This book was released on 2015-05-08 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forestry has long been in a rather favourable position in offering a valuable raw material source in high demand. However, with rapidly changing end-user demands and cost competitiveness within the forest and wood chain as a whole, the industry is needing to adapt. Explaining entrepreneurial action as part of a chain of comprehensive value-added processes leads to a new perception of forest production and wood processing. This book applies the main concepts of modern managerial science to the world of forestry and is the perfect book for students studying forestry and wood processing, as well as entrepreneurs and managers within the sector. Topics are covered from an entrepreneurial perspective and include perspectives from accounting, finance, economics, supply chain management, marketing and strategy.

Book Synopsis Accounting for Sustainability by : Anthony Hopwood
Download or read book Accounting for Sustainability written by Anthony Hopwood and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2010-09-23 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If businesses and other organizations are to meet the many and complex challenges of sustainable development, then they all, both public and private, need to embed sustainability considerations into their decision-making and reporting. However, the translation of this aspiration into effective action is often inhibited by the lack of systems and procedures that take sustainability into account. Accounting for Sustainability: Practical Insights will help organizations to address these issues. The book sets out a number of tools and approaches that have been developed and applied by leading organizations to: - embed sustainability into decision-making, extending beyond an organization's boundaries to take into account suppliers, customers and other stakeholders; - measure and link sustainability and financial performance; - integrate sustainability into 'mainstream' reporting, both to management and external stakeholders. In-depth cases studies from Aviva, BT, the Environment Agency, EDF Energy, HSBC, Novo Nordisk, Sainsbury's and West Sussex County Council show in detail how accounting for sustainability works in practice in a wide range of organizational contexts. Book Synopsis Building a Sustainable and Desirable Economy-in-Society-in-Nature by : Peter Victor
Download or read book Building a Sustainable and Desirable Economy-in-Society-in-Nature written by Peter Victor and published by ANU E Press. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world has changed dramatically. We no longer live in a world relatively empty of humans and their artifacts. We now live in the “Anthropocene,” era in a full world where humans are dramatically altering our ecological life-support system. Our traditional economic concepts and models were developed in an empty world. If we are to create sustainable prosperity, if we seek “improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities,” we are going to need a new vision of the economy and its relationship to the rest of the world that is better adapted to the new conditions we face. We are going to need an economics that respects planetary boundaries, that recognizes the dependence of human well-being on social relations and fairness, and that recognizes that the ultimate goal is real, sustainable human well-being, not merely growth of material consumption. This new economics recognizes that the economy is embedded in a society and culture that are themselves embedded in an ecological life-support system, and that the economy cannot grow forever on this finite planet. In this report, we discuss the need to focus more directly on the goal of sustainable human well-being rather than merely GDP growth. This includes protecting and restoring nature, achieving social and intergenerational fairness (including poverty alleviation), stabilizing population, and recognizing the significant nonmarket contributions to human well-being from natural and social capital. To do this, we need to develop better measures of progress that go well beyond GDP and begin to measure human well-being and its sustainability more directly.
Book Synopsis The Global Forest Products Model by : Joseph Buongiorno
Download or read book The Global Forest Products Model written by Joseph Buongiorno and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2003-02-24 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Forest Products Model (GFPM) book provides a complete introduction to this widely applied computer model. The GFPM is a dynamic economic equilibrium model that is used to predict production, consumption, trade, and prices of 14 major forest products in 180 interacting countries. The book thoroughly documents the methods, data, and computer software of the model, and demonstrates the model's usefulness in addressing international economic and environmental issues. The Global Forest Products Model is written by an international multi-disciplinary team and is ideal for graduate students and professionals in forestry, natural resource economics, and related fields. It explains trends in world forest industries in the simplest terms by explaining the economic theory underlying the model. It describes six applications of the GFPM, three of which were commissioned by the Food Agriculture of the United Nations, the USDA Forest Service, and New Zealand Research. The authors show how to apply the model to real issues such as the effects of the Asian economic crisis on the forest sector, the effects of eliminating tariffs on international trade and production, and the international effects of national environmental policies. They provide complete explanations on how to use the GFPM software, prepare the data, make the forecasts, and summarize the results with tables and graphs. Comprehensive, and rigorous description of the world forestry sector Written by an international multi-disciplinary team Thorough description of data and methods In-depth applications to modern economic and policy issues Detailed documentation of the computer software Suitable for students, researchers, and decision makers
Download or read book Forest Economics written by Daowei Zhang and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forestry cannot be isolated from the forces that drive all economic activity. It involves using land, labour, and capital to produce goods and services from forests, while economics helps in understanding how this can be done in ways that will best meet the needs of people. Therefore, a firm grounding in economics is integral to sound forestry policies and practices. This book, a major revision and expansion of Peter H. Pearse’s 1990 classic, provides this grounding. Updated and enhanced with advanced empirical presentation of materials, it covers the basic economic principles and concepts and their application to modern forest management and policy issues. Forest Economics draws on the strengths of two of the field’s leading practitioners who have more than fifty years of combined experience in teaching forest economics in the United States and Canada. Its comprehensive and systematic analysis of forest issues makes it an indispensable resource for students and practitioners of forest management, natural resource conservation, and environmental studies.

