTD method. It can accompany an undergraduate or entry-level graduate course or be used for self-study. The book provides all the background required to either research or apply the FDTD method for the solution of Maxwell's equations to practical problems in engineering and science. Introduction to the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) Method for Electromagnetics guides the reader through the foundational theory of the FDTD method starting with the one-dimensional transmission-line problem and then progressing to the solution of Maxwell's equations in three dimensions. It also provides step by step guides to modeling physical sources, lumped-circuit components, absorbing boundary conditions, perfectly matched layer absorbers, and sub-cell structures. Post processing methods such as network parameter extraction and far-field transformations are also detailed. Efficient implementations of the FDTD method in a high level language are also provided. Table of Contents: Introduction / 1D FDTD Modeling of the Transmission Line Equations / Yee Algorithm for Maxwell's Equations / Source Excitations / Absorbing Boundary Conditions / The Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) Absorbing Medium / Subcell Modeling / Post Processing

Book Synopsis Wave and Scattering Methods for Numerical Simulation by : Stefan Bilbao
Download or read book Wave and Scattering Methods for Numerical Simulation written by Stefan Bilbao and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-10-22 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scattering-based numerical methods are increasingly applied to the numerical simulation of distributed time-dependent physical systems. These methods, which possess excellent stability and stability verification properties, have appeared in various guises as the transmission line matrix (TLM) method, multidimensional wave digital (MDWD) filtering and digital waveguide (DWN) methods. This text provides a unified framework for all of these techniques and addresses the question of how they are related to more standard numerical simulation techniques. Covering circuit/scattering models in electromagnetics, transmission line modelling, elastic dynamics, as well as time-varying and nonlinear systems, this book highlights the general applicability of this technique across a variety of disciplines, as well as the inter-relationships between simulation techniques and digital filter design. provides a comprehensive overview of scattering-based numerical integration methods. reviews the basics of classical electrical network theory, wave digital filters, and digital waveguide networks. discusses applications for time-varying and nonlinear systems. includes an extensive bibliography containing over 250 references. Mixing theory and application with numerical simulation results, this book will be suitable for both experts and readers with a limited background in signal processing and numerical techniques.

Book Synopsis Linear and Quasi-linear Equations of Parabolic Type by : Olʹga A. Ladyženskaja
Download or read book Linear and Quasi-linear Equations of Parabolic Type written by Olʹga A. Ladyženskaja and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1988 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equations of parabolic type are encountered in many areas of mathematics and mathematical physics, and those encountered most frequently are linear and quasi-linear parabolic equations of the second order. In this volume, boundary value problems for such equations are studied from two points of view: solvability, unique or otherwise, and the effect of smoothness properties of the functions entering the initial and boundary conditions on the smoothness of the solutions.
