Book Synopsis The Architecture and Art of Early Hispanic Colorado by :
Download or read book The Architecture and Art of Early Hispanic Colorado written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1974, when it was awarded the Western Heritage Wrangler Award for the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Centre, this remains the only extensive survey of Hispanic building and art on the late Colorado frontier. Because most of the villages where the author found his subjects are now either abandoned to transformed by developers, the book is likely to stand as the only full visual record of what Spanish Americans along the southern border of the state produced. Accompanying the eighty-five full page photographs is a text that briefly outlines the history of pioneer immigration from New Mexico, and described the way adobe buildings were constructed and other artefacts made.

Download or read book Denver's Early Architecture written by James Bretz and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of its relentless reputation as a "cow town," Denver has grown from a dusty prairie burg into a thriving metropolis nestled against the foothills of the great Rocky Mountains. Gold brought the area's first settlers in the 1850s, and mining camps sprouted up along the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River. The first rudimentary structures of canvas, mud, and logs were soon replaced with sturdy buildings made of brick, stone, and wood, in what is now affectionately referred to as "Lodo" or the lower downtown district. City growth worked its way uptown and to the east from this neighborhood of houses, hotels, shops, and commercial buildings, eventually encompassing Capitol Hill. Many well-known people worked and lived in downtown Denver and Capitol Hill, including the infamous Margaret "Molly" Brown of Titanic fame, railroad man David Moffat, merchant prince Charles Boettcher, druggist-turned-entrepreneur Walter Scott Cheesman, and Denver's notorious lovers, Horace Tabor and his wife "Baby Doe."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For centuries, men and women have sought to express beauty in architecture and art. But, it is only recently that neuroscience has helped determine how and why beauty plays such an important role in our lives. Founded on a series of lectures architect Donald H. Ruggles has given over the past ten years, Beauty, Neuroscience and Architecture: Timeless Patterns and Their Impact on Our Well-Being postulates that beauty can and does make a vital difference in our lives, including improving many aspects of our health. In this volume, Ruggles suggests that a new, urgent effort is needed to refocus the direction of architecture and art to include the quality of beauty as a fundamental, overarching theme in two of humanity's most important fields of endeavor--the built and artistic environments."--Provided by the publisher.
Download or read book Connection written by CCY Architects and published by The Monacelli Press, LLC. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Connection is a monograph of ten residences that articulate the office's design process and exploration of creating architectural solutions rooted in natural place. Connection provides insight into how Colorado-based CCY Architects investigates and formulates the connection between people and place. By way of ten recently completed residential projects located throughout the Rocky Mountain region, CCY Architects shares its process and the specific ideas, discoveries, and challenges that emerge with each project. The featured award-winning projects are diverse in scale, location, and intention, including residences in pristine nature, in dense neighborhoods, in an avalanche path, and a house wrapped in music. The interaction among design and place begins with questions. How to conduct an "interview" with the land to discover qualities which contribute to more powerful design solutions? What should a changing habitat live like, feel like, look like? As CCY uncovers the potential elements of each project, they reflect on and respond to the genuine qualities of the land, light, and seasons to devise the building blocks of a meaningful environment. Common to all is a respect for the land and an intention to forge connections.
