Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take a journey from doubt to belief It can be hard to share your faith with others, especially when people can't agree on whether there is even any actual truth. With that in mind, Chad Meister has developed a simple, logical way for you to help others move past relativism to a place where Christian belief makes sense: the Apologetics Pyramid. In Building Belief, Meister leads you up each step of the pyramid, beginning where many find themselves today--doubting if anything is really true. From there, he powerfully builds a case for absolute truth, the existence of God, universal morals and values, the reliability and divine inspiration of the Bible, the resurrection of Christ, and ultimately, the good news that Jesus is the Son of God who offers salvation to the world. "Join Chad Meister in this concise, clear, and compelling book as he builds a persuasive case for the truth of Christianity."--Lee Strobel, author, The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith "An excellent book to lead earnest enquirers from doubt to conviction about the basic truths of the Christian faith."--Norman L. Geisler, dean, Southern Evangelical Seminary and Bible College "Chad Meister is a force to be reckoned with, and this delightful little book is a timely resource to be studied by Christians and given to non-Christians."--J. P. Moreland, distinguished professor of philosophy, Talbot School of Theology; author, Love Your God with All Your Mind "Building Belief is thoughtful, fresh, and full of personal and practical illustrations. Meister strikes just the right balance, providing a model for how apologetics ought to be done."--Paul Copan, Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics, Palm Beach AtlanticUniversity "Meister offers both the tools and the method for making discussions with skeptics more fruitful."--Jay W. Richards, research fellow, Acton Institute; coauthor, The Privileged Planet

Values-based societies require vigilant character development to sustain ethical behavior across public and private life. Building Character: The Values Journal is intended to provide a tool to assist on the journey toward character development. Building Character is rooted in the deliberate execution of four core principles: discipline, practice, challenge yourself, and seek wisdom. Parents, as the guides on this journey, are asked to provide a good example and to leverage smart empowerment, responsibility, and preparation to encourage their children to succeed in discovering their true character. While children are challenged to learn by doing, practice, and challenging themselves on their journey to shape themselves into the type of person they want to be. The method used in the Values Journal is for each individual to explore their own understanding of the thirty-one values included in the journal. As a part of this process, each individual is asked to structure an approach that works with their schedule (i.e., daily, weekly, monthly) to - review Bible references related to each value, - write his own definition of each value, - review the questions and provide relevant answers, and - use the free expression pages to journal his results in a way that helps to personalize his experiences.

Book excerpt: In our 60 years of combined experience with faith-based non-profits we have seen high turnover rates in development staff, a general lack of a driving philosophy/theology of development in most ministries, confusion from boards over their proper role in development, and development staff who are frustrated and burned out by the demands of their work. The common denominator is a lack of a comprehensive, biblically based, fundamentally sound, development strategy. We see at least four main reasons for this situation. First, far too few ministries have a theology of development that serves as a rule and guide for all of their work in raising kingdom resources. The result is that the demands for money, rather than Scripture, dictate the techniques used for fundraising. Second, many organizations set unrealistic goals and expectations for their development team. When they are not reached, the ministry makes a change and tries again. When you add to this a lack of adequate training for new development officers, the turnover rate is understandable. Third, we see a serious lack of integration in development work. Ministries take a shotgun approach, trying all sorts of different ways to reach income goals, but far too seldom take a comprehensive, strategic approach that serves the giving partners not just the organization. Finally, we experience consistent misunderstanding and confusion over the board's role in development work, compounded by an inability by the board to develop metrics for measuring effectiveness and success in raising funds based on kingdom principles. This book addresses these concerns and provide development professionals with a tool that can help them build robust, God-honoring development programs. It is our prayer that this book will help development staff and CEO's set realistic goals based on the time it takes to build a solid program and develop genuine, God-honoring relationships with giving partners. We hope this book will be a first step in training people who are new to the development field. We have included charts, templates and diagrams that we hope will aid in understanding how to build your plan and implement it successfully.

To equip your young people to live their lives in relationship to God and others so that they maximize the opportunity for His blessing? In a day when large numbers of young adults are abandoning the faith altogether and many more are living their lives in accord with the values of the world instead of the Word of God, there is a great need for parents to understand the factors that will enable them to transfer Biblical values to their children. It is important for parents to employ these factors so that their children as young adults will embrace the values they were taught. This book seeks to isolate those factors. Additionally, if our young people are going to live out the values of the Word of God, they must know what those values are. If there is one portion of the Bible that is written specifically for young people, it is Proverbs. Its purpose is to equip them to navigate life in relationship to God and others in accordance with His values so that they maximize the opportunity for His blessing. This book seeks to provide a topical study of Proverbs that can be used by parents to build some of its vital values and skills into the hearts and lives of their children. David denHartog pastored a church in Iowa for five years before moving to Texas where he has pastored the same church for more than three decades. He is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.) and of Phoenix Seminary (D.Min.). He is married to his wife Beth and they have five adult children and an ever growing number of grandchildren.
