Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From only a few feet away, my attacker fired her large caliber handgun directly at me. Round after round struck my body as I began praying even more fervently than I already had been. She had broken into my home and laid in wait for Glenn and me to return home from a family outing. She had already delivered two rounds into Glenn downstairs before rushing upstairs to kill me. But as I prayed, God's strength welled-up inside me and I walked away from her as she yelled at me to stop. I grabbed the phone and called 911. Turning to see where she was, I saw her look in my direction...but not at me. She saw something behind me. The look on her face suggested she saw a manifestation of a mighty angel that God had sent to protect me. She retreated from the room and returned downstairs to kill Glenn with one final shot before ending her own life. I was safe, but my battle was just beginning. As the wife of a 32-year Alaska State Trooper, and the mother of four children, I had always served our household in a support role during Glenn's long and illustrious career. But his position and frequent travels exposed this small-town boy to temptations greater than he could resist. Soon infidelity plagued our relationship for many years, culminating in that fateful August morning. This survival story is not a testament to anything other than God's goodness and faithfulness. Through my own suffering God can speak to others who have experienced physical or psychological trauma. I pray that this story brings you comfort and draws you closer to our Father, who loves you and has plans to prosper your soul.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kane County, with its 4105 square miles, lies along the south-central margin of Utah and is found in the western part of the Colorado Plateaus physiographic province. It is famous for scenic beauty displayed in its colorful rock formations and other geologic features such as faults, folds, arches, monoclines, joints, cross beds, cliffs, lava fields, and canyons. Kane County contains parts of Bryce and Zion National Parks, the Glen Canyon Recreation Area, and it is home to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes and Kodachrome Basin State Parks. The county area has had an interesting geologic history and important fossil finds have added much to our knowledge of world geology. The total value of the mineral production of Kane County, Utah through 1985 is estimated at $21,854,000, of which more than 95 percent is attributed to construction materials, mined or quarried to build and maintain highways. Sand and gravel, crushed stone, coal, gemstones, pumice and volcanic ash, manganese ore, gold, uranium, silver, copper and lead were or have been produced, with the most important current commodities being construction and gem materials. The annual rate of production of these items is erratic, but the value averages a few hundred thousand dollars annually. The production of the construction materials is dependent on the schedules of the Utah Department of Transportation and other road building agencies. Gem materials are mined intermittently to supply the tourist trade. Currently, there are no large, regularly producing mining operations in the county. Other mineral deposits reported in Kane County include titanium and zirconium, gypsum and anhydrite, limestone and dolomite, clay, and vanadium. About 29 tests for petroleum have thus far been drilled without significant success. However, many had interesting shows of oil and gas and the potential for discovery remains high. 192 pages + 10 plates

Book excerpt: Broken Pieces is an award winning book about relationships, a study of women, and a book with heart. Vastly different in tone from her previous essay collections A Walk In The Snark and The Mancode: Exposed, Broken Pieces is a collection of pieces inspired by life: love, loss, abuse, trust, grief, and ultimately, love again. While still non-fiction, best-selling Broken Pieces is not humor at all. In Thompson's most intensive work to date, she opens her soul and invites the reader in for a visit. Thompson goes into those long buried rooms we lock up deep inside and shares a bit of her soul. Broken Pieces is vulnerable, raw honesty, and no-holds barred. Not easy subjects -- love, loss, sexual abuse, date rape, grief -- but real ones, told in pieces (thus the title).Poetry, prose, and essays to let you into one woman's life -- a searingly raw examination of topics most people avoid