Book Synopsis Government Influences on Eco-Friendly Practices in Business by : Shahbaz, Muhammad
Download or read book Government Influences on Eco-Friendly Practices in Business written by Shahbaz, Muhammad and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-09-27 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through policies, regulations, and incentives, governments can encourage or compel businesses to adopt environmentally friendly practices. For example, regulations may set limits on emissions or mandate the use of renewable energy sources, while incentives like tax breaks, grants, or subsidies can make it financially viable for companies to invest in green technologies. Additionally, government-led public awareness campaigns and collaborations with industries can further drive the shift towards sustainability. By creating a regulatory environment that prioritizes ecological considerations, governments can significantly impact corporate behavior, leading to reduced environmental footprints and the promotion of long-term sustainable development. Government Influences on Eco-Friendly Practices in Business explores the integration of government influence into eco-friendly business practices. It provides a holistic understanding of sustainable business practices by offering insights into various dimensions of sustainability and their implications for businesses. Covering topics such as circular economy, green consumption, and sustainable business practices, this book is an excellent resource for academicians, researchers, graduate and postgraduate students, policymakers, business professionals, government institutions, and more.
Book Synopsis Sustainability in Project Management by : Mr Adri Köhler
Download or read book Sustainability in Project Management written by Mr Adri Köhler and published by Gower Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-09-28 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of sustainability has grown in recognition and importance. The pressure on companies to broaden their reporting and accountability from economic performance for shareholders, to sustainability performance for all stakeholders is leading to a change of mindset in consumer behaviour and corporate policies. How can we develop prosperity without compromising the life and needs of future generations? Sustainability in Project Management explores and identifies the questions surrounding the integration of the concepts of sustainability in projects and project management and provides valuable guidance and insights. Sustainability relates to multiple perspectives, economical, environmental and social, but also to responsibility and accountability and values in terms of ethics, fairness and equality. The authors will inspire project managers to be aware of these considerations, and to apply them to the role they play in projects, not just 'doing things right' but 'doing the right things right'.
Book Synopsis Forest Landscape Restoration by : John Stanturf
Download or read book Forest Landscape Restoration written by John Stanturf and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Restoration ecology, as a scientific discipline, developed from practitioners’ efforts to restore degraded land, with interest also coming from applied ecologists attracted by the potential for restoration projects to apply and/or test developing theories on ecosystem development. Since then, forest landscape restoration (FLR) has emerged as a practical approach to forest restoration particularly in developing countries, where an approach which is both large-scale and focuses on meeting human needs is required. Yet despite increased investigation into both the biological and social aspects of FLR, there has so far been little success in systematically integrating these two complementary strands. Bringing experts in landscape studies, natural resource management and forest restoration, together with those experienced in conflict management, environmental economics and urban studies, this book bridges that gap to define the nature and potential of FLR as a truly multidisciplinary approach to a global environmental problem. The book will provide a valuable reference to graduate students and researchers interested in ecological restoration, forest ecology and management, as well as to professionals in environmental restoration, natural resource management, conservation, and environmental policy.
