Book Synopsis A Roadmap to Reducing Child Poverty by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book A Roadmap to Reducing Child Poverty written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2019-09-16 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The strengths and abilities children develop from infancy through adolescence are crucial for their physical, emotional, and cognitive growth, which in turn help them to achieve success in school and to become responsible, economically self-sufficient, and healthy adults. Capable, responsible, and healthy adults are clearly the foundation of a well-functioning and prosperous society, yet America's future is not as secure as it could be because millions of American children live in families with incomes below the poverty line. A wealth of evidence suggests that a lack of adequate economic resources for families with children compromises these children's ability to grow and achieve adult success, hurting them and the broader society. A Roadmap to Reducing Child Poverty reviews the research on linkages between child poverty and child well-being, and analyzes the poverty-reducing effects of major assistance programs directed at children and families. This report also provides policy and program recommendations for reducing the number of children living in poverty in the United States by half within 10 years.

Book Synopsis The Main Street Economic Recovery Proposal by : Eileen Norcross
Download or read book The Main Street Economic Recovery Proposal written by Eileen Norcross and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a policy paper on the stimulus plan as of December 2008.Fear of a deep recession has led policy makers to propose an unprecedented stimulus package to save the economy, a sort of Main Street economic recovery package that would rely heavily on government-sponsored infrastructure projects to create jobs and stimulate economic activity. The problem is real. The unemployment rate is 6.7 percent and rising: 10.3 million American workers are unemployed, and 2.7 million jobs were lost in the last year alone. If history is any guide, however, the bailout the government proposes won't work.Instead, policy makers should focus on the fundamentals of economic behavior and the incentives faced by individuals, governments, and entrepreneurs. Reducing taxes, insisting on fiscal prudence on the federal level, and encouraging it on the state and local level by cutting, rather than increasing, public spending would do far more to help the economy than any of the proposals currently being discussed in Washington.

Book Synopsis Building Back Better: A Sustainable, Resilient Recovery After COVID-19 by :
Download or read book Building Back Better: A Sustainable, Resilient Recovery After COVID-19 written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis to be durable and resilient, a return to 'business as usual' and environmentally destructive investment patterns and activities must be avoided. Unchecked, global environmental emergencies such as climate change and biodiversity loss could cause social and economic damages far larger than those caused by COVID-19. To avoid this, economic recovery packages should be designed to “build back better”. This means doing more than getting economies and livelihoods quickly back on their feet.
