Book Synopsis Three-dimensional Laminar Boundary-layer Analysis of Upwash Patterns and Entrained Vortex Formation on Sharp Cones at Angle of Attack by : John C. Adams (Jr.)
Download or read book Three-dimensional Laminar Boundary-layer Analysis of Upwash Patterns and Entrained Vortex Formation on Sharp Cones at Angle of Attack written by John C. Adams (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Application of three-dimensional inviscid and viscous (laminar boundary layer) analyses for cold wall hypersonic flows over sharp cones at incidence is presented relative to experimental data, showing surface upwash angles and entrained vortex formation leading to crossflow-induced boundary-layer transition. Three-dimensional neutral inviscid stability theory for stationary disturbances is used to calculate the angular orientation of the entrained vortices in the boundary layer while a maximum crossflow Reynolds number concept is applied for correlation of the onset to vortex formation due to crossflow instability.

Book Synopsis Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery by : Naixing Chen
Download or read book Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery written by Naixing Chen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-23 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is now an essential and effective tool used in the design of all types of turbomachine, and this topic constitutes the main theme of this book. With over 50 years of experience in the field of aerodynamics, Professor Naixing Chen has developed a wide range of numerical methods covering almost the entire spectrum of turbomachinery applications. Moreover, he has also made significant contributions to practical experiments and real-life designs. The book focuses on rigorous mathematical derivation of the equations governing flow and detailed descriptions of the numerical methods used to solve the equations. Numerous applications of the methods to different types of turbomachine are given and, in many cases, the numerical results are compared to experimental measurements. These comparisons illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the methods – a useful guide for readers. Lessons for the design of improved blading are also indicated after many applications. Presents real-world perspective to the past, present and future concern in turbomachinery Covers direct and inverse solutions with theoretical and practical aspects Demonstrates huge application background in China Supplementary instructional materials are available on the companion website Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery: Analysis and Design is ideal for senior undergraduates and graduates studying in the fields of mechanics, energy and power, and aerospace engineering; design engineers in the business of manufacturing compressors, steam and gas turbines; and research engineers and scientists working in the areas of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer. Book Synopsis Procedure for Calculating Turbine Blade Temperatures and Comparison of Calculated with Observed Values for Two Stationary Air-cooled Blades by : W. Byron Brown
Download or read book Procedure for Calculating Turbine Blade Temperatures and Comparison of Calculated with Observed Values for Two Stationary Air-cooled Blades written by W. Byron Brown and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Local and average blade temperatures were calculated for two stationary air-cooled turbine blades with 10 tubes and 13 fins forming the internal heat-transfer surfaces. These temperatures were calculated using previously published NACA temperature-distribution equations and the most recent theories for determining heat-transfer coefficients, including for the first time the allowance for effects of variable wall temperature on gas-to-blade heat-transfer coefficients at the leading and trailing sections of turbine blades. Comparison of calculated and experimental blade temperatures, for gas temperatures of 300° and 1000°F, resulted in good agreement.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics by : Bernhard Stoevesandt
Download or read book Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics written by Bernhard Stoevesandt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 1495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides both a comprehensive overview and deep insights on the state-of-the-art methods used in wind turbine aerodynamics, as well as their advantages and limits. The focus of this work is specifically on wind turbines, where the aerodynamics are different from that of other fields due to the turbulent wind fields they face and the resultant differences in structural requirements. It gives a complete picture of research in the field, taking into account the different approaches which are applied. This book would be useful to professionals, academics, researchers and students working in the field.

Book Synopsis Three-Dimensional Flow in the Root Region of Wind Turbine Rotors by : Galih Bangga
Download or read book Three-Dimensional Flow in the Root Region of Wind Turbine Rotors written by Galih Bangga and published by kassel university press GmbH. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the state of the art in the analyses of three-dimensional flow over rotating wind turbine blades. Systematic studies for wind turbine rotors with different sizes were carried out numerically employing three different simulation approaches, namely the Euler, URANS and DDES methods. The main mechanisms of the lift augmentation in the blade inboard region are described in detail. The physical relations between the inviscid and viscous effects are presented and evaluated, emphasizing the influence of the flow curvature on the resulting pressure distributions. Detailed studies concerning the lift augmentation for large wind turbine rotors are considered as thick inboard airfoils characterized by massive separation are desired to stronger contribute to power production. Special attention is given to the analyses of wind turbine loads and flow field that can be helpful for the interpretation of the occurring physical phenomena. The book is aimed at students, researchers, engineers and physicists dealing with wind engineering problems, but also for a wider audience involved in flow computations.
