Book excerpt: Bud on a Roll Book 2 of Kids Safety Squad learning series is about Bud and Bug learning about eyes on the path they travel. If eyes are elsewhere, thats the number one reason why trips and falls happen. It is the simple concept that if you dont see what is in front of your feet, painful things can happen. This is a repeated at-risk action that is uncovered every day during injury investigations across our country. Kids can easily learn this lesson early in their lives and maybe prevent the pain from a fall as they play and have fun. Lets give kids an opportunity to start developing one of the most important safety behaviors, Eyes on Path, and that will give them a head start to an injury-free life. Read a Kids Safety Squad book to one of our young people and share in the discovery of an injury prevention conversation that will make a difference.

Book excerpt: Author Tony Jaksa lives in Northern Minnesota with his wife, Lori, and her dog, Charlie. Besides writing children's books and his job in Worker Safety, he enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing. During his working hours he instructs work teams and students on safe response to the hazards that are inherent to the workplace and works extensively on safety program development, procedural updates and worksite Compliance. Currently, Tony is working across the country as the Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO), on large rehabilitation construction projects in the Hydropower Industry. During his off-work hours, he and his wife spend time developing their mission and hobby, writing children's picture books on Kids' Safety. Through this effort, they hope to find a path to early childhood injury-prevention learning and to help build the next ready-to-work safety generation. MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to teach kids what it means when we, adults, say, "Be Careful." We all say it to our kids, but think of what it means to them. Our goal is, through a Picture-Book Series and "The Kids' Safety Squad" website, to teach kids what hazards are around them in their daily lives, how to recognize these dangers and how to avoid them, and in turn to learn what it means to "Be Careful." Stay Safe, Pops, Bug and Bud Personal note: I have concluded that it's near-criminal to know what we know about injury prevention in the adult safety world, and not share that info with our kids. We are tired of what some folks say when kids get hurt - "Ah, kids will be kids," "He's a boy," - "They have to learn." What we need to want to stop is the pain and tears of the little people in our lives. Any questions or comments, please visit our Website "Kids'SafetySquad.club."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bud Anderson is a flyers flyer. The Californians enduring love of flying began in the 1920s with the planes that flew over his fathers farm. In January 1942, he entered the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Program. Later after he received his wings and flew P-39s, he was chosen as one of the original flight leaders of the new 357th Fighter Group. Equipped with the new and deadly P-51 Mustang, the group shot down five enemy aircraft for each one it lost while escorting bombers to targets deep inside Germany. But the price was high. Half of its pilots were killed or imprisoned, including some of Buds closest friends. In February 1944, Bud Anderson, entered the uncertain, exhilarating, and deadly world of aerial combat. He flew two tours of combat against the Luftwaffe in less than a year. In battles sometimes involving hundreds of airplanes, he ranked among the groups leading aces with 16 aerial victories. He flew 116 missions in his old crow without ever being hit by enemy aircraft or turning back for any reason, despite one life or death confrontation after another. His friend Chuck Yeager, who flew with Anderson in the 357th, says, In an airplane, the guy was a mongoosethe best fighter pilot I ever saw. Buds years as a test pilot were at least as risky. In one bizarre experiment, he repeatedly linked up in midair with a B-29 bomber, wingtip to wingtip. In other tests, he flew a jet fighter that was launched and retrieved from a giant B-36 bomber. As in combat, he lost many friends flying tests such as these. Bud commanded a squadron of F-86 jet fighters in postwar Korea, and a wing of F-105s on Okinawa during the mid-1960s. In 1970 at age 48, he flew combat strikes as a wing commander against communist supply lines. To Fly and Fight is about flying, plain and simple: the joys and dangers and the very special skills it demands. Touching, thoughtful, and dead honest, it is the story of a boy who grew up living his dream.

Book excerpt: Purplynd is a love story wrapped in a mystery—an infant is left at a daycare on the edge of the capital city, and the struggle between utopian dreams and dystopian realities grow with the child, until one battle determines which is the most powerful. Here is how one reader describes it: Purplynd is so much more than a bunch of great words strung together by a master writer. It is a magic carpet ride to the edges of the imagination, the universe, and one’s moral fabric. It is a vehicle for an adventure of the mind and spirit. It’s not just a great read; it’s a fast ride. It took me to places beyond my imagination, showed me red places in my soul, and challenged what I had settled on as my integrity—all while on a beautiful purple voyage. It is a magical, wonderful, inspiring political and theological journey.

So now that the squares at long last seem ready to rethink pot's place in polite society, how, exactly, can members of this vibrant, innovative, life-affirming culture proudly and properly emerge from the underground—without forgetting our roots, or losing our cool? In How to Smoke Pot (Properly), VICE weed columnist and former High Times editor David Bienenstock charts the course for this bold, new, post-prohibition world. With plenty of stops along the way for "pro tips" from friends in high places, including cannabis celebrities and thought leaders of the marijuana movement, readers will learn everything from the basics of blazing, to how Mary Jane makes humans more creative and collaborative, nurtures empathy, catalyzes epiphanies, enhances life's pleasures, promotes meaningful social bonds, facilitates cross-cultural understanding, and offers a far safer alternative to both alcohol and many pharmaceutical drugs. You'll follow the herb's natural lifecycle from farm to pipe, explore cannabis customs, culture and travel, and discover how to best utilize and appreciate a plant that's at once a lifesaving medicine, an incredibly nutritious food, an amazingly useful industrial crop, and a truly renewable energy source. You'll even get funny and informative answers to burning questions ranging from: How can I land a legal pot job? to Should I eat a weed cookie before boarding the plane? In two-color, with charts and illustrations throughout, How to Smoke Pot (Properly) is truly a modern guide to this most revered herb.
